It was reasonably priced for a hotel with pool.

We stayed at the Mountain Retreat Hotel Aug 9-12, 2021. We enjoyed our stay there and would stay again. The staff was friendly. (Side note, if you’re curious… pool depth is 1.1m-1.4m. No diving allowed. Slide is fast if you lay down and slower if sitting up.)

A couple minor notes of our stay… our toilet wouldn’t stop running, the tank gasket was broken (we had to stick our hand in the tank after every flush to stop it) but they fixed it the next morning after we reported it. They did not clean each day. Our garbage filled up fast as it’s the standard tiny cans but since we brought food with us it filled up fast so would of been nice to have it picked up each day. We dealt with it though. New towels would have been nice each day as they didn’t want to dry themselves overnight. I would recommend bringing your own towels. Theirs are like a hand towel size anyways. There were three of us, 2 adults and a child and there were not enough for us so we had to ask for more. Found out later that they have pool specific towels but you have to ask at the desk. Again, they are like a hand towels pretty much. I’d definitely bring our own next time and if you plan to use the pool a lot, maybe bring extra ones. As we didn’t receive cleaning/replenishing every day we had to ask for shampoo/conditioner each day as well as regular coffee (since we were given decaf), not a big deal though. Our room key stopped working on day two so had to have key recoded. Hot tub was unavailable but I assume it’s due to covid restrictions. Pool had one hour limits but I think this was also a covid thing.

Staff handled everything well, just wish we didn’t have to ask for so many things. Would have reused towels but they would never dry. Even our bathing suits always stayed damp even though we hung them to dry every day.

We also had dinner at the attached restaurant one night, it was ok. We tried a Mexican place too one day, wasn’t a fan though; ended up throwing most out. The one place we all really enjoyed was called Flipside Burger. It’s on 2nd St and is a food truck attached to a cider place. It doesn’t stick out well so you wouldn’t know it’s there but if you walk along side the building into the back lane you will see it. It was a good burger. Very cute atmosphere, very rustic.

My husband and recently stayed here and we were at the check in desk for 15 mins waiting to fill out paperwork, only to be told that our room was not ready yet. Will be another 20 mins. We were then rudely awoken at 530 in the morning by the amoke/co2 alarm going off int the room. NOT impressed being woken up 2 hours early. When asked for asked for some compensation, was told no. Both the check in and checkout staff did not seem to know what was going on. Hotel does not seem to enforce or care about the current masks are mandatory in public areas as I saw numerous guests in the lobby and elevator that were not wearing a mask.
The room itself was nice but experience was not. I also asked for a quiet room and was given a room with an adjoining door, not a quiet room at all.

Price was right compared to whistler, room was good sized and the pool is a nice touch. The room and bathroom needed to been cleaner and better maintained. Parking was easy and close by and the restaurant on site would be convenient but seems to close fairly early as it was closed when we checked in.

Thank you for choosing Mountain Retreat Hotel & Suites for your stay and sharing your feedback with us. We are glad that you enjoyed our amenities during your stay. We regret that some areas could have been cleaner and we have raised this issue with our team to ensure they pay extra attention to details when doing their regular cleaning and maintenance. The Timberwolf Restaurant on-site is an independently operated restaurant and so we do not have control of their business hours. Nevertheless, we will certainly pass on your comment to them and appreciate your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Warm regards, MRHS Management

I would like to share my experience during my stay in this lovely hotel.

Check in was easy and quick but still they practice the safety protocol implemented by the government. Safety plastic shield was installed at the front desk, they have sanitizer. Front desk agent was very helpful.
Housekeeping is cleaning and sanitizing every corner of the hotel. Pool is closed which is understandable due to this covid 19 pandemic.

Our room was very clean, comfy beds and enough towels in the washroom. I will definitely comeback and stay again with my family and friends in Mountain Retreat.

Everyone was very helpful.

Super clean and well organized hotel. Serious for Covid-19 measures.
Quick check-in, polite and approachable staff and manager.
Nice sized room, soft/conformable beds- all feels/smells clean and fresh. Quiet location and nice views.
Would definitely recommend a stay!

