Lacking promised amenities & service. Booked this hotel for a few reasons 1) pool (bonus was that it had a slide) 2) close to the skytrain (100% fantastic on this - could not be more convenient) 3) food - VERY VERY upsetting if you have children. When I booked it checked all the boxes. Then about 2 weeks before checking in I get an email that unfortunate the pool/slide would be closed for maintenance- not good. Then when I arrive - buffet is now closed Monday-Wednesday- the ENTIRE time we are there. Restaurant also closed... So i knew there was a food court - well yes - but it is located IN the casino & of course no children allowed in. So there are NO food options for breakfast or lunch & only the lounge for supper. They do offer a very limited room service menu - but doesn't even start until 8 am - and with children you need an earlier option. Even if you get delivery- the main hotel door are LOCKED until 7 am - so you can't even have food delivery to the hotel from 10:30pm to 7 am. Please see attached pictures. NOTHING was offered (i asked) to help compensate the pool being closed, no food options etc. Plus they said due to COVID restrictions- this is Mid-May and basically no restrictions left at all anywhere - no house keeping. Zero- no garbage picked up, no stocking of toilet paper, no beds being made etc NOTHING. Yet no reduction in price?!? You can gamble 24/7 there with no masks required- yet getting your room garbage emptied when you pay HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of dollars oer night is a nope. I think this would be a good option IF pool was open, daily housekeeping was honored, and food options were opened. Very disappointed stay.…
This was the second time that I have stayed at the River Rock within the past 1-1/2 mos. Both times free rooms were provided by the Casino. 1st time was a 1 night stay and this last time a 2 night stay. First stay was relatively quick being only 1 night and we did not use the pool. Only glitch was at Curves Lounge for dinner (did not receive an item I ordered)..no biggie, let it go. Stayed in the West Wing 7th flr. Did notice room furniture was very outdated but hey, it was free! 2nd stay again on West Tower 7th flr - 1st disappointment - while checking in I mentioned how we were looking forward to using the pool the next day, reply - sorry the pool is closed for maintenance. No mention of this was provided when booking or on web site. Upon entering our room I noticed quite a strong deodorized scent and thought nothing of it at the time. We again went for dinner at Curves and this time they forgot our Caesar/Kale salad, disappointment. Called waitress over and because we were nearly finished our entree, told her not to bring the salad. Received bill and left hefty tip regardless of the salad not arriving. Went over to the casino. I played the slots for hours, not a single coffee cart came around the 8 hours I was there (I like to gamble..lol) Luckily hubby was around for awhile and he was able to get me a couple of drinks from the bar. At one point I had my service button on for over 1/2 hr till an attendant arrived to put my machine on a hold while I went to get myself a drink and use the toilet. I wasn't happy with that. Hubby came down to casino to see how I was doing and I asked him to get me a drink (diet Coke/Pepsi). He came back saying they had run out of Diet Pepsi at the bar, they had been pouring it from bottles earlier, none on tap (are you kidding me?) Hubby mentioned he had tired to use the washroom by the bar but because of the urine stench had to find another washroom. He mentioned it to bartender that they should get someone to do a clean in the washroom and his reply was, "He is not the cleaner", disgusting. It was getting late in the early morning and I managed to get a slot attendants attention. I ranted (in a nice way) about the service in the Casino, the worst I had ever experienced in any Casino I have visited. She explained to me since Covid and reopening they were short staffed please voice my concern to the floor manager. She came over and after talking with her she immediately sent a coffee cart over and sent someone to get me a bottle of Diet Pepsi (the bar was actually closed at this time). The poor girl on the coffee cart. They only have one cart to service the whole floor of the casino, what a joke. After all this, got up to our room about 4am. Back to the deodorizer scent - It was so strong that I actually lay in bed for 1-1/2 hrs with the sheet drawn up over my nose while getting a mild headache. I called front desk and was asked it I could wait till 8am when the manager arrived so she could help me out. About 8:15 (still not sleeping) I received a call from Stephanie the hotel manager asking if I would like another room, the hotel was fully booked but they managed to get a room for us in the East Tower We had to quickly get dressed and pack up our luggage. She was to meet us at check-in and take us to the room. She was unavailable when we got downstairs. We went up to the new room, thank goodness it was fresh with just a very light scent. About an hour later she called asking if the room was satisfactory and that was it. After all this, tried to get some shut eye but just tossed and turned. Hubby and I agreed we would not be be coming back to this Hotel/Casino ever again even if I was offered a free stay coupon through the mail. We both could no sleep so about noon went downstairs to the Casino. We were both exhausted and about 4pm decided to have something to eat. We took escalator to top to check out the buffet, we just wanted to see what they had to offer. We were aware it didn't open till 5pm but thought they might have a listing or photos of what they offered. Gates were closed and no information posted about buffet. Back down we went and asked waitress at Curves if she new what they might offer at the buffet, she knew nothing. The line-up at check in was very long and we did not have the patience to wait in line to ask about the buffet. We went back to our room and immediately fell asleep till the next morning with just enough time to check out. What a joke all around about this experience. Check out Cascades Casino in Langley instead of visiting this hotel. Better yet, cross the border and check out Tulalip Casino/Hotel, it is the best.…
Disappointed the pool was unexpectedly closed during our stay. No coffee maker in our room, thankfully room service was able to find one and deliver to us. This Hotel was in a good location and the rooms were clean.
We rode the train from the airport, and it's a little much to go up and down the stairs several times with luggage. The room was nice and clean, and we had a nice stay. There's only one restaurant open late though, in the resort, which was a bit of a drawback.
We were really looking forward to our stay but a few glaring set backs really makes me question if I would go back. The room was dirty, dusty tables, what I assume is blood on the shower curtain, dirty grout in the shower, dust bunnies hanging from the air vents, dirty light in the shower. Then at 11:30 pm the fire alarm went off, I don't blame the hotel, but no one bothered to explain anything. After standing outside and in the lobby for nearly an hour we were allowed back, but one of the elevators wasn't working. The next day while using the other elevator the door would not open after reaching the lobby, after pushing the open door button a few times it finally opened. Concerned that this might be an issue that would get worse, we told the clerk in the lobby, who literally could not have cared any less. Just a response of hmmm ok. Other issues were the pool which can only be accessed via the main building lower lobby but doesn't have any towels so you have to walk soaking wet through the grand entrance, as there's never any towels. There is a sign saying to call the front desk if there are no towels, but there is no phone to do so... Despite signs saying not to use room towels, just take a room towel, everyone there was. The room service menu prices are subject to fine print charges which seemed deceptive. + $4.00 + 15% on top of every item why not just print the actual price? Also disappointing was that Sea Harbour Seafood restaurant attached to the hotel serves shark fin dishes which is very surprising as I thought this was banned in Canada, after checking online we found out that the restaurant is listed by the Animal welfare institute for this reason. I am not sure if this restaurant is owned or partnered with the hotel, but it is inside the River Rock Resort Hotel building directly behind the check in on the lobby floor so I feel the resort bears some responsibility. Overall, Richmond is a great area, there were good connections to transit, but keep in mind that this resort has two hotels, the River Rock Resort and Casino, and the "Hotel at River Rock" which is across the street. I can only assume that The Hotel at River Rock is clearly a second tier expansion to the original resort and just does not get the same care and prioritisation, as it did not live up to our expectations or the advertisements posted about being Western Canada's only 4 diamond resort.…
