The place is handy to get to, from my aging Fathers house in Carrying Place. It is clean, and normally inexpensive. Because this trip was in the "Summer Travel Season, the price of the room was Double.
There was nothing anyone could do about this, the entire industry is trying to catch up from Covid. The rooms are kind of stuck in the 70's but that isn't nearly as important as that the place is pet friendly. We have 2 dogs that go everywhere with us, so it's important that they are accepted, and the extra charge is $15. per pet. Very reasonable, especially when compared to Hotels in Niagara Falls.

I live 20 minutes away from this hotel, but needed somewhere to stay the night before and night of my wedding. The man at the front desk when I checked in was very friendly and personable, and I felt comfortable talking with him.

Our room didn't have a garbage can at all, and we never called the front desk to supply us with one.

The door keys are temper mental but once you get the hang of it, it is easy.

My family and I stayed 1 night here and, like my kids said in their reviews, the stay was horrible from the beginning. They quoted one price when we called, then gave another at check-in. The room was disgusting; spiderwebs everywhere on the ceiling and soiled sheets and blankets on my bed, hair on my vanity and floor. So gross. We were so exhausted from our long drive, we had to stay. I had no choice but to clean the room myself and change the bedding three times because every sheet and blanket they gave me had some sort of large stain on it. Upon checkout, I discussed these issues with the desk manager and he agreed to refund me my stay because I had a terrible experience especially since there's a pandemic going on. I noticed today, three days later, that they didn't refund me my room, but instead went ahead and charged me for it. I then called them to ask them about it and the woman started yelling at me, saying that because my kids wrote a bad review about their stay, they changed their minds about the refund and charged us the full cost of the room. Thank God we asked for receipts. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

This is a lovely travelodge tucked away from the main road, it’s very nicely looked after and all the staff from front of house to night staff were very kind, professional and friendly. We felt very welcome. The accessible room was just that, room for a wheelchair but not too big for unaided walking. Bathroom was easy to use with walk in wet room type shower and shower seat and the whole room was spotlessly clean with a good telly and tea and coffee including decaf coffee! Very comfy bed and duvet/pillows honestly for the price it was amazing value. Would highly recommend as also next to Toby Carvery for breakfast. Plenty of parking - good base for exploring the Potteries.

The good: it was clean. The beds were comfortable. They use white linens on the beds.

The bad: the electronic key system does not work. We could not get into our room. My sister went back upstairs (our room was in a *basement* ) to reception to get a new key card and came back with 2. It took multiple swipes before one of them finally worked. Meanwhile, 2 of our neighbours walked by and complained of the exact same problem. They both had problems getting into their rooms because the electronic key just did not work. They kept getting locked out of their rooms whenever they left. When we finally got inside our room and shut the door, we were not able to turn the thumb lock. It would not budge. We had to hope that the swing bar would be enough to keep anyone out.

When we arrived and parked in the small, dark parking lot in the back of the *hotel*……( this has more of a creepy motel feel), we kept trying to swipe our room key to get into the building. Nothing was happening. Finally, the couple who were sitting and smoking in 2 nearby, plastic chairs told us that we didnt need to use our electronic key because the door was not locked. Sure enough, we were able to walk right in. Anyone can walk right in. Security is not a priority at this hotel. Neither is privacy actually. When we checked in and were handed our room keys, they were tucked into a paper jacket that had someone else’s phone number written on it and then scribbled out.

The ugly: I squashed two bugs in my bed. Both of them bled. I dont *think* they were bed bugs. One was a tiny, black bug. The other was a white’ish bug. Either way…….gross.

Thank You for staying with us. And apologize for the inconvenience you had. Many guests don't know how to use the card keys, many guests swipe cards wrong way, too slow, too fast or insert the card in the lock and wait couple seconds then slide out. There is many factors effects the operation of the lock. Some guests holds the door handle too long and off set the timer of the lock to be locked. Then it will obviously will not lock. This feature is just for the convenience for the guests to have them not to use the cards when they arrive to the room with many luggage bags, and they need to keep the door unlocked until they take all their belongings in to the room. Which we explain to everyone when they have the issue with the locks. The type of the room you have booked is only our ground floor which is the walk out to the water from back. Thanks again for staying with please give us another chance to serve you better.

