Stayed here for one night after returning on the ferry from Port-aux-Basques. It is a short driving distance from the ferry terminal and appeared to be popular for that reason. There were a number of parties checking in after that crossing. The property is conveniently located on the Trans Canada highway. The buildings are set back from the road We didn't find traffic noise to be an issue. The room was clean and large. There was a small kitchenette in the room that included a mini fridge and microwave. The bed was comfortable and everything was in good repair. Would recommend.

On a recent friends trip to Cape Breton we stayed at MacNeil’s Motel. The rooms were spotless and had all the amenities that one requires for being on the road. The owners brought a BBQ outside our room when we indicated we had food to cook. Friendly location and well situated. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an overnight or even longer location.

This motel was one of the best you can find for clean, modern service and excellent value. The Beauty Rest beds gave a perfect sleep! Don't miss it! There was two rows of attached cottages set back from the highway by a large manicured lawn. The office is in the front of the home which is in front of the cottages. Very tidy.

Room Tip: We stayed in a front cottage but were not awakened by the highway traffic.

We have quite a history with this motel. My husband and I have vacationed in Newfoundland during July for many years. We always stayed here before we crossed on the ferry and after we crossed back. Then I suppose the schedule changed and we crossed overnight and got a cabin on the ferry for years. We were unsure about traveling after the Covid closures but missed our friends in Newfoundland and the scenery and the food so much that we made a last minute decision to go. This caused a problem--almost impossible to get berths on the ferry and as we are now seniors, we need a place to lie down. We took whatever reservations we could and ended up staying at MacNeil's again both on the way there and the way back so you will be treated to a lot of photos. The motel is now run by the previous owner's son and his wife. We enjoyed our stays again. There is parking right by your room. The rooms are a nice size and clean. The bed is comfy, there is a flat screen TV, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Plenty of fluffy towels in the clean bathroom and plenty of grassy area for kids to play. It felt like going home again. Good memories. Thanks for a great stay.

I stay here every time I head over to Newfoundland and when I come back at the end of the trip. It is a quick 5 minute drive to the ferry.

The rooms are always clean, the beds are super comfortable. The rooms are plain, but functional. There is always plenty of hot water, though with a slight sulphur smell. Not a big deal as I have a chalet and am used to it. They are pet friendly and my dogs love to go for a walk on the large property.

Highly recommended for anyone in the area needing a clean, quiet place to stay for a night or 2

What a great motel to stay at. Very reasonable price, nice and clean. A little far away from Sydney by taxi 🚕. Went to North Sydney instead. Not much to do there, had a nice evening with the locals at the local Legion. Ate at the A&K Lick A Chick down the road, the chicken 🐔 was the best I've ever tasted.

We have stayed at this motel a couple of times in the past and have felt it was okay. This time was different. We don’t watch a lot of T.V. but the remote wouldn’t work…no volume and when we called the front desk ( internet says hours are open until 10:00p.m.) and there was no answer we gave up.
We are disappointed and will not be staying here again.

It's just a road motel, but it's perfect for what it is. Stayed the night before the ferry crossing. Renovated - very clean, comfortable, nice shower, nice bed. Great value. Would absolutely stay again.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced, clean, comfortable room in a place with good wifi, you've found it. Parking space included with hair dryer, coffee maker, mini fridge, tv, and microwave.

Appreciated the advice on things to do on our upcoming journey.

Across the street from Kitchen 1409 & Celtic Country Market if you need a GPS location.

MacNeil's is located on the highway leading to North Sydney and the Newfoundland Ferry. We found it friendly, nice, large, upgraded rooms with excellent wifi reception. Walls are thin as previously noted (loud thumps in the middle of the night from room next door). The motel badly needs a better sign as we drove right by and then no one answered the phone to give us directions. Other minor improvements could include a second bedside table and bedside lamps. Overall, a good find for its price. A decent restaurant just down the way with a wonderful view.
