We love this place. We just stayed for Easter weekend but it was not our first visit. It is like being in your own home. A very rustic feel, beautiful beds and so comfy, a cozy fireplace and right in the middle of Canmore. Every morning you wake up to the smell of fresh bread, muffins and quiche. You can go to the kitchen and sit and eat or take your breakfast up to your room. Each room gets an individual loaf of home made sourdough with butter and jam, deliciously healthy muffins, kombucha, home made muesli and other treats. Fresh orange juice and coffee are also available. The bathrooms have all natural soaps, hand creams and shampoos which smell divine. The staff are so friendly and happy to help with any questions. We love this place.

I was taking an avalanche course and needed a base for a few nights with easy access to the mountains. I have stayed many times and the Paintbox Lodge never disappoints. Quiet, cosy and always welcoming. The huge tub and an abundance of hot water was especially appreciated at the end of each day. I had the smallest room and an abundance of 'kit' but there were endless places for storage and hanging clothes and jackets. The small details of thoughtfulness make this a gem. The new rules around Covid were followed and although it's different every effort has been made to make guests feel welcome and safe. The breakfast was delicious and generous. Thank you for a fabulous stay! Highly recommended!

Everything about the Paintbox Lodge was delightful for a spring break 3 day stay. The room was comfortable and quaint, all was very safe at the lodge and it was a great space for 2 of us to get away and be in Canmore surrounded by the beauty of the mountains. We appreciated the environmental considerations by the lodge as well as the organic (overall) breakfasts that were delicious. We loved the coffee machine too!
Thanks for a great stay.

To Tanism, A big thank you goes to you. By staying with us, you are supporting small and sustainable businesses. We are delighted that you enjoyed your getaway. Thomas and I are very grateful to live in and run a business in Canmore. This privilege comes with a responsibility. We incorporate the big little things into everyday hotel life. Waste is reduced by using mason jars for the single serve breakfast items. The organic flour used in our baking is from Highwood Crossing. The farmer delivers it! The eggs and produce is from organic box. Coffee is locally roasted and organic. Our employees have a fund to have their bicycles fixed so they can enjoyed human powered commuting. Some of the initiatives are not visible, like the solar panels on our roof that provide 50% of the Paintbox energy needs. The remaining 50% is wind powered through Bullfrog energy. Come back in the summer when we have our local herb garden growing! Again, thank you for staying with us.

Really cute hotel, with great attention to details including local soaps, chocolates and artwork. The included breakfast was really excellent quality with fresh bread, frittata and scones. Very conscientious with covid-19 precautions including no contact check-in, trays to bring breakfast to rooms, and complimentary masks. Overall, great stay.

To L Farran, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you felt safe at the Paintbox Lodge. It is important to us to continue to provide a made from scratch breakfast. The breakfast is single served and pre-packaged items. We use re-usable containers like mason jars to limit waste. The tables in the rooms and trays are all salvaged wood and hand made by Thomas (co-owner of the Paintbox). Covid has been challenging but it has enabled our business to be creative. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to host you time and again.

We stayed for one night in the artists suite and loved every minute. We appreciated the careful and thorough covid measures, which left us able to focus on the beautiful rooms and luxurious lodge. The breakfast was superb, and the many single serve options were delicious and felt like a real treat. Watching the sun turn the mountains pink while sitting next to the fire gave us a very clear idea of where the room gets its name! Chocolates and excellent toiletries, plus handy extras like ear plugs were very thoughtful. Would look forward to heading back!

I found this place serendipitously when trying to find a place for our honeymoon in the Banff region. We decided to split our time — 5 days in Canmore and 2 in Banff. We easily could have stayed here the whole time as a locale to serve as a base camp for our daylong adventures. It’s a super quick stroll to Main Street and the town has a chill vibe but still a nice selection of shops and restaurants. We liked this town better as a place to stay than Banff. The lodge itself is cozy and yet has nice accommodations and amenities. Well we didn’t take advantage of it, they have bikes with helmets to use for free as well as a Hamic that you can take with you on your adventures. The breakfast are simply outstanding, don’t pass up the homemade sourdough bread with butter and jam. There’s a daily frittata, kombucha, and muffins, all delicious. And they have a “we’re not messing around” espresso machine that my husband was seriously impressed by. If you’re up for a splurge, don’t pass up a tasting menu dinner at the Sauvage restaurant next-door. We’ve been to a lot of great restaurants and this is one of the most interesting, creative, and curated meals with wine pairings that we’ve ever had. It’s a small place and they do three seatings every evening, so make sure you book a reservation especially in the summer months.

P.S. if you make your way to the town of Jasper, check out the nonprofit Friends of Jasper gift shop — it’s a great effort to support and their prices on souvenirs are fair. And don’t leave the area without going to Moraine Lake for sunrise — you will not regret getting there before 5 am to park. It’s also worth to drag yourself out of bed to get to the Lake Louise parking lot we’ll before 6 am. They have an overflow parking lot with shuttle, but who wants to deal with that? Do the Lake Agnes trail and enjoy a rest at the teahouse up above.

This lodge is perfectly located for shops and restaurants. We felt very at home in the lodge, could help ourselves to tea and coffee and delicious muffins. The bedroom and facilities were all excellent. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend staying here in Canmore.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Paintbox Lodge. We stayed in the Artist Loft (we did not need the second bedroom but it was the only room available) and it was perfect. The location is great, we could walk anywhere we needed to, and we used the complimentary bikes (and bear spray) for a few local rides around town and for dinner.

The homeade from scratch fresh breakfast was certainly one the highlights and they were able to accommodate our gluten allergy which was a huge plus!

I can't wait to come back again for my next visit, and hopefully to add on a trip to the Talus Lodge!

Thank you for your review. Glad you got out on the complimentary town bikes. The river path bike system in Canmore is soul filling and something we like to do everyday. We highly recommend to visitors. We have a celiac in the family and understand that travelling can be stressful for those with eating restrictions. Happy to accommodate. It would be wonderful to backcountry adventure with you at Talus Lodge. Until next time!

Not easy finding the perfect venue for a family of 10 adults (5 couples) and 4 toddlers / infants but we did just that when we found the Paintbox Lodge!

The 2 single bedrooms and 3 2-bedroom suites afforded everybody their own space and more importantly - their own ensuite bathrooms. Rooms were very well appointed, beds were most comfortable and sleep came easily. The main common area provided sufficient space to gather and for the kids to play but the highlight was the dining area...one large table big enough for the whole family.

We woke each morning to the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread (best sourdough bread ever!) and muffins. Our private dinner with Chef George was extraordinary.

Located in downtown Canmore, the Lodge provided us with a central meeting place and many options for exploring Canmore.

Clean, quiet, exceptional customer service...our family gathering could not have been more comfortable.

We liked it so much, we've already booked a repeat visit next December!

We have stayed at plenty of condos and bnb's over the years in Canmore and this one has it all. You can't get a better location in Canmore. Parking on site and within blocks of all the great restaurants and downtown wandering. The rooms are full on mountain theme with their own fireplace and eclectic antiques. I am not a "must have organic only" type but the all organic breakfast was great. Awesome ingrediants. Giant loaf of fresh sour dough bread, amazing jams, a great frittata, yogurt, maple syrup and kombucha. They even have an honour bar with wine and beer for purchase if you forget to stop at the liquor store. We are already planning our next ski trip so we can stay here again.
