The Crane Resort receives a spectrum of feedback from its guests. While the scenic beachfront location near the airport is widely appreciated, some travelers caution about the resort's remoteness and cleanliness concerns. The hotel's value is often criticized due to perceived overpricing and additional charges. Although the rooms are acknowledged for their space and views, guests report mixed experiences regarding maintenance and cleanliness. The resort boasts a vibrant atmosphere with live music, yet for some, this detracts from the tranquility. Service reviews are polarized, recognizing both friendly staff and frustrating service delays. Amenities like pools and green spaces are celebrated, though room equipment issues are noted.

This was my 10th visit to The Crane, and I still love it!
I came for my friend`s birthday and we stayed in building 4 ground floor room with a private pool. This building has received some upgrades ie new kitchen and equipment, new patio windows and new showers. These rooms are huge and equipped with 2 bathrooms, huge bedroom, dining table and a sofa that converts to a very comfy double bed.
The beach, as per usual was immaculate with new comfy sunlounges and a new beach bar at the back which held barbecue evenings with some excellent entertainment such as incredible fire eaters and a dj playing disco classics. A great new addition. Love jumping these waves, I spend hours in the turquoise water, lots of fun. You may want to check that your bikini bottoms are still in place!
The grocery store has a varied selection of foods, a cafe serving delicious cakes and several excellent restaurants on site. In addition there are local crafts people selling their wares and they make some amazing products, its worth taking the time to have a look, I bought several jewellery pieces from a lady called Silver, great value and so unique.
The staff are very helpful and friendly, with a big shout out to Cheryl Weekes on the front desk, who went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional.
The Crane is in a quiet spot, so if you want to relax, this the perfect place in the perfect location, however taxis are plentiful should you want to explore or go to the West Coast.
I can`t wait to return next year.

This was our second stay at The Crane and it was wonderful. You can't beat the setting and the staff are the friendliest. We had a plunge pool room that was stunning with a gorgeous view. We only left the resort once in the week we were there ..no reason to.

My girlfriend & I have recently returned from The Crane and our experience was excellent. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel welcome with a complimentary drink on arrival, and remained on hand during our stay.

Our suite was incredibly spacious, elegantly furnished and featured a private balcony & roof terrace with stunning ocean views. The bed was really comfortable and the attention to detail was 10/10. My only suggestion would be to introduce light switches closer to the bed for convenience (so you don’t have to get up to turn the lights off) and adjustable speed settings for the bedroom ceiling fan. Also more clothes hangers for the wardrobes are needed.

The beach is a Caribbean gem, with white sand, crystal clear water and plenty of sunbeds. The sea on this side of the island tends to be quite rough though, and during our visit, swimming wasn’t possible.

The adult pool perfectly blends modern luxury with ‘old money’ aesthetic. It’s placed high-up, overlooking the ocean with stunning views, and the poolside bar made it an even more enjoyable experience.

Worth noting, The Crane is fairly secluded - away from the busier south and west coasts of the island. We hired a car, so this wasn’t an issue, although key destinations for us were typically a 30-40 minutes drive away.

During our stay we had breakfast twice at L’Aure. The buffet was nice, though at 50 USD per person, it was overpriced in my view. Tip - on our second visit, we ordered from the à la carte menu which was a much better option, with generous portions and a wide selection with much better value.

While the resort itself is undeniably beautiful, we did feel that the restaurants & hospitality lacked a bit of charisma. L’Azure, for example, has the potential to be a world class restaurant with stunning views over Crane beach, but the ambience felt a bit dated and uninspired. Similarly, our dinner at D’Onofrio’s Trattoria on our first night was pleasant and the service was good, but the food itself was average.

We also stopped by The Grove (daytime beach restaurant) twice. The first time was perfect, but on our second visit, although its advertised opening hours were 11:00 - 16:30, when we arrived at 15:00 there were no staff in sight. After waiting for about 10 minutes without being acknowledged, we left which was disappointing.

