Scuba Junkie Komodo is a 5* PADI dive centre and eco-dive resort. Being located away from the crowds of Labuan Bajo means that the evenings are relaxed and quiet. We have a decking area that is perfect for watching the sunset. We currently have two custom made dive boats that provide a great place to relax between dives and enjoy the stunning scenery. Being closer to the Komodo National Park means that we can get to the dive sites just that little bit earlier, avoiding seeing other dive centres at the dive sites. We look forward to diving with you!

I stayed at SJK from January 12-19 and it was simply one of the best scuba experiences in 20 years of diving. I tried getting to Komodo for several years and I have to say that both SJK and Komodo delivered in full!!

The resort has a beautiful, quiet location with awesome sunsets and incredible star-lit skies. My air con room (Nr. 4) was large, always clean and had a great view as well.

The operation runs like clockwork with all staff (resort and diving) being incredibly professional yet personal, fun and friendly as well. I found them sincerely interested in ensuring that everything was going well for the guests and that we had everything we needed.

Although no operation can take credit or blame for what one sees or doesn’t see in the water, I had an absolutely awesome 15 dives. Mantas on 6 dives out of 12 as 3 were macro sites due to bad weather on the first day. And when the mantas came, they came in numbers and stayed around (30 to 40 minutes on each occasion). Add in eagle rays, devil rays, stingrays, tons of fishlife, and for those who fancy the critters plenty of nudibranchs, etc.
Several of the dive sites’ coral reefs equaled the best I’ve seen in Raja Ampat. I had 6 or 7 “world-class” dives and the guides were as good as they come.

The bat tour and the dragon tour were super as well.

For those considering diving Komodo, you will experience two different worlds depending on whether you stay at SJK or in town at LBJ. In one you get stars, sunsets, peace and quiet and 1 hour rides to the sites. We had almost all the sites to ourselves. In the other you get busy streets, dust and noise, horns blaring, touts hitting you up every 10 meters on the main drag and longer rides to the sites (although the scenery isn’t the worst 😊). ( I stayed in town 1 night after SJK).

I think SJK offers as good an overall value for money diving experience that I’ve experienced anywhere and can give them my highest recommendation!

Thanks to everyone at SJK for a great experience. I will see you again! All the best.
Sincerely,
Peter

Exactly two years after my first Komodo liveaboard trip, I've decided to come back and bring some friends to dive in Komodo National Park. I realized after my liveaboard trip that you don't really need to do liveaboard for diving in Komodo because of the close proximity of the dive sites (unless you want to do some specific dive sites that's really far e.g. Cannibal Rock). So, for my second Komodo trip, I decided to look for land based diving resorts and picked Scuba Junkie Komodo. We stayed there for 8 days.

Pros:
1. The location - we wanted to getaway from the noises and city vibe of Labuan Bajo and SJK offers that exactly. Very minimal lights and noises. Peaceful vibes.
2. We stayed in the newly built ensuite room with A/C and it was very nice and comfortable. Also the room was very spacious with private balcony.
3. The cleaning staffs were very nice. Our beds were made and the room was nicely cleaned everyday. I believe they even fold our clothes we left out in a hurry for morning dives. Kudos to the team!
4. The food was amazing. Never hungry.
5. The diving staffs were very professional - we got Adie, Yadi and Eggie as dive leaders. All of them were very nice and professional. Big stuffs were quite obvious, but they were also very talented in finding the macro stuffs.
6. The system SJK got going was very professional - the safety briefings, the dive site selections and briefing, etc.
7. There is nothing to say about diving in Komodo. I've got all the reasons to come back this time and perhaps the third time soon!
8. The boat crew were nice and very active. Captain Waris took us safely through a storm on our way back to Labuan Bajo.

Few suggestions:
1. It would be nice to have some fresh water on the diving boat to rinse your body after each dive.
2. The water at the resort is quite brackish. I think it's normal for secluded resort like this. After a while, we were fine with it though.

Overall, we were very happy with SJK and planning to visit other Scuba Junkie resorts next!

Hi Sarut, Thank you so much for taking the time to write us such a lovely and detailed review of your time with us. It was such a pleasure to have you all here! It's great to hear that you enjoyed all the things that make the resort so unique - the location, the epic food, the lack of traffic and of course the dive staff! The dry season this year went on a lot longer then usual, so we must be conscious of not putting too much of a strain on the natural water source - which is why we don't have fresh water showers on the dive boats. The water for the taps and the showers comes from the natural well in Warloka, as the dry season was so long the water could have been a bit more brackish during your stay. We've had plenty of rain now so the water isn't brackish now :) It was a pleasure to have you at the resort and your photos were fantastic! We hope to welcome you back again soon, until then - happy bubbles! Best wishes, SJK Crew

Short version:
Amazing place, great staff, best food and diving.
Many people wanted to stay longer than initially booked as diving was so great, people fun and food so good!
Bring cash to pay or wire transfer in advance, no credit card facilities on site.

