Relax and enjoy the amazing view in this first class setting. I am an Executive home overlooking the beautiful Shuswap Lake. There are many things to do here and people from around the world love it here! Fantastic wines, golfing, walking trails, restaurants, sightseeing and beaches. In the fall time we have The Salmon Run. Here the Salmon from the ocean come to lay their eggs and then die off. It really is worth seeing! The fall colors of the leaves are spectacular! In winter we have wonderful powdered snow for Cross Country skiing as well as Snowmobiling. A wonderful time of year as well!

We stayed here for only one night on our way from Calgary to Naramata. Toby provided us with very clear instructions on how to find her place, which was very helpful. She has a beautiful house, and we were conscious before we arrived of her house rules which we found quite understandable, and not in any way inconvenient. The free wireless connection was very good, and very helpful as I had a video call to make when we arrived. Our room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed and a large choice of pillows. We were the only guests that night, so we had our own bathroom which was also a good size and had everything that we might need in terms of shampoo etc. There is a lovely living room on the guest floor, with access to a large patio, which has comfortable furniture with a wonderful view of the garden and the lake beyond - we sat out there in the evening with a glass of wine when we came back from dinner - Toby conveniently provides insect repellent just by the doors out to the patio which we took advantage of. Toby prepared a wonderful breakfast for us in the morning, having checked when we arrived if we had any food restrictions. We enjoyed chatting with her over breakfast, and discovering all her other pursuits, including a small clothing outlet on site. As the weather was turning out to be much hotter that we had expected, my wife took advantage of that opportunity to buy a nice pair of shorts which she wore for the rest of our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay with Toby again if our travels take us that way.

We found this B & B while looking for a motel room and have in the past stayed in bed and breakfasts a few times. The reviews looked good but they would have trouble accurately portraying this beautiful property or it's wonderful host.

The whole home is perfectly appointed and is very much a Boutique hotel experience rather than a run of the mill b&b. Each of the three rooms has its own theme and every consideration has been given to the comfort of the guests.

We stayed in the Adrian Executive Suite and found it quite perfect. The bathroom is not en-suite but it is right outside the bedroom door and as we were the only guests we ran in to no issues sharing.

The breakfast was tailored by our host to our likes and was served with great coffee and wonderful conversation. We were so pleased that Toby, our host, took time to show us around and spell out her expectations. It's easy see that she loves her home and her wish is that all of her guests have the same exceptional experience.

Thank you Toby, we are already looking forward to the next visit!

The Good:
-Lovely location with a beautiful garden and fantastic view. I wish the weather had been warmer so we could have enjoyed the outdoor environments.
-Comfortable bed. Great water pressure in the shower.
-Plenty of parking. Good breakfast, adapted and personalized as requested.

The Bad:
Sharing a bathroom! The Shayna Suite and the Adrian "Executive" Suite share a single bathroom. This is not made clear on either TripAdvisor or bbcanada.com, and it's the one detail I think absolutely should be made clear. If I had known this when booking, I would have gone elsewhere.

Style takes precedence over comfort and practicality in guest rooms. The armchairs in our room were white, with black leatherette antimacassars on back and arms. The duvet cover and dress pillows looked like pieced leather and suede (but may have been pleather and microsuede), and were accompanied by a sign pointing out their quality and the importance of not letting anything touch them. The night tables were covered in leather place mats, topped with a coaster. There was a stylish glass desk, but it was covered in leather placemats and objets d'art, and no chair was provided, so to all practical purposes it's just another display of fine things. We were exhorted not to let anything touch the walls, because it's very expensive to repaint, and there were ugly felt furniture protectors on the wall behind the headboard, presumably in case of vigorous activity there.

Overall, this felt like a show home or trophy case rather than an actual home, and certainly not like a place I felt at home. The owner's taste and convenience take precedence over practicality and guest comfort.

We enjoyed our stay here (very friendly hosts, fabulous breakfast, beautiful house) but there were a couple things that weren’t quite to our expectations:
- their web site on bbcanada.com indicated "private baths". They DO NOT have private baths; there is one bathroom that is shared between the three guest rooms.
- the rooms do not have their own tv. There is a common area with a tv but the tv was not working during our visit (although the hosts did say they'd be replacing it soon).
The above two points are very important to us and we would not have picked this b&b if we'd known these things. Therefore, although other aspects of the b&b were great, we can not personally recommend it.

