We stayed here for a mini honeymoon at the beginning of June 2021. Let me start off by saying the resort is in a beautiful location. The beach is great-we loved the free access to kayaks, canoes, paddle boards. The dock was also lovely. Lots of lounge chairs, umbrellas and Muskoka chairs for relaxing in. The restaurant was running smoothly for takeout and both our meals we ordered were delicious. We booked a Studio Lakeview Room. The view is somewhat obstructed by trees but the balcony was a great place to have our meals, enjoy our money coffee and just hang out.

Now for the less positive things. Yes, we chose to travel during the pandemic, however there was no information provided prior to our trip on the resort's website or social media pages re: jacuzzi and pool being closed, firepits were not allowed to be used, the spa not being open (even for massages with RMT's even though you can visit your own RMT in your home city), the restaurant only being open for lunch and dinner and which hours they are open in. We emailed the spa prior to our trip-no response. Not even to say "Sorry we are not currently operating due to COVID".

Our room was in a great location with parking right out front so carrying bags far was not an issue. However, there was leftover old coffee in our coffeepot (I am hoping the previous guests just left the room earlier that day), there are no recycling bins just a garbage can but there were extra bags so we put our recycling in there. The room had a small kitchenette however if you're going to charge us $400+ per night then you should probably make sure there are 2 wine glasses and salt (not just pepper) and to make sure the plates don't have food caked on them and there is no leftover coffee from a previous guest.

I will also warn any potential guests that the floors seem to be pretty thin and we could hear the people above us late into the night and first thing in the morning. I've never had that issue staying at a hotel before.

We did not want to make our trip about complaining to the front desk about these things so we made do and made sure to clean everything ourselves before and after using them. Some things in my review would certainly be different if we went outside of COVID restrictions but we have stayed at other hotels during COVID and have had very pleasant experiences.

Hello Aggiebee22, Thank you for choosing to stay at Touchstone Resort and providing your honest feedback. Providing the highest level of hospitality is our number one priority and we sincerely apologize for falling short of meeting your expectations. Our website does mention that we are following provincial guideline and does mention the Spa is currently not operating. Also, we suggest to call the Front Desk for any updates now that Phase 1 will open. Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us during these unusual times.

My family stayed at the Touchstone in August for 5 days. The resort itself is very pretty with lots of different places to relax (two pools, beach, swim dock). However, we had several hiccups. First, I read about the floods in the Muskoka region and emailed the resort in May to ask if it had suffered damage and was told there was no damage. I then discovered that the boat dock area had been completely destroyed and was under construction, which was very disappointing to say the least. However, I was offered a very nice discount for the issue, so I do think they did a good job of making up for a very clear mistake.

However, despite the fact that the resort has five hours between check out time (11 am) and check in time (4 pm), we didn't get into our room until nearly an hour after guaranteed check in time! We had arrived a bit early (2 pm) hoping to get in early. That wasn't possible, which I understood but to then not get in until an hour after guaranteed check in is not acceptable! Not when you are paying $700 a night! When I complained, I was basically told that as I already had been given a discount, nothing else would be forthcoming.

The biggest problem came one evening at 11:30 pm. We heard loud banging at our door. At that time of night, my husband wasn't just going to open the door. The person said he was maintenance and that the people below said there was a leak. My husband said he wouldn't open the door without a call first from the front desk. So we didn't open the door but we do go check the bathrooms. We found that the toilet in our kids' bathroom was running (but no leak). I think the people below could hear the toilet running and it was bothering them but it is not okay to wake other guests up at 11:30 pm because a toilet is running! When we complained the next morning, the woman at the desk was not sympathetic nor apologetic about us being awoken for a running (not leaking) toilet. In fact, she basically told us we were in the wrong for not opening the door to the maintenance person!

I am holding the resort to a higher standard given the high price of our two bedroom suite ($700 a night for a two bedroom suite). Thus, the three star review.