Longer version:
I've been at Scuba Junkie in Mabul/Sipadan and KK before and all the reviews here are amazing so was easy to decide to visit them in Komodo for 6 nights or so, and must say this one was by far the best (and Mabul/Sipadan are pretty good already).

Staff
Diving staff take great care of divers and environment and have super abilities to spot even small sea horses (well done Helen!).
Office/land staff is super nice and in general everyone is happy to have a chat and you can tell their passion is in this place.

Diving
Just superb, manta rays and sharks, what else do you want.
Water is bit on cold side in Jan (25 to 26C), and they have only 3mm wet suits. So maybe bring a hoody if you have one.
We got grounded for one day and went onto a nice hike with nice views, so was a nice chill day.
Muck dives are ok and good to see small stuff if you are into this, but the big stuff is what brings you here.
Briefings are with beautiful hand drawn maps!
There may be strong current, so be aware and stay close to and watch your dive master. And enjoy! Guests are not allowed to use own reef hooks, but the guides have one and you can hold onto theirs.
Super comfy dive boats with lounge seats where you can have a nap. Usually 1-2h to dive site so can relax there. Breakfast, lunch and snacks on the boat as well.

Resort
Food amazing, people good fun.
Nice sunsets, bat tour and hikes.
Get to go to Rinca Island to see the Komodo dragons too.

Hi Peter, Thank you so much for writing such a lovely review of your time here! Its great to hear that you enjoyed so many elements of the diving and the resort - all the things that contribute to a special dive holiday! Helene is a fantastic guide and the tiny things she can find really is amazing! As diving here is incredibly varied, it's great that you got to see the mantas, sharks and turtles as well as tiny sea horses and cool nudibranchs. We hope to welcome you back to the resort some day soon, and until then - happy bubbles! Best wishes, SJK Crew

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our time at SJ Komodo. We did the three days diving package. The email from the team before our stay with all the logistics on was really informative and helpful and the team at the resort were nice. Getting the boat from Labaun Bajo was very easy and straightforward. The resort itself is really pretty with a lovely open plan communal space with lots of comfy spots to chill out. The food was particularly good, there was lots of variety over the 4 days we were there and it was all really tasty (especially the banana fritters post dive snak!) We stayed in a Garden Bale, which is basic as you can imagine but the mattress was comfy and the mosquito net was really good. The shared showers/toilets were fine, they get a bit wet and messy later in the evening and in the morning but are nice and clean when you get back after a long day diving. The diving itself was incredible, we were quite restricted due to weather conditions as to which dive sites we could actually visit, but as a result of this weather we were treated to a dive with we think around 36 Manta rays in one place which was truly spectacular! Unfortunately though this bad weather also meant we were able to stop off at Rinca Island to see the Komodo Dragons on our return journey which we were really gutted about, but we still absolutely loved our time with Scuba Junkie Komodo and would highly recommend a trip here.

Hi Scarlett! Thank you so much for writing a fabulous review of your time here. It was fantastic to have you at the resort and always love having people who have dived with us over in Nusa Penida as well! It's so lovely to hear that you loved the food, as well as the diving (with nearly 26 mantas in one dive, how could you not?!. It was a little tricky with the weather when you were here, and we are sorry you weren't able to see the dragons - hopefully you are able to come back soon! Thanks again! Best wishes, SJK Crew

My husband and I had a big dive trip organised months ago through a third party liveaboard company. The night before we were due to depart from Labuan Bajo the company cancelled and we lost our Christmas trip. In last minute desperation  to find a decent alternative and because we've dived Sipadan with Scuba Junkie and know they priortise safety and quality, we sought to try and get a spot. In contacting scuba Junkie, straight away they were responsive and worked out a way to able to fit us in. They were super accommodating, even though they couldn't offer the same Length of time, we were able to arrange a split between SJ and a shorter liveaboard another reputable company. The crew were great. We dived 3 days with Héléne and she was excellent - one of the best dive masters I've ever dived with. Super chill, but also really safe and attentive: she was aware of the environment around us and our skills as divers. The boat was clean, comfortable, the bale accomodation is basic but comfortable, the food was really good, and we had an amazing dive trip with a really great bunch of people. Not to mention how stunning Komodo diving is! Absolutely top notch, first quality diving! We'll continue diving with Scuba Junkie and will certainly dive Komodo with them again. Thanks for making our Xmas/Near Year dive trip and anniversary really memorable. Beth and Jason

This resort is situated within a little piece of paradise. I shed a little tear when I walked down the wooden pier and saw the place for the first time.

I got the sea facing fan room, which surpassed my expectations and there were even orchid petals on my bed 😊

I rocked up as a solo traveller, but this place is great for groups of friends and couples alike. It's a very social environment, but there is also places to relax if you need your own space too.

The staff at the resort are all kind hearted, lovely, and gentle people. It's definitely feels like a very safe environment.

