What Samuel Johnson would have made of The Talbot Inn, had he been travelling from London to Wells, would make a good conversation piece in the bar of this lovely old coaching inn/country pub. Certainly he would have been confused and delighted by the utter comfort of the bedrooms and their en-suites. And, surely he would have enjoyed the bonhomie...

We came here (myself, my husband, and my mum and dad) at 6:30pm for a drink on Mother's Day. Decided to stay for food. Didn't feel massively welcome. My mum ordered fish and chips with peas - and was told there were no peas that evening. So my mum said "ok that's fine. Please can I have extra salad with...

What I like to call "delunctional". Delicious. Functional. Functional hey. Quintessential country pub with as good a burger as we've had in a long time and delicious risotto. In fact, the other (better, wiser) half said it was the best she has had since impregnating). Very impressed. The Butcombe ale was served chilled which I have to say was perfect....

The warmth of this place is hard to describe. It appeals to all my senses. The food is divine, the selection at the bar is thoughtful, quirky and smart. The rooms are utterly blissful, from the art work that rejects placid hotel convention to the little brown bag beside the exquisite tea selection bearing chocolate brownies even a non-chocolate lover...

Stayed at The Talbot as we were given a voucher as a Christmas gift from our daughter. Really friendly staff, beautiful room, Room 1. And dinner and breakfast were excellent. Off the beaten track, but well worth a visit. Lovely walks close by.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Talbot and loved it. It is at the centre of the charming village of Mells and the Talbot Team of Matt, Daniel, Sophie, Floyd and Georgie did everything to make our stay comfortable and hugely enjoyable. Our room, while small, was cozy and very well equipped with tea and coffee and lovely toiletries....

Great pub in a beautiful, quite quintessential, English village. More than a pub I know but we just dropped in for a drink. The restaurant looks good but it's difficult to book, even months ahead at peak times like Christmas. I would go back and try again though and it looks like a very nice place to stay as well.

We had a quick trip to the Talbot Inn Mell's to spend a night in the county and a lovely part of England it is. The walks are excellent, sadly the weather was not on our side but we still got out and stayed on the hard stuff. The room we stayed in is dog friendly and very nice indeed...
