Posada del Hidalgo is a beautiful colonial mansion. This attractive structure was built in 1890 by Don Rafael Almada, a wealthy and influential "alcalde" (mayor) who spent five years and 100,000 gold pesos on its construction. The wooden trim was made from 285 Canadian red pine beams. Don Rafael's mansion was the largest and most beautiful in El Fuerte. It was built just below the old fort, and has four layers of brick and adobe construction. The iron work was brought from Mazatlan.

The Posada del Hidalgo is a gorgeous place with a museum like atmosphere. The courtyards, pools, sitting rooms, gardens are all gorgeous. The room we stayed in was very basic and picked up any and all noise from the courtyard. The shower was a bit wee. The food was okay.

I think of courtyards, flowers and gardens when I remember this hotel. We entered into a tropical garden and were each handed a delicious drink. Later on we found there were multiple other courtyards - one more charming than the next. There were also several public sitting

The only positive thing: food and waitress service. They went out of their way to be helpful. The common areas have a good appearance. The Roms are humid and dark. The sheets and towels are as old as time. They claim to offer wi-fi, it never worked. Could not relax at all in

We stayed and the Posada del Hidalgo prior to taking the El Chepe train to the Copper Canyon. We enjoyed our stay so much that we booked a room for our return as well. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with good amenities. The various areas of the hotel are beautiful and a

As long as you stay there, you can park your vehicle in their very small lot behind the hotel that they lock-up at night. Therefore, your vehicle needs to be very small and compact otherwise, it won't fit! We have a large F150 extended cab pick-up truck, so we rented a small caR so that we could park there and off to The Copper Canyon we went on El Chepe for 6 days! Good luck!

Do you have any rooms that ave 2 beds and that have a walk in type shower? Thanks
Yes to both questions. We stayed in two different rooms. A more expensive and larger room before taking the train and a smaller, less expensive room upon our return. Both had two beds and walk in showers. Please note however it is a fairly steep walk on an incline to go from the street up the reception area-bar-dining room. This is a really nice hotel and I strongly recommend it.
