If you are looking for the Ritz, drive by. There is no doubt that our room was not new however everything and everyone at this motel far surpassed any service that we have ever received (and we are pretty well travelled). The staff cannot do enough and go above and beyond for the slightest request. Our room was spotless and the grounds well kept. The breakfast was perfect and we will definitely be back.

Response from Susanne Giebels, General Manager at Lakelawn B&B Motel
Responded Apr 20, 2021
Good afternoon, on behalf of the owner, who had just taken over the business a couple of months before your stay, I would like to thank you for this great review. We sure are not the Ritz, but I am glad to read that you have had a very pleasant stay at this beautiful place. As the new Manager I would love to welcome you in the future. We are working on more improvements. We hope to see you again.

Staying at this hybrid B&B and motel was taking a trip back in time to a kinder, more gentle place with genuinely warm and friendly people. This quaint and cozy motel is very clean and impeccably maintained. Rooms are decorated in simple and plain furnishings. Do not confuse the four and five ratings Lakelawn receives with those ratings given to large, sterile luxury resorts. This is not that kind of place. This is about an ambiance and feeling you get knowing that the staff truly appreciate your business. A place where you feel more like family than just a guest.

I liked this place. We stayed in the motel and the rooms are quite adequate. The wood panelling made it feel comfortable, and the main house has some character. Fridge and microwave are handy. Hubby did not find bed comfortable but I was fine. Wifi was OK, better in some rooms than others. The manager was very friendly and all staff were helpful. They plan to open up a restaurant for dinner in the future. I only had one hot breakfast (for an extra $10) as it was terrible (perhaps a bad day for the cook?), and the complimentary continental breakfast was nice. Home baked goods, cereals and yogurt. It is on the edge of town so you do need a car. Yarmouth itself has little to offer, although the area does. The price was great and I would definitely stay here again rather than one of the chain places in town.

After an employee at the Tourism Information Centre called to check availability we proceeded to the motel. The front door was open but there wasn’t anyone there to check us in. We rang the buzzer on the front desk and still no one came. We then phoned the number and it rang to the front desk where we were. After someone answered they said that someone would be there soon. After waiting between 15-20 minutes and just about to leave someone drove in. After checking in we were given a room key and a key for the front door, that gets locked at 10:00PM. Went into the room and there was hardly any toilet paper and there weren’t any curtains or blinds on the window. The man at the front desk told us to move to another room which had window coverings such as they were all broken slates on the blinds. We then went to go out and thankfully thought to check the front door key because the key we were given didn’t work. Since there wasn’t anyone to help we just rummaged through the keys on the desk and found one that worked. The room was clean but the toilet kept running all night long. My husband went to find someone to fix this issue and again there wasn’t anyone there. So again he looked for a tool to fix the toilet himself. The toilet paper is nothing better than cheap tissue paper you would buy at the dollar store. There was no breakfast offered and no hair dryer. The ONLY good thing was the bed was comfortable. If you choose to stay here GOOD LUCK!!

Just turned up to check in and the place is deserted. Vacancy sign is on but there’s a note on the door saying they aren’t accepting walk ins. We’d booked weeks ago so tried calling the number left on the door sign but was told the number is out of service. Web site no longer works either. Place looked very tired and not a single car in the car park. Tried cancelling my booking online but too late to cancel. Have reported it to my booking agent. Will not be impressed if they try to charge me. Had to scramble around to find somewhere else to stay after driving all day. Not impressed.

The rooms were clean, but the showers very small and shower head mounted too low for taller people (5' 9"). Sink was tiny and wiggled. Breakfast was bagged and coffee was bad. This hotel is way overpriced for what is being offered. Discount is offered to people who give good reviews, I'm guessing I'm not getting it.

Stayed one night for a quick business trip. Grounds and rooms are clean and comfortable. Had a room in the "tower" for an upgraded breakfast. WiFi is pretty good for email and basic web surfing. No A/C but stayed in Room 6 which had a nice southerly breeze come through the room. Will stay again.

Old B&B so do not expect top-rated accommodations. Prices are low so that makes this an overnight nice adventure. Queen beds only - no Kings. Breakfast was not "to order" but did consist of scrambled eggs, 6 slices of thin crispy bacon, toast, fruit and coffee. Nice staff but they did not explain the morning dinning process. Took a while to figure it out. Did not get a restful sleep because of temperature/fan/light inconsistencies.

We loved our stay! Our room was spacious and clean and we were happy we could bring our dog. Both mornings we enjoyed the hot breakfast which included generous amounts of scrambled eggs and bacon (enough that we could save slices for our dog too!). The employees were very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!

This is a lovely little inn, with kind help, convenience to the ferry and a marvelous breakfast. It is only about two or three minutes ride from the ferry docking and the perfect spot to stay overnight before pushing on to all the other places to visit in Nova Scotia. After an unusually bumpy ride on the CAT, we were so happy to get to Lakelawn and the hospitality they showered us with.

It isn't fancy, but rather a very gentle place to unwind and spend a night in a place that feels like home.
