When you come to MacKechnie House, bring your appetite along. The food certainly reflects that Cathryn Thompson, host of MacKechnie House, is also a professional caterer. Breakfasts are delicious and varied. Starters could be Creme Caramel with strawberries, a tall tower of Amaretto - basted Baked Apples or Rhubarb Crumble with Creme Fraiche. The next course might be French Eggs in a Dijon Sauce, Ham with Apricot Mustard and a medley of Sauteed Mushrooms.
We had a lovely stay, the first week-end the Mackenchnie House re-opened after quarantine. Cathryn was a wonderful host that made a to-die-for breakfast, of course, showing off her amazing culinary skills. Our room was very spacious and clean and we slept like babies in the quiet corner of the house.

Wonderful to stay with Cathryn while visiting Cobourg. We lived in this town our first three years of our marriage. Returning and sleuthing out our old haunts was a lot of fun. Tons have changed but the warmth of Cathryn’s welcome brought us right back to the reason we loved living in small town Ontario. The people!!! Thanks for the lovely breakfast, Carter snuggles and great hospitality.

My husband and I had the great opportunity to stay here for the night. Cathryn greeted us as we arrived and gave us a little tour and showed us to our room. The home is such a beautiful and serene place to stay and the rooms are quite large and comfortable. The breakfast that was included in our stay was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back again!

This is a lovely historic home within easy walking distance of Cobourg downtown. We enjoyed having a very quiet, clean, comfortable room and a wonderful breakfast. We were fortified for the day. Cathryn is welcoming and knowledgeable about the area.

MacKechnie House is a 18's century beautiful home, located 3 minutes by car from Cobourg city center (historic center) or 10 to 15 minutes walking distance, in a quiet area. We got a really nice and spacious bedroom with a beautiful garden view. The bedroom and bathroom were really clean and we also had a small kitchen area to keep some drinks in a small refrigerator. The breakfast was delicious and Cathryn was always helpful and friendly. The wifi was working well and we could work in the living room with our computers. We totally recommend this place for those are looking for a quiet place to stay. It was a great experience. Eli: 5 / Serge: 5

Although we’ve been to Cobourg to visit a dear friend many times, this was our first stay at Cathryn’s marvelous historic inn. She was a most gracious host whose breakfasts were first class. And her special cooking demonstration class was outstanding too. The ambiance of the inn was wonderful and quaint. Everything you could ask for was there. We loved our room on the main floor that overlooked the lush back gardens.

We had yet another lovely stay at the Mackechnie House. Located in a 19th C home, the house has maintained many of its beautiful features from a bygone era. It is very comfortable. Cathryn is an outstanding inn keeper who is happy to look after her guests without being intrusive. The breakfast is worth the prices of admission.

We stayed one night at Mackechnie House after a wedding in Cobourg. The house is wonderful with lots of original features that give it warmth and character. Our room faced the front and was very quiet. The large room had an ensuite with shower and tub. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was perfect for the hot, humid night. We weren't there that long so the missing TV didn't bother us (for longer stays it might have). The best part for us was the breakfast which Cathryn served. It was very unique and tasty and filled us up for the day!

Loved our stay at MacKechnie! Cathryn was a fabulous host. Our bedroom on the ground floor was big to accommodate us and a toddler cot, washroom was very roomy, comfortable and super clean. I am usually afraid of water pressure but it was perfect. Breakfast was de-li-cious! We were so lucky! Other than that, we had to drive downtown and find a parking spot - walking is a bit far.

This B&B was a great choice for a visit to Cobourg. It's located in a quiet residential area but a quick drive, on a very direct route, gets you to the downtown/lakefront district. The home has lots of character. The Mrs. Fortune suite on the second floor - 2 windows to the front - is a large room. Original wood floor in the ensuite bathroom gave it more charm. Cathryn is a very kind host.
