We are a party hostel that has 15 rooms that consist of a managers room, 5 private rooms with shared dorm bathrooms and 2 private room with ensuite and 7 dorm rooms which consist of 6, 7 and 8 bed shared mixed dorm and one female only dedicated dorm rooms which are all shared dorm bathrooms. We were built in 1890 have done an extensive renovation but were limited what we could do as we are a protected Canadian historical site we are in between a modern but rustic look. Some of are rooms are complete with bar boards and or wood panelling for that nostalgic feel. We are a party hostel so we do have a later the normal quiet time, our quiet times start between midnight and 330am we also are a 18+ only hostel so everyone staying at the hostel have to be over the age of 18yrs of age as we are party hostel and can get pretty wild in the especially during the summer months when we host events in the bar below until late in to the night/morning. We hope this outline helps in making your decision and help you deciding if our property march e what you are looking for during your visit to Canmore.

10/10 recommend visiting Canmore. 10/10 do not recommend staying at this hostel. The towel I was provided with had a stain on it and I had no pillow on my bed, not that I could tell anyone this because there’s no staff around. Woke up this morning to 4 toilets with not one single bit of toilet paper. Luggage storage is advertised but it says on the email to text a number if you need it, which is fine but not when no one replies to the text or answers the phone when you call. I am now stuck with all my things for 5 hours. Not impressed! I refused to shower because they looked like they hadn’t been cleaned for a few days, which is disgusting considering how many people use them. I’ve stayed in quite a few hostels in Canada and this is 100% the worst one so far.

There was a lot of dust under the bed. I did a breakfast in the kitchen and there was dust everywhere. Fridges full. No soap to do the dishes. I understand it is a hostel for young but there is some washing that could be done. Otherwaise it's easy to go to, there's sometime free parking and the instructions for our bedroom door were clear. Don't be surprise if you find someone sleeping in the lobby each morning.

I stayed at this hostel with my wife and six other friends who needed one night to stay in Canmore before we headed out on a five day hiking trip. We got a room with four bunk beds (perfect for the eight of us) and we met some really nice people from all over the world who were staying there. The kitchen was more than sufficient for our needs (but I don't know how old some of the condiments were in the refrigerators). The (men's) bathroom had three showers and included shampoo/body wash/conditioner and we were provided with big fluffy towels from the resident manager, Trevor. The stay would have been pleasant, but Trevor had other plans. Upon arrival we were told by Trevor that it was a "party hostel" and that it would get very noisy later and all through the night. Everyone there seemed quiet and were either eating or on their phones or laptops or chatting with other travellers. Trevor spent the whole evening trying to encourage visitors to "party" with him (because he "never parties alone") and he was freely handing out liquor and beer to anyone who would drink with him. He was drunk by 9:30 PM and luckily I got fresh towels from him before he got too drunk, because he was nowhere to be found in the morning. Trevor "recruited" about four or five other guys to drink and party with him and the group and Trevor spent the whole night going in and out of the hostel and bar on the main floor yelling, screaming and swearing. I got about one hour of sleep as a result. In the morning there were open half-empty rum bottles laying around in the kitchen area and the whole hostel was a mess. Sober Trevor was nice to deal with, but he became very loud and annoying with each beer. Totally unprofessional. I wouldn't be surprised if his behavior ends up causing this establishment to lose its liquor licence. Don't stay here if you want to get more than one hour of sleep. Thanks for ruining my hiking trip Trevor!

Hello Eric, thank you for reviewing our property and feedback on your stay with us. Yes we are a bit noisier then most hostels we agree, we try and encourage guest to bring ear plugs and be transparent as possible with guest on this before they make their booking and deciding to stay at our property. We hope to see you and your friends again in the future and continued business together. Cheers! 🍻

Honestly the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. The bathrooms weren’t cleaned properly, if cleaned at all. The common area was a mess, fridge and bins overflowing. Our room was way too small to have six people in it, the sheets weren’t cleaned properly, there were holes in the walls. We had a terrible roommate (not the fault of the hostel) but we couldn’t find the manager to ask to move rooms. I’ve stayed in many hostels all over the world, and this is by far the worst.

Stayed in the "private" room for one night. We had booked for two nights but got out as fast as we could. The host Trevor was drunk from the time we arrived at 10pm until we left at 7am. The noise from the cramped common area right beside us did not stop all night. We climbed over passed out people on the way in and the way out. It is basically a frat house. But with adults who should know better. Trevor seemed to have his buddies partying it up all night with him even though they were not guests. The place reeked of beer and weed. I did not feel safe hearing the host yelling and swearing at guests who told him to quiet down his party at 5am. I have stayed in many hostels but this was by far the worst.

