Have stayed here multiple times and we keep coming back. We stayed in studio cabin 1 which was spotless with great views of the bay. The cabin is perfect for couples with a full size fridge and cupboard space and dogs are welcomed!
The bed was comfy, the shower amazing and we had everything we needed for a 6 night stay. Being winter, the reverse cycle heating kept us warm and cosy. The grounds are well maintained with plenty of room and the fire pits get plenty of use. Great fishing spots both local & nearby for the anglers. Fantastic local fish and chips and the walking track along the bay was well used and appreciated by us & our dog daily!
The owners & staff are lovely, so friendly and helpful, they always make us feel like welcomed guests.
Just what we needed to relax and de stress

I rented a studio cabin for a week, in the middle of winter, and I was very pleased with it. It was bigger than most studio rooms in motels. The kitchen had everything that I required, including an electric frypan which was very handy as most days were very windy and cold to cook outside on the BBQ. The bed was super comfortable. The bathroom was large and the shower had good pressure and a fan installed on the wall to remove the steam. I had wonderful water views from my cabin. Close to two take away venues, though you can book to eat in at the Pelican Rocks Cafe, and other shops. I plan to visit again when the weather is warmer.

The safari tent we stayed in was a great experience for our first glamping trip. The grounds were well maintained and clean, great location. The tent itself was very clean and roomy, however being winter could have benefited with a larger oil heater as it was a little cold and the lights outside weren’t working, bit hard to see when arriving back at night. The amenities were missing a few things such as toilet paper and a few little extras in the kitchen. The deck and outdoor furniture could have used a spruce up with some decking oil to make the place a 5 star worthy and improved insta pics :)
But overall loved it, great for families and friends, will definitely be back.

We stayed here without researching the location properly, but based on the consistent excellent reviews & being allowed to bring our dog, we figured we couldn’t go wrong. Congratulations to the owners for their excellent website giving the impression that this retreat is located amongst a more remote seaside location rather than being in an old small caravan park in the middle of town, overlooking suburban houses.

The Safari tent is spacious, clean & equipped with excellent bathroom/kitchen facilities. Comfy bed, clean linen, Bbq & deck is great along with free laundry. And once you get past the location, There’s definitely a lot to love about the amenities. Great friendly owners etc

However I would not describe this place as a retreat or glam(ping) & the sparseness of furniture in my opinion is a missed opportunity in creating the atmosphere I had expected. At nearly $300 night I was expecting more. Way more. Everything seems to be from ikea or Kmart & there is no comfy soft furnishings apart from the bed. And no tv. Even my husband was commenting on how he would decorate differently. There was no desire to lounge around on the deck & read a book as planned due to the seating being hard & awkward to get in & out of.

To top this off, This area boasts 100 beaches to explore & we found Greenwell point was not the ideal place from which to explore those.

Whilst some potential is there, In all, we are sorry to say that south coast retreat didn’t meet our expectations of a glamping experience nestled amongst an eco retreat.

Dear angelakate, We're sorry we didn't meet your expectations and apologise in advance for this hasty reply. We are busy and tired from focusing on managing the impacts of bush fires from a business and personal perspective, ranging from finding emergency accommodation for evacuees and workers to communicating with current and future guests, issuing refunds & associated admin and now trying to assist those who have lost their homes or who cannot get or return home due to power / water issues. All our cabins and two of our six tents overlook the water. The remainder have small water views and overlook lawn / garden and an old amenities block. Behind three tents are wattle trees, a fence and then Greenwell Point houses, as shown in the banner of our website (not the trees and tents, it's an old photo). We are at the tip of Greenwell Point, not in the middle. Our rates change with the seasons, ranging from approx $100 - $400 for the safari tents. When we are $300 the sort of place you imagined will be $600 - $900 per night. Our furniture is from many different places, some bespoke, some K-Mart, some IKEA, and some imported by us from eco-furn in Finland and some from other places... Due to the fires we did have a mini tornado which destroyed some outdoor furniture, so maybe this is why your deck didn't have a day bed - or maybe it did but the padding wasn't padded enough for you? The Shoalhaven is a very big area and there is no single place from which you could explore all 100 beaches. End to end, driving on the highway non-stop would take approximately 3 hours each way. From South Coast Retreat you had access to 10-20 beaches all within a 20-30 min drive. We agree that there is a lot of potential and over the last 10 years we have made much progress in achieving that potential. We will be continuing to improve things and again are sorry that you were disappointed by a lack of research etc. Regards, Liz

This place is NOTHING like the photos. The business has invested in professional photography but could have invested in housekeeping instead. The rooms are basic and small. The cleanliness is minimal. We found utensils needed to be cleaned prior to use. The common facilities were not in good clean condition.