IT took more than normal to check in (multiple other check-ins, customers had problem with their access cards,…) We asked for quite area, but the room was facing the highway and noisy even with windows closed. Bad pillows and not comfortable beds made it worse to sleep at night.
There was no room service /cleanup available due to Covid (although most of restrictions are lifted and even staff not wearing masks) we were out of supplies with kids and had to go to reception to take the supplies on second day; we got some but for some stuff we were referred to a person in same floor who was cleaning the rooms (not there to help) or to the coffee maker in reception area that was out of supplies... Put the garbage bin and used towels at the door as requested (around 2pm) but they were not removed / cleaned until next day after we checked out. We had much better experience in other hotels during the Covid peaks.
Our door access keys stopped working on second day like the other customer we saw at check-in time (was told that maybe the previous receptionist entered a wrong check out date).
Last summer we stayed there for one night in a room not facing the highway and had better experience, but I do not think we will try this hotel for the 3rd time.

Upon arrival, we were told that the hotel was overbooked and that an alternative room with a king-size bed was available. The room looked as though it had not been cleaned with dirty, stained linen, and only 2 towels. I asked housekeeping if they could clean up and empty the garbage, however they did not speak English. I asked the front desk and was told that housekeeping was not offered in this particular hotel. The shower tap was hanging off the wall, however, we were able to take a shower . Would not stay here again. Too dirty! and unhygienic

What a mess!!!
After 3 confirmation emails and phone calls to the staff regarding my booking for a team that would be staying at this hotel we arrived to find out that they had over booked and 6 of my teammates did not have the suite they were promised, The staff worked hard to find us a room I was told that I would only be charge for the 5 rooms that they did have. Great! They gave us a room with 1 cot and a queen to fit 6 girls in only to find out that they charged me $170.00 for this room when I was told there would be no charge.
The Manager then blamed me for the booking saying I had made an error, I emailed and text the confirmation of 6 rooms including 2 suites. She then told me I was threatening her when I said I would leave a bad review. So I guess here is my threat. Please dont stay here if you wish to have a good experience or want clean rooms.

The pool was disgusting the hot Tub looked like pigs bathed in it.

WHAT A JOKE

Booked room 6 months in advance. Reserved king room.
Checked in shortly after 4pm and was told our room wasn’t ready but they offered us a room which was ready with 2 queen beds so we accepted it.
When we got to the room it was no where near ready. Neither of the beds were made.
Returned to the front desk to let them know and was told that the room was ready, which I confirmed it was not.
Manager went to check and returned and I was informed that they did not have any rooms ready.
Immediately cancelled my reservation and requested the credit card to be refunded and was assured it had been.
Five hours later still no refund showing on the credit card.
My husband informed me that there were other rooms on the same floor with the room doors open and none of those rooms had made beds either.
It boggles the mind that with a check out time of 11am and check in time of 4pm that in 5 hours you cannot have rooms ready. The sign did not indicate “no vacancy” so they weren’t full and they know how many reservations they have so even if they’re not full you’d think they would have enough rooms ready for the the number of daily reservations.
Very poorly run establishment.
Don’t waste your time or money at this place.
On the plus side we were able to find alternate accommodations elsewhere. The place we ended up staying at only had a room available for one night - we wanted 2 nights - and the manager went out of his way to accommodate us.

Really? Why bother with the free soap and shampoo then? Why not have them for sale in the main lobby as well? Because these basic items are a standard for even the dingiest of hotels? Seems like a good enough reason to me. It’s one thing not to have coffee in the room, though very rare, it’s just cheap and greasy to have some garbage water dispenser serving you up your morning coffee for $2 a cup in the main lobby.
The room itself was fine. Neat and tidy as you’d expect a “used to be” best western to be. Pillows are kinda lumpy and thick. It’s your pretty standard hotel, with exception to the daunting task of having to show your face to the outside world, pre coffee.

Thank you for choosing Mountain Retreat Hotel & Suites for your stay and sharing your feedback with us. We have had to make some changes temporarily, such as removing the coffee machines in the rooms, as part of our safety precautions to help stop the spread of COVID19. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope to place the coffee machines back into the rooms shortly once COVID19 threat subsides. We value your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Warm regards, MRHS Management

Is this a pet friendly hotel? If so, are there some pet-free rooms? We have allergies?
Calgary, Canada1 contribution
Thank you for your interests in our hotel. We are a pet friendly hotel with one floor dedicated as pet friendly. All other floors are pet free. If you inform our front desk when placing your booking, we will definitely accommodate you on the pet free floor. However, we cannot guarantee a total pet free environment as the common areas, e.g. elevator and lobby and even some rooms may have had pets in the past.
