We loved this hotel. The gardens are beautiful. Rooms ok, friendly staff, good breakfast. Location in perfect next to the museum and 1 block away from the main plaza and other attractions. If you stay at El Fuerte stay at this hotel

We stopped in El Fuerte to catch the Chepe train to Copper Canyon. Someone had told us this was a nice town and it certainly is - one of the nicest small colonial towns we have found in Mexico in 7 years here (admittedly mostly on the coast). It's a mistake to do Copper Canyon without breaking the journey here...

My husband and I stayed one night at the Hotel Posada de Hidalgo. Well kept gardens and pool, very comfortable room and bathroom, good working a/c and enjoyable Mexican folkloric show before our delicious dinner. Our bedroom had two tiny balconies opening into the street. We could hear the lovely tunes coming from the church bells...twice, @ 10 pm and...

It set the tone of welcome when we were met at reception with a tropical drink after a long train ride on El Chepe. Our rooms were comfortable, the service remained excellent throughout our stay. The location couldn't be better.

Hotel is beautiful, its rooms spacious. Instead of stairs, access to the hotel from the street is up a long stone ramp. Good breakfast. Hotel is near the town’s plaza, so there may be some noise. Helpful staff. Recommended.

A surprisingly good hotel in this area. Lovely staff, very comfortable and clean rooms set in a lovely garden. We ate a memorable meal of Langoustines. We remember our stay fondly after nearly 5 weeks in Mexico. We do remember being woken at 6am with the church bells ringing Jingle Bells LOUDLY. That wouldn't be an issue now though! The views are breathtakingly spectacular! Spend the extra for one of the rooms on the cliff overlooking the canyons. You are steps from a lot of fun things, like the local market and zip lines, and cable cars. Excellent! The food on our package deal was very mediocre and was served buffet style. We talked to the manager and he...

I had the pleasure of staying at this quaint hotel in October on a business trip for Travel agents. Birthplace of Zoro. It's a wonderful hotel with a great bar and outdoor area and pool. They also have entertainment and tons of hummingbirds in the Bar area. The rooms are charming and spacious and up to date with all modern...

We stayed here before and after riding El Chepe to Posada Barrancas and Creel. Nov 26 and 29, 2016. What a beautiful hotel! Spacious inner courtyard, very nice restaurant, bar and tables poolside and attractive, well maintained and clean rooms with large bathroom and shower. Pillows and mattresses very comfortable and quiet at night. The hotel is very near the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Posada del Hidalgo is a beautiful colonial mansion. This attractive structure was built in 1890 by Don Rafael Almada, a wealthy and influential "alcalde" (mayor) who spent five years and 100,000 gold pesos on its construction. The wooden trim was made from 285 Canadian red pine beams. Don Rafael's mansion was the largest and most beautiful in El Fuerte.
