Waterloo is a university town, and this hotel can capitalize$ on that. Considering only a recreational centre and Erb Mennonite or school were in the vicinity, I did not expect the hotel’s price and busyness: buses of wedding and sports team members checked in around the same time. The rooms were pretty standard, but with no view. (Lower numbers face the train tracks and parking lot.) Because I anticipated the noisy parties on the second floor and saw pets on Ground, I waited an extra few hours for a room on a higher floor. Pillows and extra sheets were free and a rollaway (or crib) for a fee; there wasn’t a sofa/bed available. You’re a 7-minute drive from East campus and the restaurants near there at University and Phillip. Don’t expect anyplace to dine, except Proof Kitchen on site (with no free breakfast at their tables or sectionals). It was too far in winter to walk to Taco Farm. Nothing around was open, almost midday on Saturday when I checked in with Trish, who handled Front Desk very well on her own! Surprisingly, the advertised Delta rates were also about the same as Fairmont Royal York, where I’d just checked out the day prior from a conference held in downtown Toronto. Still, this Delta has a nice little pool w/hot tub fireplace beside sauna/foosball, and is far better than Holiday Inn. It’s about 40 minutes from here to Hamilton airport and half the time driving to the local airport.
Tip: to save money
CAA members (AAA in the U.S.) can reduce the rate approx. $10 by providing the number. Bonvoy (Marriott) members can save up to an additional $25, plus get free wifi outside the Piano lobby. Reserve room(s) and dining well in advance.

Check-in was nice, self serve luggage cart, no problem. Parking $12 a day, always spots in the lot close to entrance. They do have EV charging, maybe 2-3 spots?
6th floor room was clean, roomy, beds comfortable. Fridge was empty which is nice for a family. It did not however stay cold because there's not enough ventilation in the bar. Since we had meds that needed to keep cold this was a concern but I left the bar door open about 12" and that fixed the problem, fridge started to get cold. Had to keep the door open the entire stay. Not a big deal. Didn't use the pool or any other amenities. Kids had dinner at the restaurant, no complaints. Location is good if you're visiting one of the universities. What else can I say, highly recommended.

Front desk and bellhops/concierge were excellent and quite friendly. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Staff brought us a microwave upon request, which was much appreciated. Only knocks was the breakfast buffet: expensive for quality (meh) and, for lack of a better word, "procedures".

The latter was weird. A family member booked the room for us but for some reason when we asked for the stfff to put the room charges on the credit card that was used to secure the room they couldn't find one. Minor inconvenience but weird one all the same.

I and my wife stayed just for one night. Let me start with positive points. I liked the restaurant and will go there again. We had dinner and breakfast there and I found the food quality and price very good. The service and the staff are also good. Besides the restaurant other things at the hotel considering the price around $400 per night was average or below average. The staff was mixed, some of them were great and some of the very rude. The room was clean in a good size but our room was in the top floor and due to a loud booming noise apparently from the central air conditioning on the roof, we could not sleep well. The hotel atmosphere was like a school hallway since many teenagers were there as sports teams with loud laughing and noise. The pool and hot tub was the worst, you have to book it in advance just for an hour and for entering you need to take a special key form front desk, no fresh towel was there, no one take care of the pool, sauna was cold, hot tub was tricky, sometimes worked and sometimes not. So as a conclusion, I might visit the hotel restaurant again but I don’t think I will stay again since the service is below average and it is pricey.

Our check-in and out was easy, very nice staff. We have stayed here previously and had always had an above average experience, this time we found the hotel dirty and rooms not cleaned to other Delta/Marriott standards. We understand that due to the pandemic staffing shortages have occurred, and this may be the case here. The room was a king sized bed, nice shower/bathroom set up. The pool was busy and the hot tub closed, also the gym appeared closed as well, likely due to COVID restrictions. The main issue was the lack of vaccuming, old nail clippings on the floor and dirt visible. The dresser was very dirty inside so we laid the drycleaning bag under our belongings. There was tape on the ceiling, not sure what that was about. We would stay here again, I am not sure I would seek it out as we did before. Very convenient location to restaurants and shopping.

