Detailed Reviews
4 of us recently stayed at the resort in a 3 bedroom cottage. Everything was spotless upon our arrival. We rented a small fishing boat for our 10 days and the pontoon boat for one of the days to better tour the lake in comfort. Ivy and David responded quickly to any requests or questions we had. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we are returning for 2 weeks in August.
We felt very safe with the super sanitizing that was done to the cottage.

The resort is excellent and the service was superb. Great cabins and facilities.
A great spot to stay and vacation. Very private cabins stocked with everything you need.
We took our grand kids and had a great time. Swimming and beach areas are very good. There is a private dock at each cottage for you to use as well.

We stayed a few days in a suite at the inn.
The suite was big, with a nice solarium. The place is very clean and fully equipped.
The service was great: when we arrived, there was no heating in the suite. We called the office and the problem was solved quicky while we were gone making groceries.
I would certainely go back!

We stayed at Sunny Point Resort 1st week in August, I had never been to the area so wasn't sure what to expect. We stayed in cottage 10 which has 4 bedrooms 2 with a queen bed and 2 with 2 twin beds. The rooms are basic but nice, it has a large open living room and kitchen that includes all the basic necessities it comes with a dishwasher which was nice. The bathroom is small but has a full tub. The resort is showing its age as many amenities were run down or not available.
Pros
Large cottage spaced out so you have privacy
Your own private dock at each cottage
Good fishing off the dock, caught a few large mouth bass and a turtle
Ceiling fans in each room.
Your own canoe at your dock
Boat with 10hp motor (additional cost) having the boat was a nice feature allows you to explore the lake and go to the main dock where the water amenities are
Use of all water amenities free of charge
Lake perfect temperature for swimming, clean and deep no seaweed
Cons
Lots of step to the water I believe a section of our stairs were missing as we found an older picture of the cottage that shows there were steps originally
Our dock was not level and was very wet causing a slip hazard, I had to level it out using some existing cinder blocks.
No air conditioning this was not an issue as the nights were cool
One of the rooms ceiling fan was off balance and could not be used
Water pressure, you could not use more than one faucet at a time or you would lose water pressure so unable to do dishes and take a shower
Canoe's seat was broken
Some of the water amenities are broken, the peddle boat had 2 broken seat and not enough SUP paddles

Let me start by saying that overall we loved our week at Sunny Point and are already planning a return visit for the summer of 2011. Having gotten that out of the way, let me spend a few mins on the good, the bad and the ugly.
The Good:
This place is exactly what it promised to be (and advertised) - a quiet, well-maintained cottage resort and Inn on a beautiful piece of land on Otter Lake - about 10-15 mins south of Parry Sound. (Take Hwy 69 N to the Bowes St exit for shopping at Sobey's, Canadian Tire - lots of fast food if needed and ice cream and chip truck options!) We stayed in one of the cottages, a 3 bedroom unit that also welcomed our 2 dogs. There are 10 cottages for rent here - some seemed very similar but you should check into each one in detail as a couple are very close to the water, a couple much further away (but more private), some had wading in access to the water, while others were more dock-access. Some had a screened in porch, some had decks, etc. There is also an Inn that provides accommodations and a larger cottage near the Inn for rent as well.
Our cottage was simple, but well furnished. Our unit had a recent kitchen upgrade. Everything you need is here - all utensils, cooking items, stove, fridge, BBQ (with backup tank of gas!), dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave, etc. All you need to do is supply the food. (The Sunny Point website does a great job of "what you need to bring").
The bedrooms are small, but you don't tend to spend that much time in there during a beautiful summer week.
The bathroom is also small, but the shower worked well - lots of hot water.
The cottage included a simple TV and Satellite TV service with lots of channels for some downtime or if you're hit with some rain. Each unit also has a DVD/VCR - so we made it a habit of watching a movie each night. (We brought from home, but you can borrow from the Inn as well)
Weekly rentals include an aluminum fishing boat with an 8 HP motor and one full tank of gas. The boat was great - and allowed for our family to go on a tour daily - and for the boys and I to do some fishing every night before dusk. 8 HP isn't a lot of power to get you around - but just fine for some lazy cruising to a fishing site, or down to the marina. (Worms are $4 from the Inn - and the fishing was great!)
The cottages also include a fibreglass canoe - these seemed quite new, were nice and light and in very good condition. We loved canoeing in the bay in early morning with the mist still hanging on the lake and not a ripple of activity on the lake's surface.
The resort provides all the lifejackets, paddles, etc - they even have a couple of camp chairs to use on the dock.
The resort also has some common facilities for all to enjoy - 2 tennis courts, a volleyball court, basketball court, horseshoe pitch, children's playground, recreation centre with ping pong and some video games, a 9-hole mini-putt course, and some nature trails. There is also a small common beach area and a water trampoline, swimming area, and 1 and 2-man kayaks to borrow and use near the main lodge. Finally, if your teenage kids can't do without their email access for a week, there is a room with satellite connectivity at the main lodge that will provide the internet access for your laptop. This combination of activities (along with their bikes) certainly kept the 2-14 year old boys completely busy over the week.
It is worth mentioning, that as a 'pet-friendly' resort, they are very accommodating to these special members of our family. They provided lots of extra towels, sheets, etc - understanding that some of us 'spoil' our pets by allowing them on the furniture, beds, etc. and so we could protect the furniture for the next guests with the sheets, etc.
The Bad:
There really aren't any "bad" things at the resort, but in keeping with the theme, I will comment on some things that to us, were a little 'disappointing'.
The resort makes no secret of this, but there are NO outdoor fires on the premises. Apparently, a guest in years gone by burned down one of the cottages and ever since, the resort has not insured the property for any outdoor burning. While I can understand the sensitivity around this, summertime and camping/cottaging isn't quite the same without a fire to enjoy once darkness falls. Each cottage does come with a woodstove - but it's an internal fire only and has the downside of heating up your sleeping space. I'd like to think there is a safe way to resolve this dilemma......if not providing a fire pit for each cottage, what about a common fire pit on the property where all guests could come to enjoy a fire together - and the management could 'supervise' the fire? It didn't spoil our stay by any means, but was a 'missing'. While boating back near dusk most nights, other cottagers on the lake were enjoying fires lakeside and the picture and smell reminded us of what we were missing.
The beds in the cottage were a bit 'dated'. Both my wife and I developed some nagging back pain over the week that we assume was from the soft bed - that sunk a bit in the middle, pulling both of us toward the middle each night. This was not a problem for the kids at all.
While most of the facilities are in great shape, the mini-golf course has unfortunately seen much better days. The 9 hole course is made from wooden frames wrapped in astro-turf, but the weather has really beaten these down. There are some rough soft spots, and obstacles that are now impassable. Again, not a huge complaint or anything - our kids took it as an additional challenge in playing the course, but an update here is certainly in order.
The Ugly:
The only thing we could come up with here was the disappointment over the cost for a tube ride. Twice a week, the resort owners offer tube rides for $45 for a 15 min ride (and their tube will hold 3 riders). Now maybe we're not overally experienced with this, but that charge simply seems excessive to us. 15 mins for $45???!! I can't imagine the boat using much more than a few litres of gas in this timeframe......I'm all for people making a fair profit for service, but the resort isn't cheap, so the $45 feels a bit like a gouge. As a result, we did not take advantage of the service (to the disappointment of our 2 14 yr old boys).
All to say, it was a great stay - and the 4 stars are well earned. Maybe I should have used "The Great, The Good, and the Mildly Disappointing" more appropriately as my titles - but nothing should keep you away from this place. The owners are very hands on and great to deal with - it is easy to see that they love this place, and you will too.

