We decided to bring our extremely dedicated teenaged fisherman on a trip to Lake of the Woods. I had never been, and didn’t have anyone to ask. We did extensive research, and read many reviews. I called Crow Rock and spoke to Kurt, and we booked it. We are SO glad we did! It was an absolutely incredible experience. Way more than we expected. Fishing was so good, it was hard to believe it was true. My son and I each caught several PB’s, only to surpass them 2 more times each. Each day started with an incredible breakfast. We had the same table in the lodge for breakfast and dinner, and we got to know many of the other guests and share stories. Fishing from 8-5 and dinner at 6. Dinner…wow. Excellent food, gourmet, something different each night, and homemade desserts! We headed back out after dinner for another few hours of fishing each night, as it got dark around 10pm. We had a guide for a couple of days, and he was excellent- put us on some big fish, and good numbers of them too. We learned so much. The days we didn’t have a guide, we still did really, really well, even though we had never been there nor do we fish lakes much at home- mostly rivers and ponds. Kurt and the staff pointed out some spots on the map, and gave helpful hints for us to find our own. The boats were solid, and in very good shape. It was a joy to take them out and fish. The lodge has sole fishing rights to 7 or 8 lakes that guests can fish. We chose to fish one of these lakes for a day, and were dropped off in the morning after breakfast. We had our own boat, and fished the full day. We were the only people on the lake, and it was 300 acres bigger than a lake we fish back home that usually has several dozen boats on it at any time. To top it off, we caught a ton of fish that day too. My son and I will have these memories for a lifetime, and are planning to return next year! The lodge is comfy, very clean, with a nice tv and couches, connected to the office and dining area, and a small area where they sell tackle (very handy to have). The cabins are very comfortable, and renovated. Staff was fantastic, location was great (35 minute boat ride from Kenora) - far enough away to get a wonderful wilderness experience, in great comfort. Glad we found Crow Rock and can’t wait to go back!…
My brother and I have fished out of Crow Rock Lodge for the last three summers and wouldn't go anywhere else for our annual Labor Day Weekend trip to lake of the woods. Kurt, Wendel and their entire team do an incredible job, are very accommodating, and make it a great experience from start to finish. We only fish musky, but there's groups fishing out of the same camp targeting walleye, small mouth, northern, etc. All have good luck either on their own or with one of Crow Rock's guides. Guides are just good people and fun to spend the day with in a boat. Boats available are far better than we've experienced at other locations. Food is great, you won't go hungry and have a great bar on-site if you want a drink after a day on the water. Don't go anywhere else.
I have been going to fishing lodges since I was very young. I have fished from Great Slave Lake in the Northwest Territory to a place in Venezuela for Peacock Bass (before Chavez) and most of Central America on both coasts. I particularly love fishing in Canada. Without a doubt Crow Rock might be the best place that I have ever enjoyed. First, the place is fairly easy to reach from International Falls, MN by car. Second, Kurt and his family have run Crow Rock for many years and do it really well. Food very good and lots of it. The cabins are spotless. The help goes out of the way to assist. Fishing was very good and the guides were great. My son and I each caught a trophy smallmouth bass, 1 large Musky and 2 big Northern Pikes. No complaints about this place. I'll be back next year. ENJOY!…
Crow Rock and Rowdy lake are the absolute best fishing experience in Canada. We missed due to Covid last time around but already have 2021 booked. What a fantastic time. Giant pike and walleye and the small mouths are my absolute favorite. You lose track of how many fish you catch.
I had one of the best fishing trips ever thanks to the folks at Crow Rock Lodge. The staff, guides and accommodations were outstanding. The guides had us on large numbers of fish every day. The food, service and lodging were perfect and greatly appreciated. I’ve already booked my next trip there.
My husband and I just got back. They surpassed our expectations! The staff are great, it is a family atmosphere. The food was wonderful, you are not going to loose weight here. Definitely do the shore lunch at least one day, it was so fun and tasted SO good. Trevor and Jordy were our guides for fishing... could not have been better. Kurt the owner and his daughter Cassie.... just great. Can’t wait to get the chance to go back!
The best boss and job I ever had as a chef the place is absolutely beautiful with some of the best scenery in the world!.the sunsets and sunrises to the stars to the full moon I know that anyone who visits here will be ‘hooked” and want to return.thankyou to the dafcik family!.
Have been coming to CR for the last 3 years and we did this to get a new experience from where we stayed for 15 years a high end lodge not far form CR. The team at CR do an amazing job & the lodge is centrally located in some of the best fishing waters on LOW. Paul W
5 years ago I was looking for a place that my 2 teenage boys & I could go for some amazing fishing & a trip we'd never forget. By luck I stumbled on Crow Rock searching the Internet. I gave Kurt a call & arranged to stay at Cloverleaf Island for a week. I also hired one of Crow Rocks guides to show us around the lake for a day. This really paid off, Chris showed us so many hot spots that we visit year after year & they almost always produce. The island cottages are awesome & the fishing is unreal. We caught 6 35" plus pike, 100's of walleye & almost landed our first 50" plus Muskie that summer. To make a long story short we're booked in again this summer for the 5th year in a row. We love it so much we tow the boat from Guelph, Ontario (about 20 hours). I know that sounds crazy but it's worth it. Kurt & Wendel are amazing hosts & are willing to do what ever you need to make your stay enjoyable. The Baker Boys…
I have visited Crow Rock lodge for 8 years now either as a big group or with my immediate family. Wendel and the Dafcik family has always been very gracious and made our stays very memorable. This year my son and I visited Crow Rocks outpost Rowdy lake in early September. The trip was spectacular! It was a scenic 30 minute flight from the Kenora dock. When we landed we were welcomed by Merv and Jennifer. Our bags and gear were taken to our cabin, had a quick lunch and we were on the water in no time. We fished the afternoon on Rowdy and caught about 60 walleye in a few hours. The next day Joyce lake was very productive, the jigs didn’t even hit the bottom and the fish were biting! Any color jig was working. We used frozen minnows or power bait and they didn’t stop banging the hook! We lost count of how many we landed. Easily in the 100s. Another day we targeted master pike at Carlbom lake and it didn’t disappoint. Before lunch we landed around 30 big pike and one 38 incher. Wyder lake was great for lake trout. The fish finder didn’t lie. Anytime it would alert we’d drop our hook and it was fish on! Even from the main dock we were catching lots of fish between 18 to 24 inches. The meals were amazing from the walleye dinner, steak and famous mashed potatoes, to the hearty breakfasts and homemade desserts. The portages were easily navigable and the boats and motors very reliable. The cabins are comfortable, clean and roomy. Shower was hot and even a flush toilet! An outstanding trip. The team at Rowdy are very friendly, personable and extremely accommodating and know how to look after their guests. Lots of laughs and stories shared in the main cabin / dining room. Wendel is such a great host! He treats everyone first class. There is no one more hospitable. Thanks Wendel Great times! Paul…
