We rented this cabin since it was one of the few left that could accommodate our group size (4 adults-6kids).We booked in April for August. I read the reviews but figured we would have to see for ourselves. WOW! This place was disgusting. I would not even pay half of what we did to stay here. Even with the use of the free lake toys, it does not make up for the condition the cabin is in. Holes in the roof, mold in the bathrooms, windows and doors that don't open or shut, garbage in the couches and dressers, floors never swept or mopped, we had random people enter our cabin because there is a sign that says office on the building. Had to lock the front door so they wouldn't come in. Simple solution would be to take out the 4 screws holding the sign up since it is no longer an office. The list goes on and on. The second night we were here it stormed and leaked through the bedroom windows and dripped through into the bedroom below. So many cobwebs and flies from broken screens on the windows. 2 smoke detectors that clearly don't work and are just hanging there. I am not one to rate unfairly and are pretty easy going, but this place is a huge NO for too many reasons to list. We took pictures of everything that is wrong with the place. Not worth even half the money! Huge disappointment since our kids have been looking forward to this trip for months and with covid this is the first vacation we have had in over a year!!

This should not be called a resort - it is a property with a bunch of run down shacks. The equipment provided for the lake was mostly broken (SUPs missing fins, paddleboard missing seats). The play equipment is not inspected or kept up. The owners never came and introduced themselves or welcomed us. We were also overcharged and promised a refund that was not received.

I don’t know where to begin. The cabin I rented was filthy. The stove and bbq smelled, the fridge and the dishes were all dirty, there were used towels in the bathroom. The shower itself was falling apart - I could go on and on. Stay away!

If you are interested in a tranquil, peaceful location, much better than camping, but still the outdoor feel, with beautiful views, great fishing, a romantic time, a family friendly place, all of the above, or just one of those, you're in luck, because I can't think of a better place. Will and Laura were great hosts. Their family on site made us feel at home, my teenage kids had a great time, even without their cellular phones. (because we took them). We went in August, the water was too warm, which made fishing horrible. Will and Laura surprised us with a fish fry, due to our inability to catch our own. Some of these reviews here are very unfair. If you're expecting 5 star, go to a 5 star hotel. I rated excellent, not because I didn't have complaints, but because this old property was being upgraded while we were on site, and the one complaint I had (a window not working properly), was fixed within minutes of our complaint. Could it be nicer, sure, it's old, but they were working very hard to upgrade. It's never going to be a 5 star hotel, it's cabins, in the woods, on a lake, in the wilderness. We had a better time here than anywhere we've gone. It was a great family vacation. It's not Disney, it's not Vegas, it's relaxation, and tranquility at it's finest, at a great family owned and run property, and we hope to return in 2020.

You can’t beat the beachside view, but the unclean cabins are not worth it. We found bugs in the beds, stains on the floor and mattresses, the toilet broke, the shower was leaky and covered in cobwebs, the couch smelled of urine, and the door could be pushed open even when locked. We found large nails on the beach where the children were playing.

I'm sorry this was your experience, yet I don't believe this is a fair review. Your group enjoyed 2 nights at our property then decided to leave before the 3rd after having said everything was great when asked. The cabins are rustic yes, but clean. We have built 150 feet of new docking which was under construction during your visit and guests asked to stay off that area when checked in, which would be where any nails were. Beach area is free of nails and clean, safe place for children. I don't believe you will find a more family friendly place for children in the area, with a ton of FREE activities for kids, and a family friendly atmosphere. Toilets are older but clean on the outside, couches are newer sofa beds and cleaned. Mattresses in your cabin are only a few years old, newer pillow top ones. We are working to continue to upgrade our property, and I have many guests returning year after year. Please consider looking on Airbnb at our many positive reviews and not just the opinions of this one guest.

