I stayed at the Canmore Downtown Hostel for 6 nights from Sept.23 - Sept.29, 2020 as a solo traveler in an 8 bed mixed dorm with a private bathroom.

The hostel was brand new (built in 2019), modern, clean and comfortable. It was located in the Shops of Canmore area on the second floor of one of the buildings along the Bow Valley Trail. There were a selection of restaurants, cafes, and shops in this area, which was very convenient (including an amazing curry restaurant called Mad Dogs right next door and Beamers Cafe for delicious drinks). There was a large parking lot if you have a car. The hostel was a short drive to the centre of town, or within walking distance as well.

The hostel had a beautiful, cozy, spacious and welcoming lounge next to the lobby with a large couch, tables and bean bag chairs, along with a TV (with Netflix and cable). There were floor to ceiling windows on all sides with stunning views of the mountains! This was a great space to hang out in the evenings. Due to COVID, masks are required in the common areas, however, most people were not wearing them but everyone did keep a good distance from each other. The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. The guest kitchen was open from 5 am to 10:30 pm and had pots, cooking utentils, etc. You have to request a plate set from the front desk and then return it at the end of your stay to receive the deposit back. No continental breakfast is offered. There was a large fridge for storing your food items and lockers for dry goods (make sure to label them).

There was a long hallway leading to the dorms, which were identified by different letters. I stayed in dorm H which had a private washroom and shower. The dorms only had half-capacity due to COVID, so I shared the room with 3 other people. The dorm was spacious, new and charming. I liked the colourfully painted bunk beds and the large windows with mountain views. Each bed had a privacy curtain, shelf, outlets and USB plug ins, lamp and hangers. The lockers were large enough to fit multiple backpacks (bring your own lock).

The front desk staff were always friendly and helpful. You could purchase or rent bear spray for reduced prices at the hostel, which was good to have when hiking.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hostel and it's one that I will return to when I am back in Canmore. There are plenty of things to do in the area and this town is a great base for exploring and hiking. Kananaskis and Banff are both a close drive for fantastic hiking trails! I prefer Canmore to Banff, as it has a more relaxed vibe, there are less people, and it feels less commercialized and more just like a normal town in the mountains. There are a great selection of restaurants and cute shops in town to explore. Would highly recommend!

I stayed here for a night to get away from the city. I liked this hostel because it was away from the noise. The dorms are co-ed but they added curtains around each bed for privacy which is a great touch. Each little cubby bed has a light too so no need to disrupt everyone. The kitchen is clean and large and the common area is functional with tables to work at, a couch and tv to lounge and some cozy bean bag chairs.

This hostel was a nice Home away from Home.
I've been here for about 3 weeks. It's in a beautiful location of Canmore, tons of restaurants, and stores are close by. The hostel is big with lots of rooms for everyone. The employees have been super kind and nice to me. Helping me with anything they can. I appreciated it. (Thanks for the tip in doing a 180 on my snowboard)

Very Clean
The employees kept this hostel very clean. Especially during this COVID pandemic. I always seen them cleaning through out the day.

WIFI works great
Never lost connection to their WIFI, and it works great all over the hostel.

Atmosphere is relaxing
Beautiful high ceiling in the living room with wall windows that over looks the mountains. The other travellers living here are compassionate and considerate. The living room is very spacious. In the living room, Ive been working on my education classes and reading my books without being bothered or distracted.
Also this hostel has a Great atmosphere if you want to have some good conversations with other travellers.
Or they have a good selection board games, or shows/movies to watch if people want to do that.
Hostel is very clean
Living room, bathrooms, bedrooms and the kitchen are very clean.
Kitchen is a good size with lots of area to cook.

Bedrooms have lockers to store your stuff.
Beds are comfortable.
Each bed has electric ports and curtains if you don't want to be bothered.

Laundry room
They have a laundry room here if you need to wash some clothes.

Would totally come back!
Thanks for making me feel so welcome!!

The hostel is clean and stylish but the concept of having everything be co-ed is ill-conceived and poorly executed. Having both men and women in the bedrooms is challenge enough, but having two mixed bathrooms when they could just as easily have separate facilities for both genders to shower and use the toilet is preposterous. Many women looked extremely uncomfortable whenever a man walked in and I don’t blame them. Out of respect, I tried to avoid using it at all. They could at least have better shower stalls since you have to take all your stuff in and get changed in a tiny cubicle with no seat or shelf nor room to turn around. The fact that the place is plastered with posters urging you to call 911 immediately if you see a certain man in the building shows how problematic the setup is. For me, it was a giant hassle to hide in my bed waiting for privacy to change etc but for women they don’t even get a basic sense of safety.

