Detailed Reviews
Mark and his team create an amazing experience in this beautiful community on the LaHave River. The soft music piped throughout, wonderfully groomed grounds, inviting chairs everywhere, cozy and smartly appointed rooms and attention to detail and attentiveness made this a relaxing vacation. The open dog friendly concept started with a greeting by his 2 Portuguese Water Dogs and made made a great experience for our older “pup” too. We stayed in the “forever plaid” room on the waters edge. We will go back to enjoy this place again.

Well first of all, we are a small family (me and mom) that prioritizes cleanliness and safety, and prefers self-cooking when choosing accommodation for road trips. For this reason I’ve never stayed at a motel. Lighthouse completely changes the stereotype and has been my best experience in non-hotel accommodations.
To begin with, I was sold by the website: it is well designed, comprehensive and accurate with all the information. Reply to my inquiry was efficient as well. I personally won’t consider those that do not disclose much info on website and can only be booked through phones.
Then we checked in at dusk, after a long day hiking and driving. All the exhaustion evaporated at first sight: I’ve seen rooms matching the pictures, not so much on exceeding the pictures inside out. What gets more impressed is the personal tough: icy water in the fridge, popcorn, and clear instruction on the TV with full list of channels (I’ve given up on TV in different cottages after pressing all the buttons and still not able to connect). For cooking salt and pepper are provided so as far as I remember we just brought oil.
In my experience, most non-hotel accommodations live up to the expectation at best, Lighthouse makes exceeding expectation look so easy. If I may speculate, the owner is devoted to this place as a masterpiece, not just an earning vessel. I’m not saying this is for everyone though, it’s just the right size and a gem for our family. Location wise it has a big shopping mall close by and 20 minutes drive to Lunenberg, convenient yet isolated enough for a peaceful stay.
I just wish this place is not thousands of miles away from where I live…

I cannot say enough about this spot! I highly recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful place to stay on the South Shore. Marc and Shelley are amazing and have so many little thoughtful touches waiting for you! The location is fantastic with so many great beaches and restaurants close by and I highly recommend staying at the boathouse right on the water. The suites are so quaint and with the option for boat rides or a big bonfire with the other guests, this is truly a perfect spot! We will be back for sure!

We just had the pleasure of staying here for 4 wonderful days and nights. We arrived on Friday and was greeted by the ever gracious host Marc. We were shown our suite and was taken aback by the themed rooms and beautiful decor. The property is well groomed and well appointed with picnic tables, umbrellas chairs etc. We will be returning. One of the nicest places we’ve had the pleasure of staying. Robert and Judy Hillman.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our getaway in the Lehave River. We ventured out from Halifax, took the shore down, enjoyed a lunch in Mahone bay and then checked in to our ocean view room at Lighthouse Motel and Cottages. The owner Mark was there to great us, made us feel welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. He showed us to our fresh, stylish room and later arranged an evening boat cruise for us (which is a must). We cooled off with a jump off the dock and cozied up along the campfire that evening. It was absolutely perfect. We ended our trip with breakfast at the Lehave Bakery (another must) and scooted across the River on the cable ferry. Already planning our next trip back with our family.

Our family, which included 46 overnight guests and 4 day time guests, had the privilege of getting together for 3 days and 2 nights at this beautiful location. We had booked the entire facility one year in advance and hoped that COVID and travel restrictions were behind us. After so long apart, our family was able to get together at this amazing destination. It was like an episode on HGTV as we stepped into each of the themed rooms and cottages! Lovely decor, amenities, and comfort greeted us! The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. Two nights of campfires, daily swimming, and fun for all ages who attended. I would highly recommend this motel to anyone! Thanks for the memories...we'll be back in 5 years!

My husband and I spent one night here but will be back for an extended stay. The rooms are boutique, the grounds stunning this is a hidden gem. The owner settled us in our room and forwarded a copy of places to see and restaurant recommendations and made sure we new how to operate everything in the room, so much attention to detail. We lounged on the dock sipping a wine ( we brought ourselves) and just could not get over the beauty.

We had a very nice room, the owners were very nice and accommodating. The room was clean and good smell in the room. Nice cold air conditioning. We made our own meals one night. There was a nice BBQ for us to use on the gazebo if we wanted. We had a nice 10 person pontoon boat trip on the Birdgewater harbour that took 2 hours, and the skipper was an well informational and knowledgeable X RCMP Officer with his Mariner's ticket. Made you feel safe on the water, and got to learn a few things. There was a fire pit to use at night ,which we did and enjoyed our selfs very much. Nice to meet new folks. Over all we had a excellent time and we will do this again in the future . Thank you!

My husband and I stayed in a motel room almost a year ago. The owner gave us a choice of 2 rooms. We chose the brighter one but did not like the sliding door to the bathroom. My husband, who is much taller, had to keep fixing it. I don't know about the cottages but the setting of the complex was lovely.
You can swim in the river ...
Yes, lots of place to explore! It is close enough to Lunenberg and Mahone Bay, that travel is easy.