Hello Lo22222222, thank you for your feedback and reviewing our property about your stay with us. Sorry you didn’t feel comfortable during your stay with us and me and my friends were a burden for your visit and stay at our property, we do advertise we are a party hostel and we have a later then usual quiet time compared to most properties which we are transparent as possible on the property details. I feel you should come back and visit with us as it has been awhile and things have change at our hostel but we do have 330am quiet time Friday to Sunday so maybe a Monday to Thursday visit with a noise restriction at midnight would be best for you for your stay, 330am all summer long though as we are above a bar and everyday is a weekend in the summers here the Canmore hotel party hostel. 😊

This hostel is located on the main street in Canmore and it is close to everything and also to Banff. The beds are really comfortable and they have sockets to charge your devices. Each bed has a curtain, so you will have a bit of privacy even in the dorms. There are a lot of washrooms and showers to use.

The only thing that I didn't like was how loud it was at night. Even though the listing says that there is live music at the pub downstairs we were not expecting that it would be that loud. It felt that we were having the concert in our dorm.

However, the concert end pretty early and we had a great stay! I would stay here again!

Booked a room here for my daughter and niece while they were travelling to Banff. Incompetantly run.
1. Check in. "This is a party hostel. Here are some earplugs if you want to try to sleep." Okay I guess I'll give him credit for handing out ear plugs and it's a hostel so yeah some partying is to be expected, but being an $#! about it?
2. Checked in to the all girls room to find 2 men bunking there. Manager's response, "Yeah we don't really do that. I should take it off the website."
3. Returned the second night to find out they had given away their beds. Desk clerk goes to wake manager who at 4pm is still sleeping off last night. His response, "Yeah, we overbooked. What do you want me to do about it." After pressing him to fix it he found two "available" beds. What he really did was kick 2 other people out of their beds.
4. 3rd night. Checked into a hotel to find a number of other people from the hostel who had gotten sick of it or who's bed he had given away.
Save yourself the hassle. Just get a hotel to start with.

Hello astrvlr, thank you for your review and feedback on your stay at our property. We have changed a lot of things around the hostel and have made it more automated so there is less of a work load on myself as back in the day having to clean the whole hostel do laundry wash floor dorm bathrooms make reservations deal with complaints and then write out and make about 50keys a day and have to wait everyday for all the guest to check in was a heck of a lot of work but like I said more automated seamless and hassle free and we only have one female only dorm very strict regulations on that so we hope to see you again. Rember though we are a party hostel and everyone that stays here has to be over the age of 18+

I felt more comfortable in the hostels in China as a solo female traveller. Do not stay here if you enjoy sleep or drug-free environments. The linens are soft and clean, the spaces are tidy and the location is unbeatable.

They have zero noise restrictions and allow for all-night, which you won't know until you check-in and cannot receive a refund at that point. It was not a place for me and I will not recommend it or ever return to it. I drove back to Calgary each night as it was preferable to staying in that hostel.

Hello CommWinds, thank you for your review and feedback on your stay at our property. Sorry thing weren’t as clear and or transparent when you booked with us at this time, we have made lots of changes improvement and upgrades to our reservation system and property alike. Yes we are a noisier property but we try and make guest well aware of this before choosing to stay with us and making their reservation. If your looking for a place to mingle and party with others then we definitely your place and encourage you to stay with us but if this seems like it be an issue or problematic we highly don’t recommend this place for your stay during your visit as we are a louder property.

One star feels polite. The location of this hostel is great but the hostel itself is gross.
- Fruit flies and insects all over the small kitchen surfaces and items
- Weird smell in the overall hostel, I know the building is old but…
- Not convinced the bed linen was washed before we arrived
- Crumbs and dirt everywhere encouraging pests
- Other guests mostly seemed nice but just a weird atmosphere, feels like some dodgy uncles apartment
- The overall vibe is kinda spooky, like something out of a Stephen King novel.

I would highly recommend you pay the extra couple bucks and check into another hostel in town, because this place really put a damper on our time in Canmore.

I would not stay at the Canmore Hostel UNLESS you're not into sleeping and more looking for a room to keep your things while you stay out all night. The rooms were clean. The bathrooms - they were ok. The price of this place continues to drop, and now I know why its so affordable (but wouldn't go as far as to say a good value). It took until midnight for the stoned and drunk staff and guests to even start to quiet down on a Monday night so that other guests on the same floor could go to sleep. We only got a few hours of sleep before it started again at 6am. Trevor the host was not of his right mind when he "registered" us from the messy kitchen table/front office. He turns his phone off at midnight, so hopefully you won't have an emergency or lock yourself out of your room if you go to the bathroom at night. I have stayed at a lot of hostels, and have never had the negative experience that I had at this one. I would read reviews from this site and others before making your decision. He runs this hostel in a way that validates his own lifestyle. We also went to eat at the restaurant downstairs, and waited...and waited....and then left when no one came to get our order. After reading the reviews, seemed we had dodged a bullet.

Hello apharis, thank you for your feedback and reviewing our property. We agree at the beginning our property wasn’t as transparent about the atmosphere or the effects the bar has on the hostel above, we have made lots of changes around here and have a more transparent property description. We have also made some changes and upgrades around the hostel and encourage you and your friends to visit Canmore and stay our property as we feel the changes make for both a more comfortable and enjoyable stay alike after a day of exploring the mountains and our town. We look forward to your continued business and hope you visit Canmore again soon. 😊
