Overall pretty good for the price! Likely the cheapest we could’ve found in the area at this time. The rooms were old and a bit dated but beds were comfy & we had all the amenities we needed! Even a stove if we needed! Rooms were extremely clean too. Front desk staff was very kind and friendly as well.
Stay was comfortable and nice and quiet!

I stayed here over a weekend as part of a sports team group. When the team manager arranged the group booking, she was apparently told by the motel operator that the motel was very busy that weekend and that we should all confirm our rooms ASAP, for fear of losing them in the meantime. When we were there, the place was practically deserted but for our group. Evidently the other guests didn't materialize, or the operator was creating a false sense of urgency.

I arrived late, but I was able to check in without difficulty.

The motel is made up of a few buildings surrounding the parking areas. There is plenty of open green space around three sides of the hotel, which is handy for pets, teenagers, etc.

The room was basic but clean. It included a kitchenette. Other members of the group told me that some of their walls had holes in them, but our walls were not holed. There was a very good selection of channels on the TV. The wifi was included in the room rate, and the download speed was acceptable. The air-conditioner unit worked well. The bathroom was small.

The staff all were helpful and friendly.

The hotel is on the north side of Highway 16, the main east-west highway. The rail line is on the other (south) side of the highway. If the noise of the occasional train rolling by will disturb you, then you may wish to book elsewhere.

I doubt that I'd stay here again, but not because I was put off by anything in particular during our stay -- merely because I don't mind paying a little more for a little nicer room and facility.

Good night's sleep for under a hundred bucks. Friendly owners. Thought we were going to stay in Smithers, but public drinking parties going on at 4pm near the visitor's center convinced us to drive on.

Terrace felt much more pleasant. Some of the hotels had big rigs staying there, and we used that as a good hallmark. Truckers want a good night sleep at the end of a hard day. Kalum Inn was one of these and we were not disappointed.

Couldn't figure out their restaurant which is only open for 2 hours starting at 4pm, and was empty even then. But we found a great evening meal nearby at an upscale grill.

Accommodation was very adequate. Nothing fancy. Newly renovated rooms, everything you needed. Very quiet. But the restaurant, wow, a little pricey but maybe the best Indian food we have ever eaten, all homemade by the Mom, even the cheese. Super friendly staff.
Would definitely stay again.

as i was travelling through terrace today, i decided to shop around for some new places to stay that i have not visited yet... i decided to pull into the kalum motel... upon hitting the buzzer at the office and seniour citizen of eastern descent opend the door to the restaurant and asked what i want?? i said i was cuious about a room for the evening...he said ok, i goto office... walking in i ask if there are any rooms avaible but before that i ask what is that wonderful smell in the restaurant... he exclaims i am cooking!!!... ok.. sorry... so about the room? he says what do you want?????? i say one room for one man....he says how much you want to pay????... i am kinda speechless now but go along with the fun...i say give me your best price? he does... and it's reasonable but i wanted to see the room before walking in blindly.... so he throws me a key as i can see now he is slightly perturbed by my request... i go to see the room... it was nice... but not excatly what i needed.... i cam back to office and said ok, it's nice.... can you give me a little bit.. i am going to visit one more place... he's pissed now i can see... as i hand back the key he literally says to me in front of pther patrons... 'go now, and don't come back'... i pause at the door turn around and say , what did you just say to me? there was an awkward silence for all of us and then he says..." i will see you when you come back"....um ya, sorry no...you will never ever see my business.

for the rcord i have read the reviews and was sincerely excited about the cuisine as i told the man i was a resident of the middle east and have travelled to india, sri lanka etc and the aroma of the office and kitchen were quite enticing... sigh. unfortunate... i find the staff at the best western much more aprreciative of my business and will continue to pay more there than these local mom and pop options....

Located on the outskirts of Terrace heading towards Prince Rupert, the Kalum Motel looks like it got stuck in a 1980s time warp. The colours, room fixtures and furnishings all look like they came from the “big 80s” (and they probably did). Despite that, though, the motel is actually pretty comfortable, clean and affordable; it is, therefore, quite decent for a one or two-night stay.

As far as amenities go, the Kalum Motel has everything that we’ve come to expect of a modern accommodation unit, plus a little bit more: Refrigerator (full-size!), coffee maker, plates, cutlery, cooking stove, flat screen TV, free WiFi, microwave, dishwasher, fully appointed bathroom and ample parking. Granted, the TV stand, bed cover and headboard are all looking rather dated, but they’re clean; besides, I think this retro look helps to give the Kalum Motel a bit more character!

The Kalum Motel also has a fine East Indian restaurant attached: Haryana’s. I’ve written about this eatery elsewhere (see my earlier review on this site), and have been back many times since. Basically, I stand by what I wrote two years ago: “Everything here is homemade, following traditional Indian recipes. And because of that, you typically have to wait a little while for your food and for me that’s a non-issue [. . . .] Everything I’ve ordered here has been excellent.” Indeed, it’s nice to have authentic, traditional East Indian cuisine right at your proverbial doorstep. However, if pub fare is more to your liking, Mumford’s – also excellent – is a short walk down the road.

The only downside I can really see to Kalum Motel is its distance from everything else in town. If you have a vehicle, then this essentially turns into a non-issue because you’ll be a mere few minutes’ from bustling downtown Terrace. If you are sans vehicle, however, you might feel a bit isolated.

In summation, the Kalum Motel is pretty basic, but represents really good value for money. The average price is just $89 a night and rooms do include full kitchenettes. If, like me, you can get past – or even embrace – the 80s era furniture, then you’ll undoubtedly enjoy your stay in this quaint little motel.