The facility as a whole is quite open and not secure. The location is at the end of a road from Nowra.

The common bbq area was not clean. In short not value for money.

The complex offers a variety of accomodation, from one bedroom self contained cabins to motel type accommodation to holiday houses for large groups or families.

We stayed in a one bedroom self contained cabin which also was small dog friendly
There is no reception office, once booking is made, you receive instructions on how to access the lock box for keys to access your accommodation.

Cabins seem well spaced apart & noticed other people with small dogs staying in the complex

Location wise is excellent for Greenwell Point, right across quiet road is the river with boat ramps, jetties & a park plus walking path that leads you along the river & creek. Close by are cafes & Pub, Butcher & local supermarket in easy walking distance.

If you are bring a boat or trailer then you will find that these have to be parked on the street or in the carpark of the Boat Ramp as each venue only seems to have one car spot. There is also an EV charger near Cabin 3.

The WiFi was excellent and there are four seperate wifi connections

We visited in a non-peak period & found it ideal. I probably would think in peak holiday periods it wouldn’t be as quiet but is ideal for couples, families & large groups also Cabin 4 is wheelchair accessible

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed and positive review! It's great to know that our small dog-friendly policy and well-spaced cabins added to your comfort. We strive to create a welcoming environment for all our guests, including their furry companions. We're also pleased that you found our location ideal, with easy access to the river, local amenities, and scenic walking paths. Your observations about parking and the EV charger near Cabin 6 are very helpful, and we appreciate you mentioning them for future guests' benefit. We’re glad the WiFi met your needs and that you had a peaceful visit during the non-peak period. We understand that peak times might bring more activity, but we do our best to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone, whether they are couples, families, or large groups. Thank you again for your kind words and useful insights. We hope to welcome you back to our complex soon!

We have stayed here many times and have always had a great experience. Bed is super comfortable, cabin is always clean and staff can not do enough to make stay enjoyable. There is a fire pit to enjoy in the evenings and a library of books to borrow. Simon and Ray checked in on us daily to ensure we were comfortable even though at the time fires were an issue to their own homes. Fishing straight across from the cabin is great and we enjoyed bream for lunch cooked on the balcony BBQ. Our dog Banjo loves the daily walks and has met many friends himself! We can not say enough about this place or the staff and can not wait to go there again

South Coast Retreat is a great place to stay. It is pet friendly!!! We especially liked the gated porch. The park on the foreshore is well appointed with safe children's play equipment, boat ramps, fish cleaning steel bench numerous picnic tables. The walk along the foreshore is stunning. Amenities such as Pelican Rocks Cafe and the local IGA are an easy walk from the cabins.

Stayed in the 1 bedroom cabin. Compact and clean, and close to the village shops and municipal swimming pool. The kitchen has a gas hob and oven, and there is a full size fridge-freezer, and enough utensils to cover most eventualities. Also an electric BBQ on the small balcony/deck. Great place to stay whether you are looking for a base for touring, or just somewhere for a few days of downtime.

The place was clean enough with a large modern bathroom but apart from that there's not too many positives. The gaps in the balcony railing are too wide for a small pup, the mattress seems well past its best days & appeared to slope, and the towels supplied were extremely thin & more suited to kids than adults.
The town itself is strange - 2 cafes that close by 3pm with only the pub available for a feed unless you want to cook yourself.

Hi Joyce, Yes we do charge a one off $30 fee to all bookings. I apologise if it seems odd but the problem is a one night stay in winter (when our rates can be as low as $95 per night) booked via a 3rd party site is unsustainable without the fee. Also, as Phil notes this is now quite standard. Hope you understand. Best regards, Liz
