The Lighthouse Motel & Cottages is one of only a few remaining 1950s drive-in motels in Nova Scotia. Under new ownership and management since Spring 2017, all 15 air-conditioned units have been completely renovated creating a boutique lodging experience along the LaHave River. Blending modern Canadiana with eclectic coastal elements, The Lighthouse boasts 500 feet of waterfront with a small private beach as well as several acres of green space appointed with communal BBQs, picnic tables for al fresco dining and various seating areas highlighted by a large communal firepit. Unique to the property is a renovated boathouse cottage converted into 3 studios directly on the LaHave River & a 2 bedroom cottage that can accommodate up to 6 guests. Situated on the historic Lighthouse Route minutes away from Crescent & Rissers Beaches, the property is perfectly situated for exploring nearby Lunenburg, Mahone Bay & Kejimkujik National Park. Oh, & dogs are welcome here!

Terrific location, beautiful property, views etc. Stayed in the boathouse, right on the water, very comfortable room. Laid back atmosphere, really appreciated the BBQ too. Lots of outdoor space to relax, including large dock with Muskoka Chairs. Minutes to Bridgewater and the famous Lahave ferry and Bakery.

My husband and I spent one night here but will be back for an extended stay. The rooms are boutique, the grounds stunning this is a hidden gem. The owner settled us in our room and forwarded a copy of places to see and restaurant recommendations and made sure we new how to operate everything in the room, so much attention to detail. We lounged on the dock sipping a wine ( we brought ourselves) and just could not get over the beauty.

My wife and I stayed here from July to Sept/2022. We stayed in all but three of the rooms on site and to ask us which room is our favorite would be like asking us to choose our favorite child. You know, they all have their own personalities, their strengths and in the end...we loved them all. Everything about The Lighthouse Motel is warm and inviting. The music playing throughout the property, the warm greeting and friendly service. I have never recommended a hotel/motel to anyone in my life...until we stayed here. I have told anyone who will listen what a hidden gem this motel is. I would highly recommend it to anyone out there considering staying at The Lighthouse Motel. Marc and his entire staff are a quality act that is rare to find in the hospitality business. Stay...you will not be disappointed.

As soon as you park to the office to check in, you know you've arrived to a special place: soft music playing in the background, well-maintained flower beds, beautiful nautical decor. And then you get to meet the BEST host in all Atlantic Canada! Mark will make you feel at home the minute you meet him and will be available throughout your stay, if needed. Loved staying in the Regatta Room,,, can't beat the view! Great quality toiletries, well-equipped kiitchenette. Highly recommend the pontoon tour on the river - great captain and very knowledgeable about the area. Spent lots of time on the adirondack chairs on the dock, under the shade of the umbrellas. This place gives you the feel of a boutique caribean resort mixed with East Coast hospitality!

Well first of all, we are a small family (me and mom) that prioritizes cleanliness and safety, and prefers self-cooking when choosing accommodation for road trips. For this reason I’ve never stayed at a motel. Lighthouse completely changes the stereotype and has been my best experience in non-hotel accommodations. To begin with, I was sold by the website: it is well designed, comprehensive and accurate with all the information. Reply to my inquiry was efficient as well. I personally won’t consider those that do not disclose much info on website and can only be booked through phones. Then we checked in at dusk, after a long day hiking and driving. All the exhaustion evaporated at first sight: I’ve seen rooms matching the pictures, not so much on exceeding the pictures inside out. What gets more impressed is the personal tough: icy water in the fridge, popcorn, and clear instruction on the TV with full list of channels (I’ve given up on TV in different cottages after pressing all the buttons and still not able to connect). For cooking salt and pepper are provided so as far as I remember we just brought oil. In my experience, most non-hotel accommodations live up to the expectation at best, Lighthouse makes exceeding expectation look so easy. If I may speculate, the owner is devoted to this place as a masterpiece, not just an earning vessel. I’m not saying this is for everyone though, it’s just the right size and a gem for our family. Location wise it has a big shopping mall close by and 20 minutes drive to Lunenberg, convenient yet isolated enough for a peaceful stay. I just wish this place is not thousands of miles away from where I live…

This is a recently renovated and re-energized motel under new ownership by two remarkably creative moteliers. For our daughter's wedding this past weekend, we, the wedding party, and some of our family and friends stayed here. Everyone thought it was lovely! Everyone was captivated by the different South Shore themes in the rooms (e.g. ours had a nautical theme) and the views of the La Have River from the expansive lawn. Our family and friends particularly enjoyed a bonfire at the firepit overlooking the water. The staff were all so helpful and welcoming, fitting so well with what you would hope for in the Maritimes. We'll definitely recommend this motel to others, and plan to come back for another stay before too long.

This is the 2nd time this summer we have stayed at the beautiful Lighthouse Motel and Cottages. The 1st time was for our 35 Wedding Anniversary and we quickly rebooked. It has all the amenities for a relaxing stay. Restaurants, activities, shopping and so much more are easily accessible. The rooms are delightfully designed with all the comforts you need. Whether you want a Homebase to explore from or an Oasis to stay put and relax in, you won't be disappointed. Can't wait for vacation next year...we will be back! -John and Vickie

We stayed one night here for a girls trip. This motel was a fantastic little find. The rooms are all so different and decorated tastefully as different themes. The beds were super comfy and room was very clean. Check in was a breeze and the staff were super friendly. The grounds are beautiful. Many places to sit and enjoy the river view. Some rooms have full kitchens to prepare meals, or you can take a 10min car ride to Bridgewater to head to restaurants or shopping. It is also so nice to have a place where you can bring your dog. You can really tell the owners have thought of everything and really made sure to include small details to make your stay more enjoyable. We will definitely all be back. This motel is great for a girls night, couples night, or families! We saw everyone enjoying themselves!! Thanks again for the fabulous stay!

We loved our stay here and wished we had booked for more than one night. The level of service was outstanding and the owners have truly thought of everything guests might need - from a campfire all set up and ready to just drop a match, bug spray on hand, patio blankets and ice & buckets at the ready, a lovely BBQ area, and a lovely set up with plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy. The rooms were very tastefully decorated as well. We will definitely go out of our way to return here in the future!