It would be great to see the resort invest in improving its dining experiences to match the standard of some of the islands flagship restaurants. Also perhaps somewhere more elegant for drinks, as the only bar ‘1884’ has a very ‘pub’ vibe.

Critique aside, we had a fantastic stay and would like to thank the staff for their hospitality. We’d definitely recommend The Crane to those looking for a peaceful and picturesque retreat; we will definitely be returning.

The Crane Resort
September 2024

The Crane Resort over-achieves in every facet of serving its guests. From the views, to the staff, to the rooms, to the shopping, to the many available pools, the resort is first-rate. Crane Beach was immaculate – a real challenge when hosting tourists who might not be tidy with their trash, and when sargassum is a problem throughout the Caribbean. Because The Crane sits high on a cliff with spectacular views, there is a handy elevator to take you down to the beach itself. The suite was spacious and comfortable, and with a kitchen, laundry area, and three bathrooms, it met all of our vacation needs.

During our stay, the concierge, Erika, provided us with exceptional service. We had an unusual request regarding non-emergency medical care. She suggested a convenient care that was open on Sunday and a pharmacy close to the resort. Another day we had a tour cancelled, and she made one phone call to get us on a sunset cruise for later that day. Erika is amazing and greatly enhanced our experience. She brings significant value to The Crane Resort. We were delightfully surprised when the hotel staff called the first full day to make sure everything was to our liking and to ask if there was anything we needed. The entire staff was warm and welcoming, and we found this to be true everywhere we went on Barbados.

The housekeeping staff happily accommodated our schedule. If they came by to clean, and we explained we would be gone in two hours, the room was spotless upon our return.

On the grounds of The Crane there are shops, restaurants, and a grocery store. The shops offer a variety of goods from diamonds to refrigerator magnets. The grocery store carries the essentials for whatever you might want to snack on in your room, and they will happily deliver an online grocery order to you. The Crane has several restaurants and poolside dining; we only ate at one place on the grounds.

D’Onofrio’s offers Italian food with gluten free options. We dined here a couple of times during the week because they offered these options. The first time we ate here, we sat outside enjoying the ocean breeze and feasting on high quality pasta and fish. Later in the week after an excursion, we got take-out pizzas to eat in our room. Normally, we’re not big eaters, but we finished both pizzas; they were so good!

We highly recommend The Crane Resort! Five stars!

For those who like the facilities of a resort in a quiet location The Crane is a fantastic choice.
The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, and the large resort has everything you need in one place.
The facilities are showing their years in some ways - a broken towel rail and missing drawer handles in our room for example - but nothing that has an actual impact on enjoyment.
The various pools are well maintained, with plenty of sun loungers and towels provided. It is a real luxury to have so many to choose from. One is adults only.
Crane Beach is spectacular. The soft pinkish sand is like walking on heaven, and the colour of the sea is phenomenal. As is Mother Nature's wish, sometimes seaweed comes in vast ribbons. Staff do a marvellous job of shovelling it out of the way, but during our stay it became too much to keep on top of. The buildup of weed may put some off, but if you want a quiet place to relax and listen to the waves crashing then this it is still ideal.
Our room was adequately sized, with comfortable furniture, a jacuzzi bath, and a kettle, coffee machine and fridge. The balcony had a view to the sea and the back of the Village.
The Village is another great feature of the resort. There's a small grocery store, duty free, clothing, jewellery, coffee shop, gym and kids club. The coconut pie at the coffee shop is delicious, and the gym is really well equipped.
L'Azure restaurant is where breakfast is served, which is an excellent buffet spread, but I wouldn't recommend it for evening meals as it is overpriced for what it is. The Zen restaurant has good food, but when we visited service was very poor. The Carriage House by the top pool is ideal for a sandwich at lunchtime. 1887 is the pub, with lovely cocktails and some yummy bar snacks. D'Onofrio's the Italian is the best restaurant on site, offering better value for money than L'Azure and better service than Zen.
Overall, a lovely place but the remote location won't suit everyone. We used the buses (the stop is just outside the entrance) to get around which were convenient, cheap, safe and fun.

