Arrived in Pedernales October 28. Wanted to stay close by Jaragua National Park, Bahia de Las Aquilas and beaches. Only planned on staying a few days. Now 11 days later we've got to leave for our flight. What a wonderful place. 1st floor, 2 beds, private bathroom. Opens on a cobblestone courtyard just filled with native trees, vines, large palm. Feels like an oasis. Resturant is closed due to Covid, but I can always rustle up some coffee in the morning. Can't even hear the ubiquitous roosters in the morning with the door closed. Parking is open and easy. Guard at night friendly and watchful. The hostess Katia couldn't be more gracious. Not alot of tourists right now but family , longtime friends old and younger, grandchildren running around. We feel like guests at a family function. I had a hankering for goat and Katia sent for and prepared some beautiful creole stew, rice, aguacati for everyone. Then out came the music, dancing, alaround merriment. This part of DR isn't for everybody. But the parks, beaches, cows and goats wandering about, to me it's paradise. Even found some Scuba , Gorgeous pristine coral. Thanks Katia, hope to see you again.…
Although they may have issues with the water from time to time once the management is informed it gets fixed immediately! it has many beautiful outdoor seating areas and an extra cold air conditioner!
We have been 3 nights at Dona Chava. B&B well located, quirkly, nice garden and balconies for clients. Wide cozy room, basic furniture. Bathroom with hot water (ask for a ground floor room for not having problems). Staff very polite and kind, when we reserved they provide us helpful infos on how to get to Pedernales
The hotel itself is picturesque, it has all the basics you need in a lovely setting. Also, the owners are genuinely lovely people. The owner took us up one of the nearby mountains, the view was stunning, he was so knowledgable about the history and the natural world! We also had a great time at the beach! Best to take a 4x4 if heading to Bahia de las Aguilas.
If they just added hot water and started breakfast early this place would be great. The rooms are small but sensibly laid out. They have air con (evening and night) and fans, good breakfast, a restaurant (independently run) and a bar. It's well located, not too noisy and great value, we slept well and would recommend it.
