A stay at a guest ranch had been on my bucket list for a very long time and I couldn’t have picked a better place than Wettstone Guest Ranch.

Valaurie is one of only two Monty Roberts - trained Horse Professionals in Canada. If you want to learn about natural horsemanship, Wettstone Guest Ranch is your place to go. Valaurie is an amazing teacher, clear in her instructions, patient with her students, eager to share her knowledge and just wonderful with the horses. Horses and students couldn’t be in better hands. The horses are clearly a priority on this ranch, some of them even roam freely on the property and came to visit us at the Chalet with their foals, just wonderful!

The Chalet, the “Beaver part” of it, provided everything we needed. Located right next to the lake and the adjacent crown land, the view through the windows and from the patio (and dock) was amazing. We had a quick peak at the rustic cabin as well, and it looked perfect for one or two people, very cozy! The RV spots were also beautifully located by the lake. The downstairs common/breakfast room is a great place to spend a rainy day with books, TV, DVDs and games. Having access to an EV charger was very convenient for us.

Do yourselves a favour and stay for at least 3 nights (or more!). We stayed a week and between the Join-Up (a la Monty Roberts), horseback riding lessons, trail rides, swimming in the lake, canoeing and kayaking, we didn’t even make it to the biking, hiking, and exploring the area. The ranch is also the perfect place to enjoy a good book, sit by the lake, watch the horses, listen to the Loons (a special treat!), play with the dogs and cats, relax and just “be”.

The Wettstein Family were so wonderful and welcoming, we felt right at home. We recommend the weekly BBQ on Thursdays, a wonderful way to connect with the family (and other guests) and learn more about horses, living in the Cariboo (or Switzerland for that matter) and simply have a great time together over great food. Man spricht Deutsch (and Schwizerduetsch, and French).

Thank you, Diana, Martin, Valaurie and Daniela for an amazing time! We sure hope to be back!

We stayed at the ranch for 2 nights and had a very relaxing/slowing down time. You inevitably meet almost all the members of the host family because they have divided up different tasks between them. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating and always had a good tip to share. The location right on the lake is beautiful and the accommodation is clean and comfortable. Of course we also noticed the sulphurous smell of the water. We drank the water anyway and we didn't die. Overall, the focus is of course less on the inside than on the outside. Surrounded by all kinds of free-roaming animals (horses, dogs, cats) and the breathtaking nature, it is wonderful to relax. There are several fire pits where you can tell stories with other guests about the bear sightings you have seen on your holiday so far. We also booked a horse ride with Valaurie, who showed us nature on horseback with her super relaxed horses (definitely suitable for complete beginners too). Last but not least, I can highly recommend using the canoes that are freely available. If you row out onto the lake at sunrise, you have a truly magical view of the water shrouded in mist.
All in all, it's ideal for animal-loving nature lovers looking for relaxation in peace and solitude. If you value wellness, culture and the latest furniture, you'll probably be better off looking for other accommodation ;).

We spent four wonderful and relaxing days at the Wettstone Guest Ranch. It is a family-run horse ranch and the owners are very hospitable and family-friendly. Our family (with our 12 year old daughter) stayed in an authentic and well euquiped log cabin with great lake view. We enjoyed free kayaking on the lake, riding lesson and great horseback riding as well as a funny barbecue evening.

First impressions were underwhelming: the greeting was indifferent and less than enthusiastic; the broken down dock and pile of rubble with exposed screws and nails beside the newer dock was a danger especially for kids; two of the three canoes had holes and cracks; the tap water smelled and was difficult for the kids to drink.

However, the place grows on you and by the end of the 5 night stay everyone loved the place. Valaurie and Daniela really make a terrific team and provided our family with a great experience with the horses. They were friendly and professional and flexible with plans. Awesome. The lake and surrounding areas have plenty to see and do during non-horse riding times.

The grill night was basic and probably overpriced. Salad was just lettuce and dessert was a cookie the size of a quarter. The steak was perfectly cooked.

Paying at checkout was an odd and embarrassing experience. I’ve never been asked to tip on the cost of the room itself. I have no problem tipping for the services like trail rides and housekeeping, but all costs were rolled into one and I could not get past the tip function. I ended up tipping twice as much as I should have which is a substantial amount.
Still bothers me to this day.

Having said all that, my family wants to book again for next summer. As I said, the place grows on you.

Very cool ranche at a small lake with a lot of horses and other livestock. We had booked rooms for 2 nights, but ended up staying 2 more at one of the RV sites. Ameneties range from very good to an outhouse (depending on what you book), and the hosts are absolutely wonderful ! Jason is great to deal with, Diana makes the best breakfast and Valaurie and Daniela take care of the trail rides on horseback and/or dogtraining. We enjoyed the interaction, going to the local rodeo, eating steak at Thursday's grill night, kayaking and swimming on/in the lake and just drinking beer enjoying the view. It is not close to much of anything, but that made it so attractive to us. If you enjoy an outdoor lifestyle and nice people, this is the right place.

We stayed as a family of 7 for 4 nights recently in the rustic ranch house and trapper cabin. The accommodation is basic but clean and comfortable - but the peace and beauty of the ranch is what makes this place special. Our favourite stay during our 3 week trip - lovely memories of time spent by the lake, horse rides and enjoying some peace and quiet. Missing those beautiful sunrises and sunsets and listening to the loons!

Our room was very spacious with lots of storage and the bed was very comfortable.
The view from the dock on the lake is magnificent. I loved bringing my coffee there and enjoying the view.
We also enjoyed kayaking on the lake.
We learned a lot from Valaurie on our horse lessons and we had a daily delicious breakfast served up by Diana.
We will be back 😊

Wettstone Ranch exceeded all my expectations. The lakeside setting was extraordinarily peaceful, the host owners were extremely helpful, friendly, and giving. The owners daughter runs the trail rides and the trail ride experience did not disappoint. The other daughter trains dogs. They also sell fresh eggs and give away fresh veggies from their abundant garden. The kids played outside the entire time. From the moment we rolled up to the moment we pulled away, everything superb and we will be back again. Next time, for grill night on Thursday night! Thank you Diana and Martin, Valaurie, Daniella, and Jason.

We stayed at the ranch for 2 nights at one of their RV sites at the lake! It was beautiful with all the animals around and we felt very welcomed by the whole family. It was a very warm and nice atmosphere throughout our stay! The trailride was lovely and we really enjoyed the calm horses and the view! We also used the free kayaks to go on a round on the lake, very nice, and shared the fire pit with other guests and the family. Thanks for having us! Highly recommend!

We took our two grandchildren here in July. The highlights were the trail ride, the Thursday night grill and kayaking on the lake. It was such a treat to hear the loons out on the lake and see the horses grazing right outside our windows.