I was very impressed with the accessibility of the hostel. We stayed in the barrier free private room which contained a bunk bed, and an attached accessible washroom. The washroom contained a large roll in shower with a fold down shower bench and a roll under sink; it was fantastic, nice and bright and clean. The room was huge, and there was a lot of space to maneuver. The room was located right by the elevator, so it felt like we had our own private entrance. The bed was super comfortable, and the whole facility was new and clean. I would highly recommend it to any other wheelchair travelers. The location of the hostel is awesome, and the underground parking is a bonus. My only minor issue was the bed was a bit high, so it was a bit of an uphill transfer from my wheelchair, it was doable for myself, but others may find it challenging. All in all, I was extremely impressed, and I will definitely be back! Very happy to see an accessible hostel option with such great amenities!

I stayed 10 days at Canmore Downtown Hostel. This is one of my best experiences in a hostel, and I have stayed in many all over the world. The hostel made all the living arrangements easy: you have a big kitchen, your own space on the shelf / fridge to keep food, and the rooms are spacious, with ample storage. Cleanliness and friendliness are its top attributes. With COVID, the staff are extra vigilant and clean the common areas (kitchen and bathroom) many times a day. It was cleaner than my house. Friendliness: a shoutout to Rachel who made me feel right at home. She was attentive and motivated to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Lastly, good vibes about the place. Everyone got along with each other. At dinner you sit with dreamers and travelers from different places. You cook and chat, make new friends. It is a trip of a life time, and I cannot recommend this hostel enough. There's a reason it has top reviews. Don't search any longer, this is your place.

The hostel was extremely clean and well cared for. The common space is well-decorated and a great place to relax and meet new friends. The beds have a privacy curtain, a small closet for personal items, a personal light next to the bed, outlet, and coat/towel hangers. The staff is a group of fun, kind, and helpful people. There are also several restaurants, cafes, liquor store, and a convenience store nearby for essentials.

I'm not often tempted to leave reviews for anything. But this is one of those times that I need to let the world know. This is an amazing hostel. Its ridiculously clean and new, and very friendly staff. Because Canmore is A. expensive and B. cool, there are many permanent and long term guests that are very friendly/inclusive and make the hostel feel more cohesive and family-like than I've seen previous.

I've also never experiences so many nights where one guests wants to cook for everybody, I've had Indian feasts, Italian feasts, Sudanese feasts, Canadian Poutine feasts, just guests constantly want to make a feast and have everyone help them cook and eat it. its so fun! Lastly, there is a TV/Guitar/games/books in the main room and strangers are constantly bonding there. I will have great memories from this hostel!

Very clean and relatively quiet. I slept okay and was super tired. I would definitely stay again.

I recommend bringing your own non-breakable dishes and utensils to eat with. They collect damage deposit and you have to ask for these at the reception if you don’t bring your own.

I think the receptionist did a great job taking care of everyone and everything.

I stayed at Canmore Downtown Hostel long-term and it was one of the most memorable times I have ever experienced. This was only the second hostel I have ever stayed at. The first one was an old, low-quality hostel and the one night i spent there was terrible, but then Canmore Downtown Hostel is modern and clean and during my stay, it felt like a home to me. The building itself is conveniently located im terms of public transport, outdoor activities, gyms, food and shopping.

The hostel was newly opened when I first checked in and it has everything! A greay view of the landscape, a lounge with comfortable seating, games, a world map, books and a TV with channels and Netflix. Just like the lounge, the kitchen is great for socializing too. The kitchen has pots, pans, stoves, an oven, a blender, kettles, microwaves and more and great storing options for your food. There is also a laundry room further down the hall.

The staff is welcoming, friendly and they are always happy to help. They were so nice to me during my stay! I broke the door to my locker in my dorm at some point. I went straight to the front desk and informed them that I want them to take a look at the damage and I immediately told them I would pay for any damage. The staff said that they would try to fix it first, but couldn't promise that they would succeed. They did fix it afterall and I was therefore not required to pay. Honesty, genuine care and respect can make a big difference in these situations.

Some dorms have private bathrooms, while other dorms are required to use the common bathrooms. The dorms are eight-person dorms. The beds are bunk beds and they are quite comfortable.

My stay was prior to the pandemic. There were alot of people there, but it was never too crowded. I got to meet some awesome people and I often dream my way back.

If you are looking for a hostel in the Rockies, Canmore Downtown Hostel is the ultimate choice!