We just returned from a 2 night stay at Sunny Point Resort (July 2015) We had such a wonderful time. We stayed in a cottage and it really felt like it was our own - without all the work that goes with owning a cottage. We found Andy and Sue to be extremely helpful, friendly and easy going - everything was made easy. I love that you get your own canoe and dock, we spent most of our time sitting on the dock, swimming in the lake, enjoying the sights from the canoe, and we also rented the Pontoon boat which was fun. My first reaction when I saw the cottage was that it was way better than expected - it is beyond beautiful. The trees and lake are magical, my 4 year old daughter loved the shallow area beside our dock. And I agree with other viewers you notice right away how Clean the cottage is. There is really nothing I would change or complain about, and I felt like if we were to need something or have any type of issue it would be solved immediately by Andy and Sue, they are wonderful. We all loved our stay and plan on making it a yearly tradition. I also have to mention how quiet and private the cottages are, the perfect escape from Toronto.

Hi Nora, Thanks so much for taking the time to post on TA and for your kind words. Sue and I are very pleased to share our private resort with families like yours. Years ago we had the same impression as you when we purchased. We agree it really does feel like your own private cottage. Sue works hard with Mirella to create a very clean cottage and I try my best with Paul to keep things well maintained and most of the time it turns out very good. We appreciate that you have limited time to spend your vacation dollars and we try to insure a pleasant experience if you choose to come here. We are looking forward to seeing you on another adventure. Andy

This was our first stay at Sunny Point, and we had such a great time we've booked again for next year! I was there for a week with my 3 boys, ages 7, 8 and 12.....there's something to be said when none of them complain about being bored! Everything that you see advertised on the Sunny Point website is accurate......the boys loved swimming in the lake and used every possible piece of water equipment available at least once (paddle boats, kayaks, paddle boards, etc.). When we weren't in the water or relaxing on the deck, we were playing tennis, basketball, mini-golf and enjoying the walking trails that are on the property. There's also a rec centre with table tennis, air hockey, pool table, video games, etc., that helped entertain the boys on the days that were a bit cool for swimming. It was great to be able to leave the car parked for the week, and not worry about having to go off-site to find things to entertain us.
We stayed in the Rosseau Suite in the inn, which was just the right size for all of us. This suite is a main floor unit and has beautiful views of the lake, as well as a private patio and barbeque overlooking the lake. Everything in our suite was clean and comfortable, and the kitchen was stocked with all the necessary appliances needed.
Sunny Point is the perfect place to escape for awhile and just relax.....I'm so glad we found it!!!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review about Sunny Point. You and your 3 boys absolutely get our vote for being the guest this summer who really used every inch of our 84 acres!! We enjoyed hosting you and your family and were pleased that you reserved for 2014. See you next summer. Andy

