We called in for lunch on our way back home. Everything was covid friendly, from using the app to check in and all staff wearing face masks and plenty of sanitizer about. The staff were very good taking our orders and bring our drinks and food. I had the Ploughman's bap with chips it came well presented and really tasty.

On the final night of our family camping trip we called up to book a table looking for a dog friendly pub. From the first telephone booking we had a great welcoming feel. On arrival we were greeted at the door and the instructions relating to social distancing and hygiene were explained to us and we were taken straight through to our table.
The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. I had the Minted lamb burger and I would go as far as saying it was the nicest burger I've ever eaten. The staff we're friendly and we all left very happy and full.
Highly recommended!

We were a party of 4, celebrating a birthday. We arrived and were met at the door by a suitably visored staff member, checked in simply by flashing the app on our phones at a card and were shown to our table.

A large oval table meant we were nicely separate but together. Drinks arrived within minutes and shortly after our afternoon tea.

Sumptuous sandwiches, made with artisan bread, pigs in blankets, cheeses, bara brith, chocolate Swiss roll (with fresh cream!), mince pies and cheese cake. All displayed beautifully with copious amounts of tea served in lovely cast iron tea pots.

Service was excellent, staff were fully masked at all times. At no time did we feel unsure or unsafe. All in all it was a superb treat on a very wet and miserable November afternoon. We will definitely return.

Food Ok second night we chose to eat there. Breakfast quite ok also as long as you don’t mind a few choices on the menu being “not available”.

“Keira” (?) the barmaid loves the sound of her own voice and wants everyone else in the bar/restaurant to hear her too. We spent about £200 in the bar & restaurant on the second night as we (and everyone else) heard her say the night before she was only working until 3 the following day.

We were put off staying to eat and spend the evening there the first night because of her unacceptable volume when talking and cackling to another guest at the bar for over an hour so we departed for Barmouth to eat (The Last Inn, very nice place) She’s needs a quiet word in her ear to either shut up or lower the decibels so that she doesn’t disturb everyone else in the (very echoey) bar/restaurant.

Second night barmaid was much quieter to the point where she could barely manage a grunt to customers and simply gave the impression she didn’t want to be there.

The amount of dogs in the bar restaurant in the evening lends itself more to a campfire environment than a nice restaurant to eat a meal with your partner.

Several dogs barking right through the second evening in every part of the restaurant, usually at each other.

Lot of choices on breakfast menu not available, including blueberries and smoked salmon.

Situated right on main A487/A470 junction so bring your ear plugs because lots of boy racers and heavy lorries on the road. Also no curtains in room, internal Louvre shutters which let a lot of light in even when turned to close.

Will choose somewhere a little more quaint next time. Need to make up their minds whether they’ve got a bar/grill restaurant, a nightclub with light show or an eat-in kennels.

Good bits first - Great location, room OK, food OK, most members of staff friendly.
Stayed for 2 nights at the end of August as part of a motorcycle tour of Wales with friends.

I was told by the manager when reserving rooms that we could park our bikes under a large balcony which we did. On the second night whilst having diner we were confronted at the table by a member of staff, I think a chef, who proceeded to very rudely, aggressively and abusively complain that we were in 'his' parking space. I could not believe that any member of staff, of any hotel, would think it OK to speak to paying guests in that manner.
Unfortunately that was not the end of 'Cross Foxes experience! After paying the bill the following morning (still angry and upset) we carried on our journey. Later that day I was contacted by the hotel (not to offer their apologies as I had naively thought ) but to say that the our waitress from the previous night had forgotten to add our diner and drinks to the bill. Would I give my authorisation to charge the amount to my credit card (details had been given to confirm the original reservation). I made it clear that no payment could be taken until I had spoken to the manager, which was agreed. However, guess what, they took the payment anyway and 2 weeks on I have still not heard from the manager.

These people do not respect their customers. I respectfully suggest that the owners of this establishment take a close look at how the place is being run.

I got the feeling there were major staffing issues during our stay as the same people seemed to be keeping the place afloat.

Our room was not as expected with nowhere to even hang you clothes. I had to ask twice for our water in the room and also some hand soap (Covid times) which never arrived. Our room wasn’t cleaned during our stay (3 nights). On the entrance to our room was a storage area where mops, cups, hangers, ironing board etc were stored - not a nice welcome.

Breakfast was delicious, however you had to find a staff member to serve you first! On our first morning, as a paying guest, I felt that I was an inconvenience. No atmosphere in the lounge, a little uncomfortable. Just some simple background music would’ve helped.

We ate at the restaurant in the evening. The food was nice but service is slow. There is however a note on the menu that warns you of this as food is made from fresh.

When settling the bill at the end of your stay, the iPad is prompted to leave a 7, 12 or 15% tip of your total stay 😳

Sorry, definitely not 5*. Giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming the staffing levels were due to the covid situation, I would’ve otherwise definitely complained.

We had booked a 4 night stay in a superior room. On arrival we were told our room was ready and that it would be refreshed every second day. However, when we entered the room it was not in an acceptable condition. It had not been cleaned, there was thick dust around, the floor had not been hovered and the bed not made. We complained, were asked to wait whilst it was cleaned and were told there was a problem with housekeeping and we would receive compensation. Arriving back on the third day in the evening the room had not been 'refreshed'. Complaining to the manager we were told that the rooms were attended to only if we had requested it. This was not what we were originally told when we arrived. On top of all that our 'superior' room did not even have a wardrobe or any space to hang clothes! After all the problems and excuses we received about staffing and housekeeping we decided to cut our stay short. We were given a discount for one night but we ended up paying for 3 nights although we only stayed for 2 and we did not receive any compensation as promised on check-in.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming.
I decided to have the 10oz sirloin steak as the meat was supplied by the local butchers.
It was the worst steak I have ever had there was a big lengh of gristle running through the middle of it and even the steak knife would not cut through it,I could only eat around 30% of the steak I mentioned it to the waitress who's comment back was we have had alot of complaints about the sirloin being tough and having gristle running through them.
They did give me 50% discount on the steak meal but that meant chips and salad still cost me £11.
My wife's meal was fine as were are starters.
Such a shame as I was really looking forward to this meal on the last day of our holiday

Having travelled past the venue many times en route to cadair idris and the coast, never stayed. As part of our 25th anniversary events we booked in for March 19 and 20. Had a lovely suite, great food (and beer) and friendly but unobstrusive service from the staff. We both enjoyed the location as a great exploring base and were planning to book in again but sadly the Prime Minister made the lockdown announcement late Friday of our stay! Kicked ourselves for not visiting earlier but hope to be back soon when things start to open again.

Modern bistro, lack of atmosphere and loud, egotistic bar staff, he was constantly peacocking. The dish i wanted was off the menu, but wasn't notified until i ordered. Parents had the avocado and king prawn open sandwich. Both arrived sans avocado and when i asked, the waitress huffed off and returned with a dish of diced avocado. Mine stated steak fajitas, on arrival it was 1 wrap to make own fajita, singular. The steak brucheta consisted of beef on ciabata with melted blue cheese over. All in all, over priced and sloppy service. Could be great though.

I'm not sure, but this is primarily a restaurant, so it has far more covers than the maximum number of overnight guests, so I am sure if you gave them a ring, they would accommodate you.

I am not aware that they have a downstairs, on the level, room and there is certainly not a lift. Perhaps a call to them to ask?