This hotel would merit a good renovation: the rooms are outdated and some efforts could be made to pimp up the hotel.
No housekeeping during my stay and the fitness was closed (not mentioned during the booking).
They add the parking on top of your invoice… knowing you are in Waterloo, not in Toronto.
Disappointing.

Nice big TVs in room but service was not ideal. Sat in room for an hour as a technician tried fixing a loud tv with broken sound system. In room dinning took three times longer than estimated. And water taps are tricky - keep running cold late at night. Staff were friendly and professional to be sure. Small details, though, not so great.

My son and I popped in just as the kitchen was closing. We were greeted by Janine, who graciously accepted our dessert order and indulged our family’s sweet tooth (creme brulee, one of my wife’s favourite desserts). I know it can be a bother for the kitchen to make something just as they are starting their closing up routine, so I wanted to call out the great service. Though we could have been turned away, our order was accepted and cheerfully fulfilled. A big thank you to Janine and the kitchen staff. The brulee was great, too-matches the service.

Stayed at this hotel a few weekends in a row, then asked for a certain room for the next weekend, they said no problem. Got there on Thursday, didn't have the room available I had asked for, gave me another room that the shower leaked badly. Got moved to a different room, two nights later an alarm goes off at 3:00 in the morning. Not a fire alarm, just a generic alarm. Guy at desk tells me it's an alarm saying there is water in the basement. Don't know why I need to get woke up to tell me that when I'm on the 9th floor.

Ask them about laundry service, they say sure, bring your stuff down in the morning. I do and somehow they screw that up and I don't get my clothes back that afternoon and get to wear dirty clothes to work. Finally shows up the next afternoon.

The quality of the rooms really varies, it's a surprise every time. Just seems like a horribly managed property and I will not stay there again.

This is a beautiful modern hotel with spacious comfortable rooms with every modern convenience including motion sensor nightlights in the bathroom and the ability to connect your devices to the tv. There is a decent sized pool for the kids, a small but modern workout room, and a good restaurant that opens at 7 am to serve breakfast. The air system is rather loud and I unplugged the mini fridge for the same reason, but what with the scores of young children bellowing up and down the hall late into the night you will want to bring earplugs or put white noise on your iPad anyway. We were there during a cheer competition and both children and parents seemed to think nothing about yelling up and down the halls until midnight but it was nothing some white noise didn’t fix. The hotel is far better than I expected for the Delta brand and is a definite 5 star for its category.

The parking situation, however, is abominable and they need to fix it ASAP. The covered parking you follow to the end only to find nothing so you have to make an awkward turn at a dead end and try to sidle past incoming cars in a drive too narrow with no pedestrian walk. Same dead end with the outdoor parking. The underground parking is a better bet but again if you don’t find a space you have to try to make a very tight turn as it dead ends at a spot cluttered with furniture with no space to turn. I always managed to find a space in the third place I looked but the entire situation is very annoying And leaves you with a bad 10-15 min each evening. I noticed valet spots but no valet service was offered. Note that the underground parking has an elevator direct to the room floors.

Is the Wilfried University walking distance from hotel?
Answer from MiztyOne
Ontario255 contributions159 helpful votes
Yes it is and depending how fast you walk and the route you take it’s probably 20 minutes maybe 30. There are two routes on Google Maps and I would go through Waterloo Park. There’s lots of walkers and bicyclists on that route so ask for directions once in the park. The other route is left out the hotel to King Street, turn left and you will come to University Avenue and King Street and that’s WLU at that corner. If the walking is poor because of snow or ice, I’d take this route but on a pleasant day, going through the park is lovely. The hotel staff are lovely do they might have a paper route for you to follow.

You can check in to most Marriott and Hilton hotels by using their respective apps. Of course you then have to be a member of their loyalty programs, but that gives you with many benefits anyway, so why not do that. I always check in via the app. That also gives you the opportunity to setup standard requests like “no smoking room”, “upgrade if possible” etc.
