I have been coming here for over 15 years. It used to be run as a budget hotel with a front desk, a hot tub and indoor pool table. Yup, those were the days....

Now it has mostly taken the form of airbnb and you book through websites like expedia/booking etc. But you can still book through its own website, but you do not have a lot of units to choose from. If you are looking for a 2+ bedroom condo this is definitely a place to check out. But it is starting to look its age. There is definitely no onsite management and so any issues are dealt with via phone. On the plus side, it has a full kitchen including stove and full sized refrigerator. These are a must have for those vacationing on a budget.

We stayed one night and had a lower unit. Steps up to the entry to the unit and steps down to the unit. So, if you have a lot of luggage, not good. The unit we were in was very dated, although clean. I didn’t think it was appropriate though, during Covid, to ask guests to wipe down surfaces when they leave. Seems to me that’s management’s job as departing guests can’t be required or relied upon to do that.

This was my second time at the Canadian Rockies Chalets and it did not disappoint. There was so much space and the suite had everything we needed! The train didn't bother us at all and we were on the ground floor. The heavy-footed folks upstairs with their little ones was more disruptive than the train running outside. The views alone are worth staying here. No, the units aren't the newest, but they're also not too expensive. I'd come back again and again as I much prefer this to staying in Banff (which is only about 15-20 minutes away)

Money grabbers. Charge $150.00 for putting keys in the return box by office. There is no clear direction of where the keys go…. Refunded me $100 but still charged me $50 because they said a cleaner could not get in. Stay elsewhere were you can trust.

A friend and I rented unit #124 as a VRBO here for a long weekend. The unit is small, but plenty large enough for what we needed, and gave us a small kitchen, dining table and living area for less than we would have paid for two hotel rooms. As long as one is reasonably able-bodied and fit, the Canadian Rockies Chalets is walking distance to just about anywhere in Canmore, at least on that side of the highway. One night we walked to Goucho's for dinner and stopped at Safeway on the way back. Bear in mind, parking at the Chalet is very limited, the later your arrival, the less likely you will find a spot (and the more difficult it will be to maneuver in and out of any remaining spots). If you are a light sleeper with an early bedtime, be aware the walls are very thin so the fewer the vacancies (ie, weekends in the winter when units are full of skiers and probably any time in the summer months), the more likely you will hear footsteps and voices from adjoining units. But we enjoyed our stay here very much and would totally stay here again if we return to visit Banff, or Lake Minnewanka, or Lake Louise, or any other destinations in the Banff area again.

Do not be fooled by the photos and exterior. My family and I had the misfortune of staying in unit 140 this past weekend. Many of our comments are the same as the reviewers below regarding mold in the kitchen, the area rug in the living area to cover stained carpet, etc.

I've stayed in cleaner hostels and it's clear the owners do not care about the state of their units and only the $$ coming in nightly.

The kitchen has the barest minimum of things needed to cook a meal. Need scissors? Nope. Need a baking sheet? No can do. Oh, and good luck with the stovetop as only one element works.

Years of built up grime in the bathrooms, hairs that weren't ours in the bedrooms and bathrooms, grunge in the grout. Stained carpet, dirty walls. This place needs some serious TLC.

Good walkable location but it's right beside the train tracks. Bring earplugs if you do still decide to stay here.

The room was not clean, I had several black hairs, both long hair and pubic hair stuck all over the shower, dirt eand grime on the doors along the edge and around the door knob where people had obviously touched over and over. There were yellow drip marks down the walls in the bathroom that dropped down to the baseboard covered in grime.
And Finger prints and hand prints on the walls.

Their covid/cleaning procedure is to provide the guest with cleaner and tell you to wipe down high touch areas. I didn’t realize I would be cleaning all high touch areas upon arrive, then the toilet (found public hair there too) and the shower before use.

This was an upgraded room which really doesn’t mean much of anything, it had three bedrooms with doors instead of the unit I was booking that had the master as a loft bedroom. That’s basically it.

When I emailed about these complaints, my first email was ignored and once I emailed again the owner did come apologize and offered the cleaner to come in and clean it better... but I had already done that so we could use the place in the meantime.

They offered me a $50 discount on my next stay, and even stated in the email that this was their way of ensuring I return.

When I said I’d like the discount on this stay they simply said that’s not possible considering I already had a free upgrade and a $35 discount.

So I emailed again to clarify that I didn’t deserve a clean room because I had a discount or upgrade. I will only get a discount due to the lack of cleanliness if I choose to stay here again.

There are better places to stay in Canmore for sure.

Response from Canadian Rockies Chalets, General Manager at Canadian Rockies Chalets
Responded Mar 1, 2022
We are truly sorry that your experience at our hotel wasn't what you expected. Our chalets go through thorough inspections before being occupied by our guests and the way you found yours is certainly not our standard of service. We truly expect to make it up for this past stay on your next visit. Safe travels.

If the location is great, the condo itself is very uncomfortable. The bed I have no boxsprings With mattress laying directly on springs, That makes for very noisy and uncomfortable beds. In addition the bathroom door do not lock, the train goes through town about 30 feet away from the back window, they are broken chairs on the deck, and one of the bedroom as a wall that doesn’t reach the ceiling so if people are watching TV downstairs, you cannot sleep, I will never come back here, it was one of the most uncomfortable beds I’ve had in years

Our stay at the chalets was awesome! Very clean and it had all the amenities we needed. All the dishes were clean and in the dishwasher when we arrived. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom was very clean as well! We brought our dogs and they were very welcomed here. Good price point for the long weekend and overall a quiet and cozy experience.

Nice and spacious. We booked 2 chalets for 10 of us. Having a full kitchen was convenient. Very good location - close enough to go to Banff National park and lots of places to eat and shop in the town.