The lake is beautiful and there are many water toys for the guests to use. The owners are very nice and relaxed people who seemed genuinely concerned with the resort. It was great that we were allowed to have guests come and visit and our dogs could run free. When we arrived we had some immediate concerns and it quickly became obvious that this place was not in any condition to be rented. The fact that the toilet leaked, the seat was broken, the tub did not drain, a light switch in the kitchen did not a have a proper cover plate and nails were sticking out the wall in several places making this a unsafe and unsanitary. When entering the front entrance there is a pot of dirt with two pens and a dust pan on the porch. There is a hot tub up against the building inoperable and with a hole in the side of it. The top is up so when looking over the deck you can see dirty water in the bottom it should be removed immediately as it could be a health and safety issue. It certainly was an eye sore and something that could easily be addressed. The bathroom on the main floor smelled of urine, the sink is about to fall off the wall, the toilet leaks and the tub was not able to drain. The toilet seat was broken and the staff addressed this and the shower curtain was replaced as it was covered in mold. The leaky toilet was dealt with by the owner placing a towel around the bottom of it. In the kitchen we had to have the owner come in and assist us in cleaning the place so that it was tolerable. The utensil draw had to be changed as it was full of dirt. All the kitchen cupboards have paint peeling off and some of the handles are broken leaving sharp edges for kids to catch themselves on. The owner quickly replace a light switch cover when it was pointed out the dangers off having wires exposed. There were food and crumbs along the floor under the kitchen counter. The window sills were filthy as they were not vacuumed out or cleaned. A lot of the windows have winter plastic covering them and cannot be opened and all of the windows are dirty. There was gum on the ceiling of one of one bedroom ceilings and gum on the side of the t.v stand. The deck needs to be cleaned off as there are spider webs every where. The deck furniture is stained and ripped, the wooded lawn chairs need to be sanded as to avoid guest getting splinters. We spend about an hour cleaning the Barbecue to get it clean however the burners are so worn out that the BBQ should be discarded. At one time this building was also the office to the resort there is a sign above the door that says "office" Please consider covering it up or place a note on the door re directing people as many other guest just walked in thinking it was the current office. We did consider leaving immediately due to the state of the place, but because we all had travelled so far, finding new accommodations would be time consuming and extremely difficult we decided to spend the day cleaning as much as we could and then making the most of our holiday. It is a beautiful spot and it is a shame the condition of the cabin is so poor and needs serious attention. Some TLC would make a huge difference and if possible having a professional cleaning crew in. Please consider having someone come in who has experience with running a resort and giving you their opinion. Detail and presentation are so important we expected the lodge to be old and rustic but not filthy and not always functional! We spent a day cleaning and we spent a lot more on food as we really could not get past the state of the kitchen so our expenditures were drastically increased as we did not really want to prepare food there. If you are looking for place in Kenora the lakes are beautiful and the people are friendly we can however not recommend this place at any cost. There is no fine line between rustic and clean they are two completely different things. The owners expressed there desperation for cleaning staff however that should not be our problem on a trip. In closing if you are not expecting too much you might not be let down. We were expecting clean, operable and safe. We did not feel we had any one of the three. This is a zero star place and we will not be going back.

I feel this review is very unfair, and considering there were 2 families in your group that shared this lodge for the week, and one family is returning for the 2019 season I don't believe they consider it to be a zero star place. We have had many happy guests in the lodge and other cabins and after every effort that was made to please your group, and the MANY unregistered guests that we allowed on the property to enjoy free use of all our kayaks, paddle boards, etc so make your vacation a great time with family and friends, I was extremely offended to read this. If you are looking for accurate reviews of Sun Valley Resort please consider looking us up on Airbnb as well which requires all it's hosts to maintain high standards and we continue to be in excellent standing with Airbnb.

After driving from Saskatoon, SK all day with a short stop in Brandon, Manitoba to visit an old friend we pushed on and thought we would have no trouble finding a spot for the night in Kenora, Ontario, wrong! lots of hotels and motels according to google but they are all booked with highway construction workers, pipe line workers etc... no trouble on weekends getting a room but impossible during the week, Luckily for us the girl at the Days Inn had a friend who had cabins at Sun Valley Resort and she had one cabin left, we were there only a short time but better than sleeping on the roadside on pushing onto Dryden, ON but they also had no rooms available, If northern Ontario wants tourists to stop and visit they need to free up some rooms for the one night road travellers we were pushing to make Vars, ON and home by Friday, pulling a trailer with an old truck on it this was not a pleasure trip and rooms would have been welcome in these towns Southern and Eastern ON all our money is going to new roads and bridges in northern Ontario, amazing the road and bridges being build

We stayed for 4 nights, the cabins are a bit dated, but not unlike what I would expect for a cabin. They have everything you need, comfortable beds, sofa beds, fridge/stove and bbq. The location is beautiful and there's so much for kids to do. Play structures, trampoline, kayaks, floating bouncers. The water is clear and warm. The hosts and their girls are very accommodating and they played so well with our girls. They loved hunting for frogs and turtles! We will stay here again when we come back to Kenora!

This place is nice has a good view and friendly owners but they lied to us. Lots of things to do like paddle boats canoe kayak and paddle boats. Nice private beach and reasonable price but had bad experience with this place first time got locked out of our place and second out duplex was leaking stuff not working and they charged us on credit card without notifying us first hence lying to us. Would not go back here and don't recommend this place.

I am very concerned by your review and would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you and resolve any issues you had. We have never charged a credit card without authorization and only as a deposit, balance paid on arrival. In the entire period we have owned this resort, 2 seasons now, we have only had to charge a small fee against a damage deposit for lost equipment, and this was discussed with guests prior to charging. We would love to resolve any issues you may have, please reach us at 807-543-2229. We did take over the resort last season and continue to make improvements. The roof has been repaired on two cabins that were leaking last season. We have added numerous water activities for guests enjoyment and done exterior painting. We now have cable tv in all cabins in addition to the wifi.

Actually ended up staying here on business trip by accident. Never slept better with the fresh air. I was in the Duplex cabin, offers a decent kitchen and BBQ on porch. Worth it for the reasonable rates they are listing.