I enjoyed my trip to The Crane, but I probably wouldn't call it one of the best resorts I've ever been to. The grounds were gorgeous, and the room was lovely. We upgraded to a room with a private pool which was definitely worth it! My only complaints about the room were the amount of wires around the private pool and the water looked a little cloudy. I was lucky our AC worked! I found the staff to be fairly unfriendly. I was rarely greeted with a smile by waiters and hosts at restaurants. It seemed like most of the employees did not want to be there. The housekeeping staff was wonderful though! Our room was spotless everyday and when we asked for more towels they gave us two bags full. One of the three cliff pools was closed, which would have been nice to know in advanced but no big deal. The two cliff pools of the complex that were open had very cloudy water. People were playing music from a speaker one day which made it difficult to relax. There were also wires in the pool which made me anxious. They did have water out everyday for guests which was a nice touch, and on some days there was poolside service! My main complaint is when I returned home and found a charge on my credit card that I did not make. I contacted the hotel and they said there was nothing about the charge in any of their systems, so I'm still confused how I got charged to begin with. I was told that a manager emailed me about the issue twice, but am yet to receive an email. I'm hoping they will be able to resolve this issue and I won't be stuck paying for a charge I did not make at the hotel. Overall, I would consider going back to The Crane but probably wouldn't pick it over other hotels.

Had an amazing staycation at the Crane! The scenery, people and food are all amazing. Be prepared to be transported into a complete oasis while there.

The prices on site are reasonable and they do a fair bit to provide activities for you to enjoy outside of the standard offerings (i.e. spa, pool, beach, fitness room). They even hosted a manager's cocktail party for guest where we were served drinks and appetizers while listening to a live performance.

The beach in that area can be tricky so it's better suited for strong swimmers. Alternatively they have great pools and one is even in a designated quiet area.

My only criticism/advice would be to NOT stay in an adjoining room (i.e. 941B). I woke up each morning to the gentleman staying in 941 yelling at his wife to get ready or taking various businesses calls. Gratefully, only my mornings were disturbed but I can see how staying in that room could truly prove problematic if you didn't know the people in the adjoining unit.

Nevertheless, I would definitely go back!

Ohhh where to start. thats an expensive hotel and you would expect a the bare minimum..which is the standard , but this hotel doesn’t have any.
we arrived, booked 4 months ago and our room was not available because they overbooked so we had to wait and take another room that was available for the night ..the next day we where given our room and what a nightmare. Water had no pressure at all.Nothing in this hotel worked actually, kitchen barely had wtv the minimum a kitchen should have to be able to cook, example 3 forks 4 spoons 2 plates etc …so if your a family that’s more than 4, don’t count on having what you need and when you call to ask for more you get them within the following days if your lucky or you just don’t get anything and just keep getting apologies … we asked to have someone clean our kitchen and were told 3 times on different days someone will be there and we end up cleaning ourselves every time …customer service is good at saying we’ll send someone shortly and we apologize but nothinggggg actually gets done. And im talking the basic things like sheets for the bed were missing ;it took 3 days to get and had to sleep with wtv flimsy sheet they had in the room as spares ..Toaster was not working (and 48h to get a new one (while being told ok shortly with you) we need a card to access our pool but our card wasn’t working and it’s been 3 days we keep asking for the the key card to be changed to be able to go to the pool . Still nothing ..Internet is on/off. One thing that is actually nice is the scenery and that’s it , but I didn’t come just to see flowers and trees… Anyways that’s a nightmare vacation. No nightlife at all after 7, no activities going on during the day or at night it’s like a ghost town when you walk at night seems like everyone is asleep..nothing to keep the kids entertained ..this seems like a retreat resort .i don’t see how this hotel is rated more then 2-3 stars at best.. don’t spend money here go somewhere else And save the headeach from this hotel.