The good: the staff was nice.

The bad: We had made a change to a reservation online therefore they never even booked us in for the right date. We had confirmed a room for five people and they gave us a small room with two double beds. When I ask for another room after 5 minutes of being in the room they said we couldn't book a bigger room because we had touch the beds . The room is somewhat clean other than the dirty walls and bugs. If you like carbs for breakfast is great. Don't even bother for the eggs and sausage. We will never return to this hotel. I think it should be renamed the Bates hotel

And once we check in our guest we can not change after couple minutes, because someone has sit on the beds and used the washroom within few minutes. We had to cut down on our breakfast during COVID restrictions and will add WAFFLES in our breakfast soon. Please visit us again and give us another chance to serve you better. Thanks again.

There is an issue with the room door locking system and the manager/owner refuses to fix it and leaves it totally in the hands of the guests.

I don't know exactly how this system works, but the gist of it is that if you hold the door handle too long (however long that's supposed to be) while unlocking your room door with the key card, the door will not lock behind you. It will close, but not lock. People will have access to your room, which is particularly worrisome if you don't use the inside door stopping lock while you are in the room, or when you leave the room.

One person in my party accidentally put the key card in the door next to ours and opened that room. We thought that the key card was not properly reprogrammed after the last guest, and that we had access not only to our room but the one next door as well.

Since this happened just before our checkout, I complained to the manager/owner, as I felt bad for the people staying in the other room, and I was wondering how many other guests may have had access to our room during our stay.

The manager/owner said that the stuff tells the guests checking in not to hold the handle too long as while unlocking the room. I don't remember the precise instructions they give because I was not the one checking us in, and I don't remember the instructions the the manager/owner repeated at checkout after I complained.

Regardless of what those very imprecise (that much I do remember) instructions are, the system, as it is programmed now, is not secure. Guests should have full trust that when they expect the doors to lock, the doors will actually lock. Simply handing over a key card with a few words of instruction is not enough and does not release the hotel from their responsibility.

I imagine that the hotel has the system set up that way to make it easier for the hotel staff to clean rooms, but it leaves guests in a vulnerable position. There are plenty of reasons why a guest may easily forget those instructions, or interpret them incorrectly, etc. so, it should never be possible for guests to disarm the locking system so easily, especially accidentally.

I provided this feedback in the client survey I received after my stay, and I was later told that this information would be sent to the hotel. Knowing how dismissive and argumentative the manager/owner was when I complained, I don't believe he will fix the problem. He wholeheartedly believes that this is a customer's issue, not his or the hotel's.

I will never stay at that hotel again (because of the manager/owner's attitude towards this issue), or another Whyndham hotel (because they obviously are unable or unwilling to provide adequate security in their hotels), and I will ask plenty of questions when I am handed a card key in other places.

My family stayed 1 night and it couldn't have been any worse, we had to change sheets 3 times before having to fall asleep because they had huge stains. Also we found someones inhaler on our floor with dozens of spider webs all around the room. Very disgusted. And they offered my Family a refund, then because we put a bad review on their hotel they took the money back off my card again. Would not recommend.

We stayed at this hotel on 28 Aug 2024. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. First when I checked in the front desk looked like a hoarder lived there. Junk piled up behind the desk, not a good look. Then we got our room and boy, not good again. It was a dirty looking roon that smelled musty. Turned on the fan on the heater/air conditioner and it just seemed to blow dust into the room. Then I sat on the bed and the springs in the mattress creaked and I sunk about 6 inches in this very old feeling mattress. Breakfast the next morning was not good either. They had one dirty looking warming tray with a dozen or so half cold mini waffles. And they had some cereal which I tasted and it was stale, and no milk in site for the cereal. They also had some bread and bagels and a few apples. This was not a decent breakfast in my opinion. And they charged us $220.00 for this, then on checkout I was told that they forgot to charge for the pets so the charged me another $45.00 or so. And that is funny because I have boarded our pets at cleaner and better looking kennels. Wyndham should be ashamed of this location.
