Resort is quite dated and could use some renovations. Mouse seen in the ladies bathroom by check in desk. Evening check in person doesn’t have much of a personality which is surprising since it’s hospitality industry but Karen at the bar certainly made up for that. She was amazing! Deck outside needs some work so someone doesn’t fall. Looks like band aid solutions have been installed for safety but I thinks it’s definitively overdue for some money to be sunk into this resort. Wallpaper coming off walls in some hallways, carpeted areas are so old. Restaurant food was good as was the staff in the restaurant.

Hotel's Favourite
Stayed for 2 nights during March Break 2022. Had a pleasant visit. The room was clean and quiet (on the top floor at the end) with a view of a forest and side view of the ski resort from the balcony. Used the restaurant and a play room. Did not use the pool, there were so many people, did not feel too comfortable in the given situation. Resort was all full, but could not complain about the noise, was all good for us, maybe because we were quite far from the action center. Dinner was ok, but kind of slow in service. At night there was not much to do outside of the hotel - nothing is there. But during the daytime you can use sleds and snow shoes that they offer for free - and go tobogganing at the back of the hotel (pretty nice slope) and snow shoeing on Lake Peninsula - beautiful views! Ski resort is just near the hotel, so that is awesome. The ski resort itself is nice, the equipment we rented was very dated. Saw a family of deer right near the resort. I'm sure it's very nice on the lake in summer! They have their own beach! Pretty nice stay. Thank you!

So the photos you will see online will not reflect the atmosphere. The online photos make it seem like a modern ski lodge, and it does have elements of that, however, most of it has the feel of a dated family hotel, and for the price, I am completely fine with that. I am a mom with a daughter that was going to a dance competition next door at the Deer hurst inn and their prices were completely ridiculous, I wanted a nice safe hotel that was clean with a pool and a restaurant and that's what I got. There is much maintenance required, but only aesthetics. I cannot stress enough, how completely kind, engaging, and professional every staff member was there, it was truly remarkable. I will let you read that again-I have never visited anywhere, even Disneyworld, where every staff member was consistently warm and welcoming and helpful. I felt so comfortable and safe being on my own. My daughter and I checked out this morning and the staff and the trainee were marvelous; the lady running the lounge was so sweet with my girl and was hilarious with the bar patrons watching the game. The food was inconsistent in the sense that my salad last night had no dressing on it-literally bone dry(i didnt say anything and I am sure if i did it would have been fixed right away-the inconsistencies were the kitchen alone), but the onion soup and the chicken brie sandwich were awesome and so was the fresh fries. In the morning one pancake was perfectly golden brown and the other two were cooked but with no colour-so just barely cooked. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, and most people can make pancakes so that was a bit disappointing but the rest of the food was wonderful. the pool was a great plus with a warm hot tub. We had such a good time. It is off season right now, so I dont know what its like in the throws of summer or ski season, but the deck and the courts were in shambles, there was a dead woodpecker on the deck in the morning and caution tape on the deckrails, and the pool outside was green-again, the snow was just melted. So I will give some grace there. The shampoo etc in the rooms was great. No art on the room walls, but the rooms are so clean. Vaccum marks on the hallay and stairs every morning-its clean, just a little tired here and there. I have been in very nice hotels that seem clean because they are newer and on closer inspection are actually dirty. I would definitely go back there with the rest of my family, the lounge chairs in my room were badly cracked and peeling, but the beds and pillows were clean and comfy as any high end hotel I have stayed at. So there you have it.

This was once a luxury resort but it appears that not one cent has been spent on upgrading the hotel. I didn't find it dirty like others have written but because the place is tired, it feels that way - discoloured grout, torn furniture, damaged lamp shades, fireplace in room that didn't work, etc. They charge a $20/night "resort fee" on top of the advertised rate, which I find unethical and a rip-off. So when comparing prices to other locations, be sure to factor that in. The location, however, is fantastic - you can walk to the ski hills, it's on a pristine Muskoka lake and I liked the walking in the area. It's about a 10 minute drive into town. The neighbouring resort is much nicer but more expensive and difficult to book in peak times. So if you can live with some shabbiness, it's not a terrible place to stay. The food in the restaurant is only ok but you could also go next door or into town for some meals. There are other waterfront resorts in the area but they are more remote. There are several chain hotels in town but they are not waterfront. So it depends on what's important to you. I found most of the staff trying their best but the resort offers bare minimum service and amenities. I would not stay here again, the overall feeling of the place is negative.

I was excited to share an experience at Hidden Valley with my extended family so rented 3 rooms but the end result was overpriced and underwhelming. It’s a tired hotel that doesn’t have robes or slippers in rooms, no access to kettle or microwave, hand rail in pool, shallow end, was broken. Missing a step on ladder in deep end Server added her own tip when I ordered take out at restaurant because she said kitchen staff needed it or it would. One out of her tips😵‍💫. I would not return here.

Jacuzzi not working, none in the resort were. Old dated rooms, no blackout curtain. Old worn out chair in room, terrible tv reception. Continental breakfast was a big bowl of yogurt, hard boiled eggs and Kellogg's cereal for $15 bucks a head

Our family visited Hidden Valley Resort over the March Break and we had a great time. The hotel is centrally located between Huntsville and Algonquin Park where we like to go hiking and cross-country skiing. We love the fact that the resort has a nice restaurant, a big swimming pool, a hot tub, and now a beautiful spa where you can get a massage or other treatments, such as aromatherapy or Reiki. If you’re into downhill skiing, or snowboarding, the Hidden Valley Ski Resort is right across the street! The staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful. And the new manager is always available to answer questions and make your stay as pleasant as possible. We have been here many times before and would highly recommend it to anyone who would like to enjoy a nice family vacation.

