Detailed Reviews
Amazing gem of a place. This place is great for families or serious fishers as well. The rooms are clean and comfortable and exactly as described.
The hosts are very friendly and take pride in the grounds. We had a 4 year old, 7 year old and 4 adults. The bay is perfect for privacy away from the highway traffic and kept the kids busy for hours chasing frogs while the adults chilled out on the docks, used the hot tub and sauna.
I would recommend at least 3 hours on the pontoon rental. Paul was a great guide and Christine was always around if we needed anything. We hope to stay there again.
Get the canoe at some point and paddle around. It’s first come first serve and guests will take canoes to other lakes so get out early.
The family dogs are super friendly and were a hit with the family.
Great fishing and swimming for kids at the end of the dock.

Well I finally took a vacation so I figured I’d report about it to the internet community. This was my first trip to Canada and my first trip to a resort such as Muskie Bay and I have to say if I could do it again I would in a heartbeat. Canada is a beautiful country; the resort is full of good people with plenty of knowledge on the local fishing and techniques.
Each day started with a freshly cooked breakfast, which included the best hash browns I’ve ever had. We are on the water by 8:30 if not earlier and they take you to the best spots to find the fish you’re looking for. I highly recommend shore lunch, you get a chance to explore an island or shore and you eat your freshly caught fish. After you’re done they take care of all the cleaning duties, not that I have a problem with this part, but they definitely know what they’re doing and you don’t lose any meat. Then another home cooked meal fro dinner, if you get a steak night you’re in for a treat, but the boiled trout was pretty great as well. Also the gumbo, amazing gumbo.
So ladies and gentleman, if you get a chance and you have the finances, which is pretty reasonable at the resort, give Muskie Bay a shot and you could have a freezer full of fish as well.

Room was just okay. Not updated in any way It didn't meet our expectations of the
name. We looked for and found something for less money and more accommodating.
The owners are more interested in their own agenda than yours. The cabins are
old and not updated at all. We love the setting and our families go way back to the
40's but we have moved on looking for price and genuine hospitality.

Response from Paul T, Owner at Muskie Bay Resort
Responded May 25, 2018
I believe you have the wrong Muskie Bay Resort, all of our bedding is new and deer, moose, themed. We have updated our property and we do have 2 older cabins the other 10 cabins have been upgraded.

We arrived at Muskie Bay Resort at noon on Saturday June 7th 2014. My wife and I and another couple stopped at the lodge to see if our cabin was ready as we had arrived 3 hours before the 3 PM check in time. We were greeted by Paul Trinkner who has been the owner of Muskie Bay Resort with his wife Chris for the past 18 years. Cabin 6 was ready for us to move in. We have stayed in number 6 five years in a row. It has always been neat and clean upon arrival.
I had sent a friend Muskie Bay's web address while at the resort and said we were staying in cabin 6. His response to the photos on the website of cabin 6 was "looks like you are living high on the hog!"
After launching our boat I talked with Paul. He told me the colors, lures, depths, and locations to try for the elusive lake trout in Crow Lake that were currently producing. The lake trout were really shallow considering ice out was May 20th. We caught more 2 pound bass while trolling for lake trout than ever before. Just for the record: bass are catch and release January 1st to June 30th.
When we went to Steven's Bay on Lake of the Woods, Paul gave us suggestions on what to use and where to fish for walleyes. We knocked the socks off of them!
All in all we had one of our best and most memorable fishing vacations this year!
Remember to bring your camera, not only for the fish you catch, but also for the wildlife and scenery you will see above and below the clear waters of Crow Lake (Lake Kakagi on maps). We watched a 4 foot long muskie swim past our boat at a depth of 6 feet in a quiet bay on a windy afternoon!

We have been coming to Muskie Bay since 1976. The owners are knowledgeable, readily available and always helpful. The cabins are always clean and well-maintained. Paul has an excellent knowledge of Crow Lake as well as Lake of the Woods. Chris is an excellent cook. Thanks Paul and Chris for another wonderful time!

Just returned from Muskie Bay Resort. Everything was great. Accommodations, food and fishing was excellent for our group of ten people. Paul and Christine and Jacob went out of their way to accommodate our group in everyway. The rental boats were excellent and Paul and Jacob's sharing their knowledge of the lakes made our fishing success even better. I will return in the future as often as I can.

It was our first time here and we enjoyed it very much. The food was excellent, and the boats and lodging were great too. The fishing was good with a 40 inch and 43 inch muskies. The owner Paul took us out one night for lake trout, and my buddy got a 6 pound fish in a 100 feet of water. It was very cool to see and a beautiful fish. The scenery was awesome, and we saw several bald eagles. You have the option to fish Crow or Lake of the Woods, and they have awesome map chips with their boats. Without those you would get lost and the lakes are gigantic. Paul and Chris are great hosts!

Party of ten serious fisherman visited Muskie Bay Resort after having to cancel a yearly trip at another resort. Two guys in our party had stayed at the resort during ice fishing for lake trout. Paul Trinkner and crew accommodated us flawlessly during this end of May trip.
Paul and Jake guided us on both Crow Lake and Lake of the Woods. Very knowledgeable of both lakes and put us on fish. Fishing was fair because of weather and mayfly hatch. Rental boats were in good condition with GPS/depth finder combos. Resort is on Crow Lake with the access to LOW across the highway a few miles on a dirt logging road.
Meals provided were some of the best food I have had at a resort. Chris and Paul are great cooks and accommodated special/individual diet requests. Jake and Paul cooked shore lunch for the group that was outstanding. Cabins were clean with daily housekeeping. Prices reasonable with no hidden fees. No problems or concerns on this trip. If you are a lake trout or muskie fishermen, this resort should be visited summer or winter.

Best available place to stay in the winter! We will be back.
Have been going up to Sioux Lookout and surrounding area to fish for 5 years in the winter, and always dread the available lodging options. This was out first trip to Musky Bay, and I have to say I was very impressed.
The owners were available at all times and worked with our schedule and our needs. They were very knowledgable about the local fishing, and how to access even the most remote areas. The cabin was very clean, and kept up well. All ammenities worked perfectly for our entire stay, which can be tough to do in the middle of winter!