This was our third trip to this resort and we were so glad we came back - we needed the break. We haven’t been able to get away and decided to return because we were here over a year ago and loved it...again! The service at the restaurant was fantastic and we felt very safe. We had a two bedroom unit with a fantastic view - even though the weather was cool we just chilled in our room and went for walks. The room seemed new and was very clean and comfortable. There was a strong smell of cleaner when we arrived which we actually appreciated. Lol
It’s hard to find nice places close to the city where you can just chill and get away from everything. We felt rejuvenated when we got back home

We just returned from a quick three day getaway for my birthday. Unfortunately, we thought that Touchstone was going to be a resort experience and not a rented condo experience. When we arrived at check in time (4pm) our room was not ready as they said they were still sanitizing the room, hmmm. We were given the room at 4:30 and upon entering the unit it did smell of cleaning products. I immediately went to use the washroom and the floor was soaking wet, there was hair on the toilet seat and old drips/stains on the walls. I really tried not to be dissatisfied and go back to the front desk and ask for a cleaner room so I went and got the sanitizing wipes that I brought and cleaned the bathroom myself. As I looked at hand prints and drips on the walls I wondered if they were stains or just not wiped? Again my own sanitizing wipes cleaned off the marks. Clearly no hotel management or housekeeping supervisor double checks the cleaning that is being done. The couch cushions were arranged in any fashion with zippers to the outside of the couch and upside down, certainly not what I expected from a resort. Only one bath towel and one had towel per person was provided; if we needed more we needed to go to the front desk. The clock on the bedside table was unplugged and had a layer of dust on it.

Finally, we could hear the occupants of the unit above us walk around and when they showered it sounded like they were in our unit. The balcony over looking the lake offered a very pretty view of Lake Muskoka but they are not private. Your neighbours could walk through all the balconies if needed.

Even though the resort looks really nice, be aware you are not getting a resort experience and we won’t be back.

Hello hig64 Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your stay. It sounds as though we did not deliver the standard of service that our resort sets for ourselves, and for this I apologize. I wish you had connected as soon as you checked in as we would have been pleased to put you in a different room or even send our cleaning staff back to your unit. We greatly appreciate your feedback and I hope you will consider returning

Poor management and very low customer service made us unhappy and unsatisfied.
Majority of rooms are located in a walking distance from the beach, at night time lack of lights in main drive way (only way to get to the beach), where cars also driving, makes it unsafe to walk mainly for families with kids. Not paying attention to this common sense and basic safety consideration is enough to say that this resort is managed poorly and not worth it.
If you can imagine how frustrated is that when you call front desk so many times to order room supplies, then give up and walk all along at night to get room supplies, then when you complained no apology was made, and you were asked to wait in the lobby to get your stuff! Paid a very high price per night but received motel type service!
NOT RECOMMENDED!

Hello Abbss1343 Thank you for leaving feedback from your recent stay. I was very disappointed to read of your experience during your stay with us. Whilst as apology will regrettably not alter the outcome of your experience on this occasion, I do extend it with all sincerity. I certainly empathise regarding the points you mention in your email, especially the poor service you received as a result. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it’s apparent in this case, we fell short. Please reach out to me directly at reservations@touchstoneresort.com should you wish to visit again.

My husband planned a special celebration after staying at the resort for a night last January. Upon arrival the grounds were beautiful and the hotel was clean. My husband was disappointed as the day before he had called as instructed by the booking staff when he booked to make dinner reservations that he was unable to do so because there was a wedding booked in the restaurant on site. My husband had explained at the time of booking it was our anniversary that he wanted a resort we didn’t have to leave including our meals and he was assured it was not a problem.

The day of the wedding we came back from our spa treatments to 35+ people 8 feet below our patio drinking having a great time as they should under normal circumstances for a wedding. No one was in masks, music pumping , vulgar language flowing. My husband was so disappointed as he had planned to cook us a meal on the bbq on the private terrace each room has since the restaurant was occupied and many in town were closed. When we requested to be moved to a different room we were told all the rooms were were booked. When we expressed concerns that COVID protocols weren’t being followed for outdoor gatherings we were dismissed by hotel management and desk clerk. Working for Public Health this was a huge concern and these measures are in place for a reason. It’s the hotel’s responsibility to enforce it.

Even though the OPP said the hotel would be fined and each attendee we didn’t pursue the option as we didn’t want to spoil the couples day and this was the resorts fault. Clearly this resort has a complete disregard for their guests health and safety and guidelines set forth by Public Health and the Ontario government. We will not be back.

Some photos of the the COVID violations some guests were obstructed from our rooms view.

