Detailed Reviews
Stayed here 3 nights mid August in a standard dbl room.
We stayed here because we needed to take a refresh dive course, which we did here.
The room is very basic, but had what we needed. The bed was nice (good madras, but a bit noisy when moving).
There is a quite large balcony having two sun beds facing the harbor. Great sunset view from here.
The pool is primarily for divers.
Breakfast vas a simple set one.
It’s located on the main street with lots of good restaurant optionsÂ
The staff her are so nice and very service mindedÂ
It’s a very typical dive location and it was what we needed.Â
If we come back, we will love to stay here and hopefully do some diving we them too. Seems like a very professional dive center with skilled instructors.
One additional thing. We expected Labuan Bajo to be a dirty little port, but it was much more nice than expected.
We would love to come back.

I wanted a dive master to stay with me the whole time as I’m not a confident diver. Simon was beside me all the way and was super helpful and calm. Phil the main dive master was also fabulous and I’m happy to recommend them highly to anyone who comes diving in Komodo!

I was impressed by the well-organized operating process and the attention to detail given to each diver. The briefing is also fun and helps you continue to have fun diving. In particular, I learned a lot from the professional guides of Sandra and Dottie, even though I am a qualified instructor.

Great learning aspect with this company. The knowledge they continue to pass on was wonderful and refreshing. Fast boat to the sites three dives.Helpful boat crew. Dive Masters continued the skill criteria for fish ID, refresher, reef maintenance with buoyancy. Super impressive. Great dive sites. Great lunch. Very nice company to dive with.

This is not a review of anything but the hotel itself. In short, go elsewhere. The tap/shower in the bathroom were unbelievably rusty. The bed was awful. The price is very high for that town. Had we been spending more than one night we would have left immediately.

My husband and I had booked the live onboard for diving with Blue Marlin so we decided to stay at their hotel in Labuan Bajo the night before we were due to head out to the live onboard. We stayed in the private double room and it was the worst night of sleep we ever had... barely got any sleep. The private double rooms are located in the basement of the building right underneath the restaurant and bar. While we were trying to sleep all of a sudden there were very loud screeching from the ceiling that sounded like furniture being dragged on the floor which went on for quite a while. There was a repeat of this very early in the morning. To add to all this, the rooms are located right next to storage rooms where the staff were constantly and very noisily coming in and out of- this was non-stop so while we were trying to sleep we were able to clearly hear several staff members chatting, and banging doors as they go in and out of the storage rooms. Also, the aircon was making a loud mechanical sound all night (they really should service the aircon to ensure that it is operating correctly and quietly). There is no telephone in the room so to complain we would have had to get out of bed and put on some clothes to go out to the reception area which is located on the main road and right next to the restaurant. The reason I booked at Blue Marlin is because I thought it would be convenient to head out from there the next morning to the live onboard- this was not true as the we had to walk for around 10mins to get to the jetty. Labuan Bajo town is very small and there are several other places that are better and cheaper to stay in within a 2min walk from Blue Marlin and so we could have had a good nigh's sleep and saved a lot of money, as their double room was priced much higher than most places in town, if we had stayed somewhere else. The room smelled terrible and they had air freshener bags hanging from the aircon in the room and another placed in the bathroom which did not help to mask the awful smell. The place is very poorly-concieved without it's guests comfort in mind and abhorrently priced considering what you get in return.

We did three nights on the liveaboard - Ikan Biru (see seperate review for full trip description) and 4 nights at Blue Marlin hotel.
The hotel is very comfortable, clean and the staff are very friendly. The air cond is new and works great. Price is extremely fair. Location is perfect, we did not need to hire a scooter as it is on the main road and very central to all restaurants, shops etc...
A couple of things that would have been great would be a small bar fridge, it gets hot on the balcony and I would have purchased a few cold Bintangs from the fridge if there was one.
I also think that the rooms need block out curtains, we were in room one (on the corner) so it was very bright at 6am and as our diving was all complete we just wanted to sleep in.
The bathrooms are new, clean and very nice but something should be done about the hot water system and pressure (had perfect showers at Flores spa just down the road)
Also WIFI was only accessible from the restaurant, not the rooms.
Apart from that we are 100% happy and counting down the days for our return.

