Not your run of the mill beach hotel - more like a New England motel. Yes the bedroom was small, but it had everything you needed, comfortable bed, kettle/drinks, sitting area, books etc and fab toiletries in the bathroom. Afternoon tea and cakes, followed by a walk in the beach. We dined in the restaurant, plenty of choice, and good... More

We had a lovely stay at the Gallivant, and could not fault the wonderful friendly staff. It's a very relaxed hotel, wonderful location across from the beach, with comfortable rooms and fabulous food. It's certainly a 'grown-ups' place, so I wouldn't advise taking kids with you, but just perfect for a chilled weekend away.

We booked their two night gourmet escape for an anniversary. We had a very warm, friendly welcome on arrival and throughout our stay. We had been upgraded to a Baby Hampton room, a bonus, which was tastefully decorated and had everything you would need for a romantic few days away. The food was interesting and delicious. Just make sure you... More

We had an amazing experience and the staff were incredibly warm and hospitable. The room was immaculately presented and we felt very comfortable. It was great being so close to Camber Sands too. The food was A grade and we'd love to go back sometime soon. Conor & Clare

This was our second stay at the Gallivant and we weren't disappointed. We did the two night weekday stay which was an offer consisting of two nights in a dog friendly room, two breakfasts and two dinners. We took our little Jack Russell with us who was looked after beautifully and was very happy to be left alone with all... More

I can't fault The Gallivant in any way.... from the warm welcome to the beautiful refurbished room. After a long drive and a couple of soothing glasses of wine we had an extremely tasty evening meal. We had to leave early the next day but had a call to check over the bill before any money was taken. As I... More

Just back from a two night stay the hotel room with roll top bath was fantastic and the team allowed our dog to stay for his first beach experience. The hotel grounds and gardens were lovely and we enjoyed breakfast by the fire on both mornings. Nice extras in room like dog treats, beach bags, books games & more importantly... More

Nice location - just over the road from a great long beach with great walks and stunning views. Within easy reach of Rye and Dungeness. Small restaurant but food good. Comfortable room, and friendly service. What is not to like!

In general a Great Visit to the gallivant recently. Lovely welcome from friendly staff showed us to our room. Room was nice with seaside theme little on the small side but not an issue, bed was small and soft mattress (standard double I think, I'm used to a super king at home,I'm a 6,2" so maybe unfair assessment) this was... The choice of menu was very good. The presentation and quality of the lunch was excellent. The service was a little bit slow, but very efficient. It was good value for money. There were some strange additions......fur skins covering some of the chairs. I wasn't keen on the look of them....very Nordic! I would recommend this restaurant.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Welcome to our coastal restaurant with rooms, across the road from the dunes of Camber Sands and beautiful sandy beach beyond. Inspired by the coastal motels you might find in California, we're a calm and relaxing hideaway from the stresses and strains of modern life. We have 20 amazing bedrooms all decorated with an eye to the Hamptons and serve great food using almost exclusively locally sourced fresh ingredients. In 2016 we were included in The Times 'Coolest Beach Hotels - No. 4', The Mirror's 'Top 10 Seaside Hotels in the UK' and Squaremeal's 'UK's Best 100 Restaurants'. The private coastal garden incorporates mini secluded decks behind all the Garden and Luxury Garden rooms and is also home to The Beach Hut, where guests can enjoy relaxing massages and lovely facials after a day on the beach using ethical and natural health and beauty products that are exclusively blended in the UK. ... more   less
