It's a a typical three star hotel for room condition and comfort. We appreciated the staff who were generally friendly and tried their best to help out. The laminate flooring in our "pet-friendly" room was cleaner looking and smelling than having carpet. Now the bad: The kids were not impressed with the very cold indoor pool. When the manager was asked about it, he stated, "just go in, they'll get used to it". My friends reported that the hot tub was a "tepid tub", about as warm as the pool should have been. Lastly, there really needs to be microwave ovens in the rooms, how else do you reheat the kids half-eaten, $22 hotel restaurant mac and cheese dinner?

Thank you for your time in completing the review. Your comments will help us provide better service for all our future guests. It is disappointing to read that we did not meet your expectations. I can assure you that we do not take this lightly and will review everything in details so we can serve better to our guest. We do have a microwave on second floor for guest to use. I do hope that you can return and allow us to redeem ourselves in the very near future.

I was expecting more from this hotel given the Ascend Hotel strapline of historic, boutique and one of a kind hotels. The room waas very tired with pictures missing from the wall and holes in the bathroom wall. Furthermore an additional charge of $30 per day was applied to use of WIFI, parking (there is nowhere else to park), use of pool etc. Given the location of the hotel these should all have been included in the room price so I feel a bit ripped off (particularly as did not use many of the facilities). This charge was not clear on the Choice Booking website.
On the positive side the hotel is in a great location, the staff were great and the restaurant/bar were reasonably priced and the food was nice.

The grounds of this resort need some TLC as they are in poor shape. The beach on the day of our arrival was almost unusable due to Goose droppings, garbage, used towels and the loungers ( many broken) scattered all over, the sand needed to be "dressed" make it at least look better. The canoes, pedal boats etc. all unavailable as there was no staff to hand out vests, oars etc. The staff are pleasant but badly overworked (the room cleaner in the morning was our waitress at night!!) so consequently the cleanliness suffered inside & outside. Dinner at night took over two & a half hrs to be served. Our second night as we were about to order they said the ovens broke down so they could not make us anything, they then ordered pizza from a local store!!! Apart from the obvious lack of staff there also seemed to be a lack of supervision, "cleaned" rooms not checked to see if the met standards, (they were not) restaurant staff, apparently not assigned an area to serve. My wife ordered tea & cheesecake, got the tea but were told the slice of cheesecake was "in-line behind five other tables dinner orders" !!!! We patiently explained to the young waitress that we should not have to wait until five tables dinners were made before getting a slice of cake!! An older waitress heard, she went & got the cake!! The biggest surprise was that they now have a $20 per day resort fee for use of their "amenities" such as "The Beach or pool" etc. There was only two or three canoes available as we were told the other 8 or so were "broken" although nobody appeared to be fixing them, the two boys played on their phones and threw a football around. Apparently they have only one older maintenance man for the whole resort!! On the plus side, the food we did manage to get was very good.

Had a wonderful stay at Hidden valley resort. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious with a view. Fabulous amenities including a spa, Hot-tub, dry sauna, beach, indoor and outdoor pool, and restaurant. Don’t miss the dinning experience. Jazen in the morning was very friendly. Charlean at the front desk check me in and was very professional. At check out, angie was extremely nice. Phil was very professional and checked on us when we had dinner. The menu is unique and the wine diverse. Massage with the RMT was heavenly. I forgot his name. Love the hospitality and the staff. Rooms are clean and was quiet big. View were perfect and enjoyed morning coffee in the balcony. This was our second stay and would love to keep coming back.

I booked our reservation through reservation website we paid $269.00 a night and upon arrival we find out we have to pay an additional $30.00 to utilize the amenities? Being the pool, Beach, tennis courts etc. To make you feel better about charging you the $30.00 they offer you a $25.00 coupon for their Spa !!!! If it’s any indication of the condition of the hotel I definitely wouldn’t want a treatment there!!!We didn’t check in until 4:00 and leaving the next morning at 11:00. When you are paying that kind of money for accommodations it’s ridiculous to have to pay to use the pool and other amenities. There are no elevators so we have to carry our suitcases downstairs and the hallways smell like urine!!!! We arrive in our room and my husband finds 2 long black hairs in the sink. This place needs an overhaul!!!!! I would rate it as a one star if that. The beds were very uncomfortable!!!! We will never stay here again!!!

We’ve stayed at Hidden Valley twice now, both times we had a great experience! We first came in Summer 2021 and just now in October 2022. I’ve provided a breakdown below

Location:
The location of this facility is fantastic, it’s a short drive to the main food/shopping area of Huntsville. Not only that, the property is on a small lake with its own beach area for guests. When we stayed in the summer the facility offers free kayaks, paddle board, pedal boats, etc. There is also a swimming pool, basketball court and more. During our fall visit we booked balcony room and had a fantastic view of the lake to see all the fall colours.