Labuan Bajo is not a town that you would want to visit as a destination unless you plan to trek or dive in Komodo National Park in my honest opinion. Blue Marlin handles the acomodations and diving side expertly.
The hotel accommodations are excellent, the rooms are clean and modern with outstanding views of the picturesque harbor and beyond. The deluxe room features a comfortable queen size bed with a nice bathroom with oversized walking shower which supplies hot water. The 3 Deluxe rooms each have a very nice patio with 2 lounge chairs supplied with beach towels.
The restaurant is directly above the 3 deluxe rooms, I had noted in other reviews that the noise from the restaurant/ bar directly above is excessive so I prepared for the worst. We had booked room # 2 & 3 for 5 nights from March 31st to April 4th. At no time were we bothered by excessive noise from above.
Which brings me to the restaurant review:
Free breakfast = Awesomeness, nice selection freshly cooked or healthy fruit & yogurt options. Lunch and dinner menu is the same which is fine, bottom line is why go anywhere else to eat, food is good and the beer is cold, also full bar available. Staff is excellent, food comes up from the kitchen fast located on the floor that house the deluxe rooms.
The only negative I can think of is that the steps leading from the street entry level to the room level (2nd floor) and the dive shop / pool, are very Indonesian (steep). Use handrails and don't expect to take down more than 1 suitcase or dive bag at a time (not the you will have to, staff is always there to help)
Now to the actual diving:
How can I put this other than if I had 10 thumbs all would be pointed up, the staff is superb. From dive shop Managers Kim & Dai, to all of the support staff, you can not find a better service staff anywhere, I have over 500 dives, not an expert by any stretch, but I have seen my share of resort dive shops, this is far and away the best.
Attention to detail should be Dai's middle name, from his introduction to the fast boat Toby and all of the on board equipment to his unparalleled attention to dive breifing details along with his undeniable passion for diving. A genuine pleasure to dive with. Our memories of Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park were definatly enhanced due to the expert team that saw to our every need on the boat, The time spent between dives was used to hydrate with a choice of fruit juices, tea, coffee or water along with a good lunch and fruits available.
I must mention that Vero and Shannon were superior staff who accompanied the 3 of us during our 9 advanced dives.

When you're in a small town in Indonesia this place is perfect... Great rooms, great food, stunning view and all on top of being the best dive centre in Komodo... Can't wait to go back soon!
Kim, Dai and all the other staff are excellent hosts and always make you feel welcome.

All in all Blue Marlin Komodo's is a nice place to stay, especially comparing it with other places in Labuan Bajo, although in my opinion the price/quality ratio is off. I paid $ 90 for one night (incl breakfast) in peak season and I think that's quite expensive for what you get, unless the central location is really important to you.
Pro's:
- great view onto the harbour
- nice terrace with two very comfortable loungers to enjoy that view from
- located on Labuan Bajo's main street, so your're only a few steps away from all the nice restaurants, café's and whichever shop you want to go
- nice looking, fresh room
- good bed and pillows
- spotlessly clean
- nice people (Dai, one of the managers, went out of his way to try and find me a battery for my divecomputer, the other manager Kim is also friendly, the servants are all very sweet and smiley)
- good shower
- good aircon
Con's:
- you're on top of the diveshop: that means that being out on your nice terrace you will be hearing the compressorroom loudly droning on; if they are filling the gasolinetanks for the boats the fumes will drive you away from your terrace alltogether
- in the bathroom there is literally nothing to put your toiletries on: no planchets and no space on the rim of the (very small) washbasin
- there is a swimmingpool, there is however no space around it to sit & read or whatever, so it's not providing any opportunity for lounging and sunbathing; if it is used for diveinstruction there is no room in the swimmingpool for you;
- the restaurant is on the floor above your room, the kitchen is on the same floor as the rooms; early sleepers may have to contend with quite some noises, after midnight it is quite peaceful though
- hardly any wifi in the room (Kim told me there should be, but that it was sometimes spotty; during the four days and nights I stayed there I only occassionally would have a weak wifisignal for a few minutes, the wifisignal from the restaurant next door, Matahari, was much more reliable in the room, haha).
Other things worth noting:
- safety deposit box in the room
- if you have trouble walking stairs, this place is not for you: you need to take about 10 steep and big steps down to get to your room.
- if you're on a budget, you don't mind sharing your room and you're just looking for a conveniently located bed and bathroom: there is a spotlessly clean hostel backpackersroom that sleeps 4 people with a nice roomy bathroom and aircon

So the dorm, which is in the bottom floor of the building, does not have any lockers (I was there last December) like other dorms. It does have drawers and places to store your things but nothing you can lock. The dorm however, has a lock and you will be given a key.
That being said, the premises are really safe (the local staff are always around and they know who's staying here and who isn't) and if you have anything extremely expensive I bet you can always leave it in the office upstairs.
