O.T.S. Las Cruces is primarily a biological research station, but it also offers accommodations and meals. The grounds are good for birding and the feeder area by the main building is excellent for attracting a wide range of birds. It is especially good just after sunrise. The rooms are very basic, and not well maintained. We had a double bed...

Wonderful place for birds, and the gardens are amazing, too. Simple, comfortable rooms, with balconies high up in the forest canopy, great for easy birding. Lots of activity at the feeders, too. Good simple food in a relaxed setting. I concur with all the positive reviews.

As a working academic research station, this may not be for everyone, but we loved it. Everything is modern and spotless. Rooms are plain but well appointed, each with a balcony overlooking the forest. Family-style food is solid and well-prepared, but don't expect gourmet. For the price and location, you can't do better.

This is a high-end biological station that feels like a luxury hotel. It has wifi and pretty much every amenity you can expect at a place in town. I was lucky enough to spend a week here as I worked on bird research. The food is excellent, the staff are very helpful and friendly, and you're supporting rainforest conservation and...

Las Cruces Botanical Research Station, 18th March; length of stay, 1 night Rooms big, bright, excellent furniture and furnishings, super shower, one wall of windows overlooking large private balcony with views across treetops to mountains beyond. Fabulous. Food hearty and plentiful; coffee excellent; terrace with its well-stocked bird table a lovely place to sit, overlooking botanical gardens. View from atop...

This is a biological research station and the function as a hotel is slightly secondary. The accommodation is comfortable, comprising spacious bedroom and adequate shower room with hot and cold water, a nice terrace facing out over the trees in the gardens. The Station is at 1200 metres and it gets cold at night but plenty of blankets are provided....

We stayed two nights on a birding trip, and really like the comfortable room and quietness of the reserve. The food, served cafeteria style, was interesting and very good. The trails are excellent, with terrific birdlife, and a great range of colorful tanagers, euphonia and motmots come to the feeders. Our only complaint was that the screens were not adequate...

The very quiet biological station is nicely situated right near a botanic garden (which I recommend visiting) The bedroom, as well as the bathroom were clean and spacious. A generous sized balcony with a great forest view completed the perfection of this great accommodation. The only critical remarks would be the average breakfast (where a greater choice of products would...

We stayed here for 5 nights, walking the trails without a guide (I wonder if the commenter below who complained about not being able to do this unaccompanied may was properly equipped?). The trails ARE potentially dangerous if you're not fit, or if you've never walked in rough conditions in this heat before, or if you don't gave proper boots,...

Las Cruces is run by the Organization of Tropical Studies, and as a Field Station, offer great accommodation: clean, simple and nice. But you're not coming here to stay in your room, the real deal is the Wilson Botanical Garden, and the great diversity of birds. They also have an observation tower, so is a dream place for birdwatchers. Meals...