Staff:
The staff at this location is awesome! Everyone was very helpful and kind during our stays. In the summer, staff working on the beach were friendly and helping guests out with the water activities. The restaurant staff during breakfast was great too! Evan was extremely friendly and helpful during our most recent stay. He promptly helped us with a mix up with our rooms and ensured our new room was also clean before we moved there.

Facility:
The facility is really big! As mentioned, with their own beach area with a lake, skiing hills, swimming pool, basket ball court balconies restaurant with a view and more. This facility has a lot to offer. Guests should be aware it is an older facility and they may not find brand new amenities. That being said there is free wifi, heated floors in the washrooms and we always received a clean room. As mentioned earlier, when moving rooms (wanted a better view!) Evan made sure that the new room was clean and prepared before we moved there - we never experienced a dirty room/washroom on either of our stays. We also ate at the breakfast restaurant for both of our stays and enjoyed it both times!

Overall:
This is a great facility with a great location, Huntsville gets very busy with tourists and the hotel staff tries their best to help in any way. This is a great spot if you want to visit near by parks and enjoy the town of Huntsville!

This was once a luxury resort but it appears that not one cent has been spent on upgrading the hotel. I didn't find it dirty like others have written but because the place is tired, it feels that way - discoloured grout, torn furniture, damaged lamp shades, fireplace in room that didn't work, etc. They charge a $20/night "resort fee" on top of the advertised rate, which I find unethical and a rip-off. So when comparing prices to other locations, be sure to factor that in. The location, however, is fantastic - you can walk to the ski hills, it's on a pristine Muskoka lake and I liked the walking in the area. It's about a 10 minute drive into town. The neighbouring resort is much nicer but more expensive and difficult to book in peak times. So if you can live with some shabbiness, it's not a terrible place to stay. The food in the restaurant is only ok but you could also go next door or into town for some meals. There are other waterfront resorts in the area but they are more remote. There are several chain hotels in town but they are not waterfront. So it depends on what's important to you. I found most of the staff trying their best but the resort offers bare minimum service and amenities. I would not stay here again, the overall feeling of the place is negative.

Thank you very much for taking time out to review our resort and for staying with us. We are in process of making lots of improvement. We will replace all carpets to hardwood floors, new wallpapers, fresh new paint and all furniture changed or replaced. I am very sorry to hear that our restaurant food was not up to your standards. We will work hard on improving our culinary experience. It's always a good sign when our guests are already looking forward to their next visit. The feeling is mutual: we look forward to having you back!

My brother and I booked this hotel last minute on a motorcycle trip. We saw online that they had a pool table, arcade games, hot tub, restaurant and bar. We booked a room with two double beds. When we arrived we were soaking wet because it was pouring rain and we just wanted to get to our room and get changed and make our way to the hot tub. The first room that they gave us only had one bed. We went back to the front desk and ask for a different room. The second room that we were given had all of the dirty laundry from the previous guests in a pile on the floor. This leads me to assume that the room wasn’t very well clean because it would make sense to vacuum at the end once everything is out. There was a large spider in the shower. We made our way to the hot tub which was pretty well equivalent temperature to the pool may be a couple degrees warmer. Definitely not hot tub temperature. The restaurant was Buffay only and the restaurant and bar closed at 9 PM. It also stated online that they had an ATM machine which they didn’t. We wanted to get cash out for the vending machine since we didn’t make it in time to have dinner at the restaurant but that wasn’t an option either. We decided we would order pizza and play pool and arcade games while we waited for it. But much to our surprise there wasn’t a pool table or arcade games available. This is the only reason we booked this hotel was so we would have something to do in the evening. It’s called a resort we figured there would be entertainment especially with the price that we paid. It was way over priced even if those amenities were available it was still a bit ridiculous. I booked this through Hotels.com and when I complained to them they contacted management at the hotel and they were unwilling to offer any compensation for the lack of amenities. I would not recommend staying here unless you are just looking for an expensive place to sleep that’s isolated from everything that downtown Huntsville has to offer.

Absolutely, not the worth your money. Worst pillows, whoever you are, cannot understand their invoice. I had deposited $198, on booking for a room for 2 nights, my charge was approx $200 per night+ taxes, I got a pending charge hold of $598, the night before my check in. Net amount to be refunded was no where to be seen on invoice. Upon checking in, we were greeted with strict conditions of extra charges we may incur, on so many issues which doesn't need such communication, all in all except for the excellent location, it was disappointing experience Look

I was excited to share an experience at Hidden Valley with my extended family so rented 3 rooms but the end result was overpriced and underwhelming. It’s a tired hotel that doesn’t have robes or slippers in rooms, no access to kettle or microwave, hand rail in pool, shallow end, was broken. Missing a step on ladder in deep end Server added her own tip when I ordered take out at restaurant because she said kitchen staff needed it or it would. One out of her tips😵‍💫. I would not return here.
