We decided to visit Barra de Santiago for the turtle release, and wished we had done so at Tortuga Verde in eastern El Salvador instead. The dorms were horrible value at $10 per person. Here are the issues we had with the property: -the lock on the door didn't work -there was no light bulb, and when we had the...

We rented two rooms for a week - there were five of us. The big attraction for the rooms for some family members was that there was air conditioning (it's hot in March). The big attraction for me was that is was quiet. The food is very basic and they don't have everything that is listed on the menu. Since...

For those who like somewhat out of the way places, Capricho is great. The room was very clean, even the windows sparkled. Meals were basic, served timely, and the dining settings were charming. The location near the end of the point made it easy to walk the beach or the estuary. Rafael, the host, was helpful and cheerful. A fine...

Perfect place in idilic location off the beaten track. Huge beach with no-one around. This area is a protected nature reserve so you can see turtles on the beach (not always!) and can take a trip by boat to the mangroves - very peaceful and beautiful place with not a sound except for birds. Overall this place is ideal for...

The best qualities of this hotel are: A perfect ocean view and a great service. I consider this hotel one of the best of it's kind. It's a boutique hotel, a small one but really cozy, located at "Barra de Santiago", to my knowledge, the best beach of El Salvador. The price is reasonable, I consider it a really fair...

This place is hidden away and right on one of the best beaches in El Salvador. It is nothing fancy, but nicely kept, clean and quiet. Our room fit two adults and a child in a cosy manner; it had a/c but we did nit use it. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Having stayed in several beach hotels...

My girlfriend and I stayed here in August 2013 and it was an excellent experience! This is more of a hostel experience than a resort/hotel experience, so do not expect the type of luxury that might come from an all inclusive resort. The room was very basic but it did the job (we didn't come to spend time in the...

Back in January when we stayed here I left a review of Caprichio Beach House which has now been removed from trip advisor following a reply from the owner. In my review I stated that this is a beautiful part of the country, the staff were extremely friendly, and the food (while limited) was surprisingly good considering the location, but...

Our plans for going to Guatemala we're dashed when our diver no-showed on us in Santa Ana. So for a group of four middle-aged American men not knowing what to do next--we took the advice of lonely planet guide book and headed to Barra de Santiago and the Capricho Beach House for 2 nights. Wow! What a way to end...

I traveled to El Salvador alone and because I was afraid of doing so, the owner of this hotel did everything to accommodate my needs. I am vegan and she had her staff go out shopping to create meals that were vegan-friendly. She even called while I was in my transfer cab to see if I had arrived safely. My...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Capricho Beach House is a small hotel situated at the beach front of the peninsula Barra de Santiago. This cozy and relaxed place is made in ecological style with palm thatched roofs, rustic motifs, wooden beams and the four rooms share a cool corridor overlooking the beach. The spectacular natural surroundings frame this property with the long stretched sandy beach in front and the still waters of the estuary (lagoon) at the back side. The area is dotted with coconut palms and is frequented by different birds such as humming birds visiting the flowers in the garden. The rooms all have A/C and private bath. There is a lounge area for sun bathing, small palm thatched ranchos at the beach front, a living room and restaurant area. Our hotel offer a restaurant service from 6am to 9pm but if you want to visit other places, the village (3kms away) and the Bocana (1 kms away) are other options for meals. This is the perfect place for nature lovers as the location is conducive to enjoy the amazing wildlife in this protected natural area. Tours into the mangroves to observe birds, reptiles, crocodiles, mammals and the local fishing community´s way of life tops the list along with surf activities, observing the great ocean turtles and other ecological conservation programs. Services available are : board rental, surf classes, boat trips into the estuary or mangroves, fishing trips, night walks to observe turtle lay eggs on the beach and turtle baby release tours. Transport services to International Airport, San Salvador, Ruta de Las Flores, El Imposible and Los Cobanos are available. . Barra de Santiago village is just 3 kms away and is the home of fishermen and their families and a couple of small stores and diners. Common denominator of the area is that it’s very healthy environment where you can feel safe walking around also after dark. To visit the beautiful bocana (tip of the peninsula) it is just a 15 min. walk from Capricho. From here you can observe on clear days the impressive volcanic mountain chain all the way from Cerrro Verde volcanic complex to the Volcanoes of Pacaya, Agua and Fuego of Guatemala. Beyond the mangroves you also spot the green slopes of the El Imposible National Park. ... more   less