What a gem! A two day business trip couldn’t have been more comfortable. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Meeting room had a wall of glass overlooking the ski hills. Staff were very helpful. The biggest surprise was the food - very good indeed! Breakfast and lunch were served in our meeting room, and the quality of the food was excellent (menu had been pre-selected). Dinner however was in the dining room (complete with fireplace!) and all ordered from the menu. The fish tacos were blackened trout, perfectly grilled, with loads of “salad” and a chipotle sauce. My companions’ food looked just as appetizing and everyone remarked on how pleasantly surprised we all were at the quality and variety of the food offered. Extra plus: electrical points in the parking lot for block heaters, but equally available for electric car charging (big plus for me!). Only minus: noisy heating system in the room that cycled on and off every couple of minutes.

We stayed at Hidden Valley Resort in Feb 2022 for a ski race. When one thinks of the Muskoka area and anything associated with the name "Muskoka", there's a high level of expectation. We were at the hotel for a ski race and were looking forward to our first stay. We had originally booked the Comfort Inn down the road but when rooms became available, we quickly cancelled the room and booked at Hidden Valley thinking it would be a better experience. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. When we walked in the room it felt like it was about 30 degrees Celsius. When I looked at the heater, it was on "Low Heat"; as a result, I had to turn the heater off to get the temperature down to a more comfortable level. The problem with turning the heater off was that the room became quite cold in the middle of the night. The heater in Room 105 is much older than the heaters in some of the other rooms and needs an update. In addition to the heating issues, the walls of the room are quite dated and there was a lingering smell of stale beer. The quality and cleanliness of the washroom was also disappointing as the fan did not work, there was hair in the bathtub and the walls definitely needed some repair and updating. I also found an ant in the washroom, which tells me there must be an ant colony somewhere in the lower level of the hotel (it's the middle of winter, there shouldn't be any ants anywhere). The lack of quality and maintenance of the room was not only in our room but in another room where our friends were staying. In their room, a garbage bag of food was left in the refrigerator as well as a lack of cleanliness. This has been noted from other reviews. Following a survey that we completed in 2022, the general manager at the time (Scott Doughty) followed up with an email indicating "On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for failing to exceed your expectations. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you provided to make improvements to ensure we offer an exceptional experience for our guests in the future. I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience." In addition to the survey, I provided the general manager with details regarding our experience. I did not receive an acknowledgement. This year we decided to give the resort another chance. We booked early and reserved a lakeview room with a balcony. When we checked in, we were given a room on the first floor again. We said that we paid extra for a better room with a balcony and were told that the room does have a balcony (it's actually a terrace on the first floor). We asked to be switched but were told that the hotel was sold out. Interestingly, our friends just checked in a few minutes before us and were assigned a first floor room but requested to be moved to a different room, which was likely the room we were supposed to get. Kathy (front desk person) asked us to look at the room and come back if we weren't satisfied. Similar to our previous experience, the entire first floor of the hotel is dated and requires significant cleaning. The whole floor smelled like cigarette smoke. Our room was at the end of the hallway, next to a door that leads immediately to the outside. We entered the room and it also smelled like smoke, felt small and dark. The bathroom was once again not properly cleaned as there was a stain in the shower. We went to the front desk and indicated that we were not satisfied. Kathy (who was in the end quite accommodating) indicated that the hotel was sold out but that there was one room that was "out of service" because of a lock issue. She showed us the room, which was significantly better (bigger and cleaner) than the first floor rooms and how to unlock and lock the room (you had to tap the lock twice with the keycard to open and once to lock) but that didn't always work. Nevertheless, we took the room as it was significantly better than the other room (cleaner and did not smell); however, it still had a similar heater issue as the temperature regulator did not seem to function properly and there was no bathroom fan. We also ate the restaurant for dinner and breakfast buffet; both were very average experiences as we had low expectations. Lastly, the lobby had a garbage can collecting water from a leaky ceiling. A great first impression when you walk into the hotel Contrary to the email from the previous general manager and feedback from the hotel regarding other negative reviews, there does not appear to be any evidence of an attempt to improve the hotel. I would not recommend staying at Hidden Valley Resort.

Bathroom had black {mold} on grout , two strands of hair on hairdryer, patched up holes in bathroom walls, stains on chair and loveseat. Not at all what we were expecting . Former guests items still in bar fridge. Phone had a labelled button for room service. FYI..there is NO room service. So, we ordered for pick up. Ordered an item and staff went to check if they had it available. Ended up hanging up on us. We called back and where told that yes, item was available. Ordered extra sour cream with one item. Husband went to pick up the two items only to be told the first item not available. Ordered a substitute and was told staff would deliver to our room. Waited 25 mins for this{salad} and husband went back to restaurant only to be greeted by a very snippy staff member. Seemed she was mad that someone was told to bring food to our room. Husband picked up food and what do you know, they forgot the sour cream completely! Unbelievable. Pool was freezing and hot tub was cold. Time to shut this old relic down. Will not be back.
