The hotel was well situated for Boca Chica (which is a VERY small town by the way), the room was clean and spacious with good aircon, and the communal areas were clean and tidy. The hammocks were fun. The chef was a very nice man and prepared us vegan dinners both nights we were there just based on what he had in the kitchen, both were very tasty and we gave him a tip direct because we were so pleased. I'd stay here again if I were in Boca Chica (which I probably wouldn't be to be honest as there's not much there. We were looking for somewhere off the tourist track and we certainly found it! The pacific coast is great but if I went again I'd stay at a bigger hotel on one of the islands rather than the mainland as the islands are much more beautiful). The service for food and drinks was exceptionally slow. The first evening we were sat down for almost an hour (I started timing it because it had been so long) and ordered drinks twice before they were brought to us. Food took nearer two hours. We started wondering if it wasn't table service or something, but other people were served (some of them twice) in the time we waited, so who knows what that was about. Breakfast took about half an hour (we were having toast and jam), I think they just rely on one staff member to do everything and it's not enough so once there's more than one table everything grinds to a crawl. We also booked a "tour" through the hotel, fair play it was cheaper than alternatives (not that we had much choice because no one else in town would do business with us direct knowing we were staying at the hotel, we had to book through them!) but on the morning of our tour as we stood waiting we were told that actually there was no such tour available that day and should come back tomorrow. We were leaving tomorrow and explained that, so we were offered a different "tour" for that day (we were sold the standard three islands trip, but were offered one island instead). We accepted as we didn't have much choice, and the rest of the day was a bit weird. We were walked down to the harbour, after a bit of pointing and discussion and handing over of cash we were directed onto a boat that had another couple and a tour guide on. Off we went. What we later discerned from chatting to everyone is that basically that couple were on a private tour from a totally separate company in a different town, and the captain of their boat had accepted some cash in hand to throw us on there with them. Their guide luckily was friendly enough and let us eat some of their food on the island we were at all day (the island was beautiful by the way) but I get the impression he was under no obligation to do so, which was pretty awkward I won't lie! It was all a bit odd. I'd have much rather sorted my own tour, but as I say when we approached tour operators in town they asked where we were staying and wouldn't deal with us when we said. Maybe we should have tried lying!…
This is a great place to stay if you are planning water activities out of Boca Chica. The Rooms are clean and comfortable. The pizza is hand made by Roxy herself. Outstanding! So much fun to return to the hotel after a day on the water. It’s festive and friendly.
We returned for our second great stay! Two years in a row! The rooms are great and the Restaurant/Bar has a good variety of delicious food. Roxy is very accommodating, friendly and there to answer any questions you may have.
During my last stay at Roxy's she made an extra effort to have breakfast prepared earlier than normal so I could go fishing as scheduled. My room was extra clean and Roxy also arranged for me to get a quick shower after I returned from fishing very late the next day. Thanks again and I look forward to staying with you again.
We stayed for 2 days and it was a great experience, everything was neat and clean. The internet works pretty well. The attention is great! They even cooked for us when the kitchen was closed. Try the pizza and ceviche the are really tasty.
