Was a very busy weekend in Kenora so the hotel called me to confirm my stay. Front desk person was there when we arrived at approx. 3pm. Easy check in, we used Expedia.
Room was upstairs and place was tidy. It was such a hot weekend too but when we entered the room the air conditioner was already going and felt great. Room was clean, bed comfy, bathtub clean, noise level acceptable.
The only thing was the floor made our socks and feet black. Was not carpet so that was good.
Next door to tim hortons coffee shop.
We would stay there again. Thank you.

Walls are paper thin. Bed is uncomfortable. Made it hard to get a decent sleep before a long day of driving. No view from the second floor so don't be fooled by the motel name. Price should be cheaper for what you get. Only good thing was the water pressure in the shower.

Once you get into your room, you feel vindicated. Our room was updated, looked virtually brand new. Fancy new flooring, door on the bathroom, new bed, dresser, TV and fixtures in the bathroom. If all I saw was the price and the room, I would think it was a windfall.

Stay tuned, the story isn't over. We picked this place because of the price, and the fact that it's called "Waterview Inn". Well, maybe when it was originally built it had a waterview... but that hasn't been for at least 10 years... probably 20. It's not an Inn either, it's a two storey Motel, and from the look of the outside I'll say I was ready to run away. It's pretty dilapidated.

Check-in is a nightmare if you're the least bit squeamish. There's no lobby or front desk. You come into a dark, uneven hall and there's what looks like a window with a board covering it. A small ledge has a small handwritten sign saying to call a number to get a receptionist. As soon as I made a noise, all of a sudden the board went away and there is a woman sitting there... in a desk that's crammed into a corner that looks like the end of what used to be a hall. It's a scene out of Tim Burton. Pay up front.

In the room, everything worked... except the TV. I called the receptionist. She didn't know how to make it work, but she said another patron of the motel had figured it out and she would send her around to help me???? Well... that happened.

In the end, we got what we paid for. A nice clean room at a very reasonable price. But this place is not what the advertising says at all. Spend the extra money and go someplace with peace of mind and integrity.

Stayed for 2 nights in the kenora area to enjoy the sites. Exterior definitely needs an update but the rooms inside are recently done. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite with access to the large deck out front with tables and chairs. Very nice room and safe and quiet location for our bikes. Definitely felt safer staying there than some of the other hotels in town. Only complaint was TV troubles and they discounted us for that. Will definitely be my choice when coming to kenora.

Experience definitely not worth $130 a night plus tax. ($151) Rooms these days aren’t clean like they used to be. Found lots of hair in the bed. Use fabric softener to help with that! Fingerprints on walls and door. Not sure what the heck I paid for. Hot as hell and the a/c smells like it’s in the middle of a forest fire. Very noisy outside and in, like it’s coming from the next room. Will not stay again

The motel/hotel itself is older but has been remodelled/updated. So rooms seemed nice enough but...
When i called to book the women never told be i couldnt cancel afterwards and when i called back an hour later to cancel she refused me said there was a 24hr cancelation notice on a room i booked less than an hour before.
Once i arrived in my room she took a long time to check me in, the room was dirty, the tv was on in the room like as if it hadnt been cleaned that day and my sheets were also dirty. As i had been driving 16hrs that day i gave in and stayed the night and slept in my clothes on top of the covers. I was extremely disappointed in this place and it was very expensive. Probably the second worse place ive ever stayed in canada

Terrible terrible service near the end. Front desk lady would not give money back for not feeling safe and comfortable. Had not even stepped foot into the room. Got pushed out of the way at front desk for a young local "thug" so he could use the front desk phone to call his probation officer and that was enough to make a person feel uncomfortable especially after driving 20 hours I did not except to be eyed down by the locals and when I asked for my money back I was accused of being racist. Lobby smelled like cigarettes. I am over all disgusted. What a dump I can't believe she gets away with it. I am out 80 dollars and am a racist? I would not ever reccomend this place for anybody to stay!! I am very unimpressed

This hotel is really a motel. It is called the Waterview, but there is no view of the water - my room, on the main floor, had a view of the Subway fast-food restaurant across the street. Maybe the rooms on the 2nd floor could see water. The rooms have been renovated, but that can't hide the fact that the sheets are stained, the covers are so old they are sticky, and the bathroom is tiny. While sitting on the toilet I had to put my right elbow on the sink vanity - I do not know what a large person would do. The reception is unfriendly, and usually unavailable. When I asked if I could order a taxi, I was handed a phone book. When I left a pair of glasses behind, they refused to mail them to me (even though I offered to pre-pay postage) because they have had to eat postage costs before. Kenora is a lovely place. This hotel is not a shining example.

We stayed here for one night on a road trip, and chose this hotel only because everything else in Kenora was booked. You can tell from the pictures that this place is not a first-rate property by any stretch of the imagination, but upon arrival, any fears you might have about it will be confirmed. Others have commented on the rude staff, but I have my own comment. When we arrived, we had been on the road for a while and I needed to use the toilet. There are both mens' and womens' toilets off the lobby. My traveling companion was handling the check-in, which was taking a few minutes, so I went to the mens' room and found the door locked. When I went back to the desk and asked if I could have a key to the toilet, the clerk simply replied with an emphatic "No". She said I could use the toilet in the room, once we were checked in. That little exchange pretty much set the tone for the whole stay.

As for the room, as bad as it was, it may have been the best part of the experience. Ignoring the long hair that was draped across my pillow, and the stains on the bed cover (Were they simply spilled beverages, or were they bodily fluids? We'll never know.) the room had the appearance of maybe having been cleaned within the previous week. At least the bed was made and the towels were folded, which gave the appearance that perhaps the sheets and towels had been washed recently. I could go on, but you get the picture. All-in-all, a bad experience.

Important: My room was updated and clean. I slept good and my room was quiet. On the room alone this motel would have 3-stars.

Why the poor rating? Well the motel would have you believe they have a restaurant and accessible deck. Both are closed. They would have you believe there's a view of water. Sure, beyond the Subway restaurant and radio station. Trust me, you'll be disappointed if you're expecting what's in the pictures.

The first impressions are not good. When you walk in to the lobby the registration desk is boarded up and there's a sign with a number to call. Kinda ridiculous when you're an international traveler. Anyway, call the number and the boards come up and there's an employee. They live in the motel and I guess they don't feel like standing at the registration desk all day. But, that IS your job, so....

The staff is friendly and helpful but the building just screams laziness. Not just with the boarded up registration desk, but the housekeeping cart remains in the hallway 24/7. When do they change the towels they clean with? Why is it sitting outside a guests window. What if I wanna see the railroad tracks or something instead? The updated rooms have paint splashes and missed spots.

It's like the owners are making steps toward having a good operation but allow very fixable issues to drag them down. In fact the entire area around the motel seems to have a similar problem. Maybe the constant tourism money breeds complacency but hopefully this place can get it together and become a great example for surrounding motels.