This is our 1st time staying at a cottage resort in this area. It is nice and quiet (because summer is over and school starts). According to others reviews, yes there're a lot of things you could do in the resort which I won't repeat.
We stayed in the junior suite at the main building, facing the lake, and the view was gorgeous! We walked around the property in the morning and it was beautiful!
We can choose to cook in our room or use the BBQ stove outisde (lots of them).
We arrived really late at night and was reminded by Andy (the super nice owner) to follow the directions on the website instead of GPS. Yes, he was right. If you come from the south and exit 213 on the 400, you need to follow his directions closely. Our Garmin GPS won't work properly. However, if you start driving from the resort, my GPS worked fine...haha! However, if you were like us, arriving from south in the dark, we suggest you exit 214 and your GPS should work fine....just one more exit and it'll save you some hazzle, especially if you don't have anyone to read the directions while you are driving.
It is about 10 minutes drive from the downtown of Parry Sound...which is wonderful! You can take the cruise, buy groceries and/or get a good meal.
On the website, we were told to bring our own tissue paper and other toiletries, but actually they have everything except shower gel and shampoos.
The satellite TV had some connection problems due to heavy rains but that's OK.
We will be back!

Dear 2travelhonies, Thanks for taking the time to review us here and for being our guest on a rainy weekend. I will admit that when it rains we sometimes have intermittent reception from Shaw Direct on our satellite tvs. It's frustrating for us too considering we pay for over 100 channels and most times guests are enjoying our 84 acres or the waterfront anyway. In any event, we do have a video library that we lend out for free to our guests. Sue and I are so pleased that you expect to return. I can guarantee that the experience here is so much more fun if it doesn't rain the entire time of your stay! Sincerely, Andy

I stayed at Sunny Point Resort the first week in August and it was an absolutely wonderful. The moment you drive on to the property you know you are somewhere special.... it is quiet, peaceful and untouched yet you are only minutes from the 400 and 20 minutes from Parry Sound We were greeted by the owners Andy and Sue who are very friendly and accommodating. Our cabin was exquisite. First off it was very clean and well appointed, then secluded with a picturesque view of Otter lake, with your own private dock and canoe. You are surrounding by the beauty of nature every where you go. This resort offers rooms, cabins and a huge home for rent and also offers a beach, boating, swimming ,fishing, sports, recreation hall, hiking trails and much much more to accommodate all kinds of vacationers needs and wants for the perfect holiday. We met a couple on The Island Cruise in Parry Sound who had not been satisfied by their previous few holiday places and invited them to have a look at Sunny Point. They too were so impressed that they immediately booked a cabin for next year for their family.
Thank you Andy and Sue with sharing your dream ....it simply was the best experience ever!

Hi Tammy, Thanks for the review and for the referral to the couple you met on the Island Queen in Parry Sound. They did come her that day and book the Seguin 2 bedroom suite for a week next summer. Thanks to you! 12 years ago when I drop into Sunny Point for the first time I too was captivated by the entrance which I agree is special. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and hope we see you again soon. Andy

We have recently returned from our 4th or 5th trip to Sunnypoint. We initially started to go when our children were pretty young and for a couple of years as they got older and interested in different things we experienced "empty nest syndrome" on our vacation. My children have since grown and one has even moved out, however they have returned for family vacation at Sunnypoint over the last 2 years and have even included their significant others. We couldnt be more thrilled. I attribute their return to the many amenties offered on the grounds. From the time we arrive we are busy, playing tennis, volleyball, boating, paddle boarding and enjoying time at the front on the beach as a family. The cottages themselves are clean, private and obviously well maintained and the views are second to no other. While we travel a few times through the year, this spot holds a special place in our hearts. I truly want to thank Andy and Sue for working so hard in providing such a wonderful experience..
Thanks Colleen and Bryan

Response from sunnypt, Owner at Sunny Point Resort, Cottages & Inn
Responded Aug 30, 2014
Colleen and Bryan, Thanks so much for the kind words in your review. You perfectly describe for me and Sue the best part of owning Sunny Point. We see families and couples who we get to know enjoying themselves at our resort. Most of our reservations are repeating guests like yourself. This is for us the best acknowledgement that we are providing the kind of place that families like yours value. Sincerely, Andy and Sue

HI, Kayla
There are nine individual cottages, one Grand Muskokan that good for 14 PPl, and seven suites in our Sunny Point Resort.
They are rent by one by one.
Hi, We are about 22 km South of Parry Sound. A bus drops off at the Harvey's/Swiss Chalet in town. We are honestly better accessible by car. You would need to take a taxi from Parry Sound to us. Thanks, Andy