We thank you for your response, however we would like to clarify a few points. In regards to the bathroom facilities, our website states that we have private and shared bathrooms. We in fact have two bathrooms to facilitate the three rooms we offer. One room is gaurenteed a private bathroom . In the event of another booking that evening, that room would also have a private bathroom. Only in the event that we are fully booked, would one bathroom be shared. This shared bathroom is kept immaculatly clean, sanitized, and checked several times throuhout the day. It is also just a few steps from your either room. So, for the most part, and under normal operating conditions, rooms would have a private bathroom. The television in the common area has been replaced, and now features a 52" wide screen. We have not placed T.V.s in the rooms, as some of the rooms are side by side, and we want to ensure other guests have a peaceful rest and not disturbed by a loud T.V. in the next room. As you may see in other posts, this has not been a problem, and has been appreciated by guests wanting to read in their room, and wanting a quiet, restful evening. We hope prospective guests will enjoy and appreciate this as well.

Had a nice stay in a room with a lovely view and enjoyed the wonderful breakfast. The hosts are kind but be aware that Toby will go over the rules with you (and there are many!) plus she will take the opportunity to try and upsell products and spa services to you. I've stayed at many B&Bs, so I realize that hosts have their own unique quirks which makes the B&B experience memorable. Just know what to expect and this will allow you to enjoy the surroundings.

I am very happy that you enjoyed your overall stay here at Destination Spa Bed & Breakfast. I hope that my reminders provided to our guests when guided through our home are not considered rules, but just as stated, reminders. It would be ideal if all guests were as careful as you were, but I have had incidents where walls were scratched, and linens were stained beyond repair. As I have gone out of my way to provide custom and unique painting throughout our home, in some cases it is near impossible or extremely costly to repair. I provide the best linens I can find, and it is unfortunate when they need to be replaced due to an oversite on a guests part. As I also operate a Day Spa and Gift Shop, we have had guests comment that they were disappointed they did not take advantage of these services. I feel it is my obligation to our guests to offer them the services I provide, so they may enjoy the pampering while visiting. They have also felt that they needed to be invited into our Gift Shop, which is open to all guests. Guest have appreciated the convenience of purchasing a unique/useful gift to take along with them. I want all guests to enjoy the atmosphere I strive to provide, and the efforts I have gone to, to provide a unique and enjoyable experience. Thank you again for your comments, and I hope to see you again. Toby

We were concerned about some of the comments on Tripadvisor but booked in for 4 days, as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we were not dissapointed.
This is a lovely B&B with wonderful hosts and a breakfast that is legendary. The house and bathrooms are extremely clean and the whole wonderful experience is a testament as to how hard the hosts work.
The legendary breakfast is the highligt as we sat on the deck overlooking salmon arm and the lake.We would start with coffee and fruit and move onto eggs or crepes then cheese and fruit.
Ignore the negative comments and and you will see that the rules are just respect for where you are and you will have a wonderful stay for a resonable price.

We were well taken care of during our last minute stay (family emergency) in Salmon Arm. The view from the B&B rooms was the best part of the stay. The breakfast was very good and the suites and common spaces were impeccably clean. The only complaint was around the level of comfort - the rules posted everywhere made for a less-than-relaxed stay. I'm sure they were meant in the spirit of a gentle reminder but it really rubbed a few of us traveling together the wrong way. It was hard to feel comfortable speaking above a whisper after 11pm or sleeping in a bed where the hosts have left you notes on the pillows letting you know how expensive and delicate the bedding is that you must remove all make up and refrain from wearing lotions, etc. My recommendation would be to ease up on the rules and perchance aim for comfort over style in the decor zone. It would've gone a long way in terms of making us feel welcome!

Thank you for your comments. We are pleased you enjoyed your overall experience at Destination Spa Bed & Breakfast. To clarify points of concern, we would like prospective guests to know that we do our utmost to provide a restful and memorable stay. We ask our guests to kindly respect the other guests, and request a “quiet time” after 11:00 p.m., so that weary travelers or those who need to get an early start can be assured of a restful night. We have spared no expense on furnishing our rooms in an elegant manner. We provide up-scale linens and top-dressings for the pleasure of our guests. Unfortunately, in the past there have been instances where these features have been ruined by oils, makeup, etc. at a substantial cost. It has become necessary to provide a friendly reminder to our guests, as a weary traveler may forget to remove these before bed. For the most part, information in the rooms is a mandatory requirement of Tourism British Columbia’s “Approved Accommodation” quality assurance program, of which we have been members since our inception. Other information is just friendly reminders to ensure a quality stay for all guests.