We booked this resort through British Airways and had heard great things. Located conveniently only 10 mins from the airport (the hotel will organise your airport transfer for you). We got a ‘basic’ room but it was far from this with a balcony, kitchen, huge jacuzzi bath tub and 4 poster bed. The service throughout was impeccable especially Karen on reception. Breakfast was included and the breakfast buffet was great - especially the freshly made omelettes and pepper sauce. Drinks were reasonably priced at all onsite vendors. There was a convenience store and atm on site too which proved v useful. There were daily activities (but we didn’t do any of these) and night time music entertainment around the bar which was good. An adults only pool was a great addition, especially as we came (with no kids) over UK half term. The private beach for residents was also lovely - nice and breezy albeit the sea a little rougher than you would get on the west coast - still gorgeous and swimmable! There is a bus stop right outside the hotel with cheap buses to the west coast (that take around 45-50mins). We ended up hiring a car though - the crane is located on the lovely south coast but most of the nicer restaurants and turtle swimming locations are on the west coast. The drive from here was great though and a good way to explore the island and get to know it a little more. Parking was safe and secure on site for our vehicle.

I haven’t written a review for sometime but feel compelled to do so on this occasion, with the small hope of things surely can improve, in any organisation There are strong staff members and poor staff members , what you can’t have is when the poor outweigh the strong which is clearly the case within the crane, yes there are some really good stuff members but they are dragged down by too many really poor ones, some in particular quite passive aggressive.

Let’s start with the air-conditioning in the room ,yes it is slightly improved but for this you dare not open the windows or even open the blind to leave any sun in ,as the air-conditioning is so poor it takes so long ,to get down to a stickable temperature, take into account that you’ve paid for a Seaview ,that you dare not enjoy. Oh yes, I forgot they had they charge you for the air-conditioning as well.

I have to share with you my experience at the carriage house, when I initially stood at the pedestal to await to be shown to a table for 10 minutes, then one hour later I was told the food would be eight more minutes, over 20 minutes later the food had still not appeared , so after 90 minutes from entering the carriage house me and my family eventually gave up, no it was not super busy and no it was not understaffed in reality. It was quite pathetic, sorry for my honesty.

To round off my day my family and I visited bar 1887 this evening and sat at the table right by the entrance near the singing duo and witnessed 4 to 5 staff members just stood by the bar for 10-15 minutes and not one of them approached us to take a drink order , not only is this terrible customer service but also terrible business as this lost profit would surely help the crane to improve, we eventually after not being approached just got up and have not come back to a room, I hope that someone of a authority and influence within the crane could not just answer this with the standard answer but actually implement actions to improve things please , I really mean this as I’ve been coming to the crane for over 16 years

Response from Crane Barbados, Other at The Crane Resort
Responded Dec 19, 2024
Dear michaelgriffiths, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I sincerely apologise for the challenges you faced during your recent stay. Your feedback is invaluable, and we genuinely appreciate your continued loyalty to The Crane over the years. Regarding the air conditioning, we’ve been working on enhancing the cooling systems across the resort, with recent upgrades completed just a few days ago and already yielding better results. As outlined in your Ownership Agreement, air conditioning is not included in your Annual Fees, as it is not commonly used by all owners. Many of our owners in fact prefer the naturally cool trade winds, so this charge is based on individual usage only. Please note that this charge is not applicable to hotel guests. I’m sorry to hear about your experience at The Carriage House and Bar 1887. This is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide. We’ve recently bolstered our food and beverage team with a new senior leadership and training, and we’re committed to improving service delivery. Your feedback will be instrumental as we make those changes. Please be assured that we are continuously making improvements, and your input helps us stay focused on areas that need attention even as we work to elevate our service offering overall. When we next welcome you back to your Barbados home, I look forward to providing you with a more seamless and enjoyable stay. Warmest regards, Faye Best Group Director of Operations