The dive guides are both professional and friendly and have an unbelievable eye for spotting the tiniest critters. I feel like the dive guides and the boat staff went out of their way to ensure we were all looked after.

The food is delicious and well worth the money. You definitely wont go hungry here.

The diving speaks for itself, but having dived in many different top rated places around the world, I can assure you the diving is truly 5 star and you will not be disappointed.

On top of all this, when I got there, they arranged a driver from the airport to pick me up and take me to the port at Labuan Bajo where a boat was waiting to sail me off to the resort. On the way back, they return me to the port (which is essentially in town) via a trip to Rinca Island for a walking trek to see the famous Komodo dragons. Amazing creatures! (The dragons and all the staff of Scuba Junkie alike)

I got recommended this place by a friend, so I definitely owe her for that.

Everything at Scuba Junkie Komodo is so easy, comfortable, and lovely. I booked last minute to dive over New Years and, though I was traveling with limited WiFi, had no problems making the reservation and getting there and back even with a crazy storm the day of my flight out. The Bales are comfortable and convenient, the food is delicious, and the staff are like old friends. The dive masters are excellent at spotting unique sea life that you come to Komodo to see. The location is beautifully remote will a killer sunset spot on the hill. Also, importantly, they make safety a priority and consider the best dive spots for any level so there are options for all. Loved it here so much, I’m heading back to do the rescue course in just a few weeks.

I went in for New Years holiday and they were having a lovely promo (check their website for promo possibility) and I spent 3 nights in their Bale. I was preparing for the worst and even thinking of bringing my own blanket (glad I didn't) turns out everything is so much better than what I prepared for, their beds are comfy, it's not as cold as I thought it would be, sharing bathrooms are great, more than I needed actually so if you're on a budget trip, get the Bale I'd recommend it.

All of the staff are wearing masks religiously, their new health protocol deserves appreciation alone. Their customer service experience is wonderful, responsive to emails, act quickly and prepared, from the Managers, dive instructors, down to the boat crew and pick up drivers.

This will not be my first time, I am coming back again!

I arrived just before Christmas intending to do 3 days diving. Ended up not only adding an extra day but also returning less than a week later to do my advanced course!

So impressed with every aspect of Scuba Junkie. The food is brilliant (you will never go hungry), the boats are comfortable, the accommodation in the garden bales is lovely. The resort itself is beautiful, very green and lovely areas to sit and relax. The diving is of course incredible, and they did such a good job of making me feel completely safe despite a ten year gap between my open water course and now.

Dive briefings are thorough and professional. I dived with Wandoo (who also taught my course with great patience and humour!), Rahma and Yadi. All three were truly excellent and I know from speaking with other guests that everyone felt the same about their respective guides. A special mention for the crew on the boat, they take care of absolutely everything for you helping you gear up etc. Before you’ve even reached to struggle with something they are there and always with a big smile when you get out of the water. Staff in resort are equally brilliant, you will be warmly welcomed by Euan, Lydia and Kim who run a super smooth operation. In fact there’s not a single member of staff in any aspect of the resort who is anything less than friendly, professional and helpful, even those you don’t interact directly with. It’s a happy place!

I had no idea diving would become such an addiction but 12 hours after leaving SJ Komodo and I’m planning to very likely head over to SJ Nusa Penida next week. It’s that good- it gets you hooked!

A huge congrats to everyone involved for running such a special, fantastic resort.

We had a fabulous 3 weeks here in October (2024) where the weather was warm and the diving was awesome.
Plenty of Manta on some sites (Mawan and Manta Point) along with some shark action in strong current further north on Crystal and Castle rock.
The dive boats were great, and allowed for a lounge and relax before, between and after diving. The boat crew on Alfredi were always helpful and ensured our dive gear was ready to go at the start of the day and clean at the end.
Breakfast on dive days was on board, as was lunch - both lovely. The evening meal was in the common area back at base. The food was very tasty and the chefs did an amazing variety of Indonesian fare which wasn’t spicy unless you added a bit of sauce. I thought I might loose weight with all the diving but the great food seemed to counter this!
The room was spacious with aircon and the shower was great and just what was needed returning after the diving - the aircon was well worth the extra paid. The bed was really comfortable and had a mosquito net around it - although we did have a UV mozzie catcher which did its job nicely.
All staff were very friendly and always helpful, we can’t thank all of them enough for everything they did for us during our stay. Our dive guide, Fauji, was very knowledgeable of all dive sites and the region. He was attentive if we needed it.
It was great to catch up with Pimpin and Fabian, who we had met previously at SJ Sangalaki. Lovely people who couldn’t do enough for you - certainly seems to be a Scuba Junkie staff trait!
Definitely going back next year!

Confirm with the team there, but earlier this year we were with a family doing exactly this, and the team is very flexible and accommodating. Due to the time taken to get there from Labuan Bajo (boat departs LB at 14.00) I would recommend minimum of two nights stay.
