We really enjoyed our stay here. Our host, Julien, was kind and pleasant and helpful - he even let us check out late as we needed time to rebook our flight that our airline had canceled when we woke up. We appreciated the history of the house. Standing in the front yard, one can imagine themselves transported back a century or two in rural, agricultural Belgium. Our breakfast was tasty and filling (especially the delicious croissants!). We enjoyed seeing the animals in the yard. I recommend staying here so you can help the owners earn money to continue to preserve and rehabilitate the beautiful building!

Interesting small hotel in a quiet neighbourhood. We were welcomed by the owner's son, a very friendly man who was always willing to help. Due to a misunderstanding he booked 5 rooms instead of 3 rooms for us, he did not make a big deal about it and we only paid 3 rooms. Breakfast is simple but good. If you come by motorbike, you can park your bike in the garden which is fenced. I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

A fabulous place, a time portal into the past. We were travellin by bicycle and had problems with the location as the GPS ref is incorrect. We loved the ambience and historic decor, our splendid bedroom, the furnishings and the sense of being in another age. Our host was exceptional and we had great fun feeding the animals in the garden, a bonus.I would love to return to stay longer. It was a wonderful experience. We felt as if we were part of a special time.

The hotel was beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful. They made you feel like at home.

The room we had was like 40m2, 4 small beds. It was the last room so we had to take it and move the beds closer, which it's no deal deal.

We will come back for sure.

The photos on the net made this hotel seem like a pleasant if remote night stop before Dunkirk, upon arriving all was charming in the late afternoon sun, following a long hard day's drive on the wonderful European "green" roads. We had to telephone to gain admittance, a shy put upon young man welcomed us kindly and gave us a view of the park and gardens, there is some charm here but the land is not sufficient for the animals and feeding croissant to deer felt odd, there were a couple of eccentric Llama that amused me as they were having a tif and the twenty deer seemed well fed, there were very docile peacocks, a remote wallaby and a general air of squalor of the area behind the house, not Chateau!

On entering a faux baronial hall decorated in the worst excesses of provincial, French bad taste. An
air of fetid displeasure was all about due to the acrid smell of many different stale types of urine, cat, duck, peacock etcc. An open window would have helped me from gagging at this point! Our room though large with a serviceable old bathroom was rank with an odour of ill health redolent about the entire property, after running the bath tap for several minutes I still had a brown water bath, after dinner in a pleasant restaurant "la Bonne Auberge" we repaired to this oubliette of an hotel.
Breakfast was fine!
We escaped from this rancid place in one piece but in nearly fifty years of staying in a variety of hotels, good and bad, this ranks as the very worst, I caught an ague at this etape and completely condemn it.
The very worst hotel I've endured.

Set in a semi-rural location just outside of the town of Mariembourg, this is a lovely old building furnished in an appropriate style. The whole place has the feel of a baronial hall. We had a lovely room with an amazing bed and a patio. The staff are great and took us to meet (and feed) the other "residents" - llamas, deer, a wallaby, peacocks, geese and a cat. Just a few minutes drive from the CF3V's depot in Mariembourg

This hotel is given a special mention in it's travel book on Belgium. It is a fabulous place to stay. We enjoyed a two day break here and can't wait to come back!

The family who own it were very welcoming, particularly the daughter, who could not do enough for us. The Chateau is amazing as the owner is a Collector of period pieces suitable for such a grand place. If you are an animal lover you will enjoy the small animal park. If you are a cat lover you will be delighted by the grey tabby called Bondee, who chirrups at you very sweetly.

We stayed on the first floor in 'Marie' room which was huge with an extremely large, comfortable bed. This room overlooked the rose garden. The bathroom was equally large with 'his/her sinks' and a large bath with shower over.

We enjoyed breakfast on both days and ate very cheaply one night where we were served coffee in a beautiful sitting room.

We thoroughly recommend this Chateau.

I travelled and stayed here with my young daughter, the room was old fashioned but large and had everything needed, the staff were all very friendly and the owner especially helpful. We had a great nights sleep, woken only by the sound of birds and breakfast was very traditional but tasty. The owner took us on a short tour of the impressive building and then showed us the animal park within the grounds. My daughter was in her element, we were left amongst all of the llamas, deer and goats on our own to feed them with the food provided and it was an incredible experience - my daughter was absolutely in her element. Worth the stay just for her face alone when the baby goats jumped up to my knee. This hotel choice offers something entirely different and there are not too many places like this left I expect. A real countryside gem....

We had booked in for a night at this Hotel before travelling up to Waterloo. Although we arrived before the stated booking in time we were welcomed and had a beautiful room, spacious and cool. The Hotel is really an old Chateau/farmhouse with gardens and decorated in antiques. No restaurant but plenty of places in Phillipville or nearby Couvin. Nice breakfast in morning. Would stay there again. Great value for price paid.

What a quaint, charming place. The chateau itself is quite spectacular, the rooms were nicely furnished, the gardens were pretty and well-maintained. Staff were polite and very helpful. It was a nice feeling to poke your head out the window of a morning and watch the llamas go about their business. I felt a bit sad for the wallaby though, it really needs a few more friends.

The only major drawback is you really need a car to reach this place. The shuttle service advertised doesn't really exist (though the host was kind enough to give us a lift to Mariembourg station on our departure). It's a 3km hike from Mariembourg station to the Château, and there's a freeway blocking your path. We found that the least dangerous place to cross the freeway was level with Rue du Moulin de Tromcourt, then a short walk through the industrial area. Don't try to cross the freeway at the bridge further north, there is not enough room to walk beside the road.