Good afternoon 424amanday Thank you for your candid review in regards to your most recent stay. The safety and security of our guests is always our top priority. As discussed in previous conversations, our team consistently follows the provincial guidelines directed by the Provincial Government in regards to the gathering limits and all COVID-19 protocols. Due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, effective September 19, 2020, the provincial government changed gathering limits for "unmonitored" events and social gatherings. The wedding you noted on Saturday was indeed a "monitored" event which means it was staffed and was a supervised event. The wedding gathering was attended by 40 people which is below the 50 allowed. . The function on the deck was no longer then 1.5 hours of which guests are allowed to drink and eat with out a mask. Guests had masks on when entering and leaving the dining room area and mandated to wear a mask while on a washroom break. Our staff was 100% wearing masks at all times. And please note that for all guests, dining room patrons, and wedding guests, we record information for contact tracing. In accordance with Ontario Regulation 364/20, which applies to a business, we were in compliance Thank you for your kind comments that the grounds were lovely and everything was clean.

Just returned from a three night trip and unfortunately will not return.

The redeeming factor for touchstone is its setting on beautiful lake Muskoka.

Unfortunately the complete lack of service and cleanliness let the location down.

Check in /out
Staff were a bit unwelcoming on arrival. No greeting when arriving at front desk. Room was not ready at 4pm. Staff were to call when ready and never did-we had to follow up. Late check out granted for 1130 but keys stopped working at 11 anyway and we were locked out of the room.

Room
Lakeview studio rooms are tiny. Our room was also not clean. The carpet was filthy and stained. There was visible dirt. I ended up cleaning the room myself on arrival because if the carpet is that dirty how clean are the other surfaces? No daily housekeeping but also no pick up for used towels or replenishing of linens. Duvet has no cover-just between two sheets-unsanitary if the duvet itself is not being laundered between guests.

Infinity Pool/hot tub
Dirty. Visible green algae in infinity pool and dirt/brown grime in hot tub
No towels available at pool. Front desk has those.

Dock and beach areas
Some construction near beach but we didn’t find it too disruptive. Consider turning down the music at Bobs, we heard other guests comment it was too loud and we had to agree.

Restaurant
Food was tasty. Service friendly if slow (waited over an hour for food and then 25 mins for bill). Nice view

We really did not see any staff around other than front desk and restaurant. It really doesn’t appear that the resort is maintained by anyone on a daily basis.

Overall, the value is just not there for the money. I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing properties from a mom and pop motel to Jade Mountain Resort and at over $500 a night the value just isn’t there for Touchstone. A bunch of somewhat minor missteps really do add up! This place has so much potential but at the moment I would call this a condo complex rather than a resort and sadly will not return.

We had our wedding on October 3rd at Touchstone Resort. From the moment we went to visit the property just 5 short weeks prior to our wedding we fell in love not only with the gorgeous property but with the delicious food. We met with Michael and his confidence in being able to plan a wedding in 5 weeks, willingness to answer all our questions, adapt to our needs and keep us in the loop of any Covid restrictions was much appreciated. Michael put our minds at ease as he took care of the delicious menu, chair set up, coordinating with the florist and cake delivery and making sure the day ran smoothly. We received multiple compliments on the venue and the food. The resort was beautiful! We were upgraded to a One Bedroom Lakeview room. The bed was very comfortable, the room was very clean with a spectacular view and the perfect place to enjoy a mini-moon after the wedding. We enjoyed the free Kayaks during our stay and visited the Touchstone Grill for dinner which was delicious. It was the perfect wedding and the perfect getaway. We can't wait to visit again!

Great place jus to sleep and to enjoy the view below on the dock but not on the balcony because the view is blocked by all the many trees. I will say the bed was the one thing that was pleasurable and the check-in experience with the 2 young people at front desk very polite and courteous.

I have travelled to many places over the world and stayed in a few hotels and I know for a fact that I think it’s false advertisement to call it a Touchstone Resort a resort when u don’t even get a complimentary breakfast after spending so much a night.
My room phone did not work the whole 2 days I was there, the water while showering slowly took time to drain so u there standing in a puddle of soapy water! Also room was not cleaned properly! I think hotel/condo is way over priced for what is offered basically jus a place to sleep!