The strangest B&B we have stayed in. Really nice place but rules, rules, rules! Guests are not allowed to use the front door (must come in through the garage), cannot go outside without wearing their special footwear, when breakfast is over - OUT YOU GO and don't come back until after 5:00 PM! They call you during the evening to ask when you are coming back - we presume so they can go to bed early. Remember when you were a kid and your Mother wouldn't allow you in the living room when it was clean? That is how it is here. A copy of the Innkeeper Act accompanies the rules on the bed so you know what the penalties are for doing anything wrong. Special pillows and comforter covers are for show and not allowed to be used. Kind of like Auschwitz but nice inside with good food.

We strive to provide an enjoyable experience for all guests. We pride ourselves on keeping a safe, immaculate, clean accommodation, for the pleasure and comfort of all guests. Our guests, in other postings, have stated this is appreciated. Guests are greeted at our front door, and then referred to the garage entrance so that their footwear will be indoors and protected from the weather. We ask that outdoor shoes be removed while in the home for cleanliness purposes. Special sanitized footwear is provided for guests when they go outside or onto the view decks. To ensure a clean environment, we kindly request that this footwear be removed and left outside, As this is a residence, and we are home most of the time, there is the odd occasion when we both need to attend a meeting or appointment. This is explained during booking and prior to a guest’s arrival. If the guest is compatible with the fact that we will be away for a period of time, and the home will be closed until we return due to insurance purposes, the booking is made on mutual agreement. We regret that some guests forget they made this arrangement. It is very common for guests to advise us that they will be returning home at a certain time to change and freshen-up before going out for the evening. This is when we give our guests the nightly lock-up procedures, to ensure the safety of other guests. If the guest fails to return as planned, we feel that the necessity of a phone call to them is appropriate to ensure that the guest is safe or not having vehicle difficulty, lost, etc., and to also inquire as to their approximate time of return in the evening, as they would have missed the information regarding lock-up procedures. In this way, we know how late we need to stay up to await their return so that the residence can be locked securely behind them for the security of other guests. We provide special top-dress bedding and decorative pillows on our beds, for the pleasure of our guests. As there has been occasion where guests have used these as bedding and were soiled, we graciously ask they be removed prior sleeping. A copy of the “Innkeepers Act” in all rooms is a mandatory requirement by Tourism B.C.’s “Approved Accommodations” program, of which we pride ourselves as being members. We strive to provide a friendly, relaxed, first-class environment for discerning travelers that expect a safe, clean, and memorable stay.

My wife and I have stayed in many B&B's in North America and Europe. This overnight stay was a bit of a shocker. We arrived a bit early for our booking, and were scolded by the host, Toby, for not following her on-line instructions to find her house (we used google Maps), and told to come back later...not a good first impression. We had pre-payed so were stuck...we came back a the correct time, as instructed, and were told to go through the garage and take our shoes off! We had to drag our bags through the garage, as were not even allowed to place our luggage in the front hall...turns out the stairs, to all the lower level rooms, is right beside the front door. We were given a tour of the property, by Toby, who told us to not touch the walls because they were painted faux brick, and not to touch this and that in other rooms. (The decor is faux Mediterranean) If she had not been so deadly serious, we might have burst out laughing and said, "Really?!" Our room in the lower level was roomy, but with with numerous posted notes with instructions. See photos. I drew the short straw and got to sleep in the INFLATABLE bed. We found our the bathroom we were assigned was, upstairs! The bathroom was well appointed. There were lots of towels etc. The bathroom had rules like: don't splash water on the backsplash! As another recent reviewer noted, Toby doesn't give you any credit for common sense. Maybe the look on our faces suggested we were surprised and she seemed to warm up a bit. Toby tends to hover and is very chatty. We asked when we were to be available for breakfast and were told there is none. We had read some reviews, before booking, where the writers had been served a morning meal (see recent one); so asked why not. She told us she doesn't always cook breakfast; it depends on how she feels. She did let us know later that she would prepare a breakfast for us $16CAD/person plus tax . The coffee was ok, the scrambled egg concoction was terribly salty and the toast cold; terrible value. We left as soon as we could, through the garage to collect our footwear; as we departed, she was soliciting a positive Trip Advisor from me. This was quite the experience.

Wow! I am glad you noticed I run a 5* B&B and not a hostel! Dirty wet boots and muddy wheels on suitcases through my home are not allowed ! I need to mention this as most people like yourselves, would have rathered run your soil through my front door carpet. Need I explain why I asked you to come through the garage only 20 feet away which is protected from the elements? Don't want you to slip from water on my tile floors and have it be my problem. You said you were insulted as you have "common sense"? Why comment? If you were wanting breakfast, why not ask in advance? The website you booked on asks you to! Unlike a restaurant, I do not stock everything every day as I receive many last minute bookings. With my not feeling well, I provided you breakfast anyway! Being you traveled "all over the world", you would know that common courtesy means to ask for something and be grateful when you receive it!
