We were looking forward to spending a couple of days at this hotel but I was very disappointed to find a lineup of 5 groups ahead us lined up outside of the hotel when we arrived to check in. It was 30 degrees outside and we were told it would take 10-15 minutes per couple to check in which meant we stood outside in the heat for 50 minutes. We were told the outside lineup was because of Covid 19 but I’m not sure why the lineup couldn’t be inside in an air conditioned hallway and social distancing still maintained. There was only 1 person working the front desk at 4 in the afternoon when everyone was arriving! There was a second computer at the desk but only 1 employee checking people in. The website said there was an outdoor pool and since we were travelling during Covid 19 I was happy to hear that the outdoor pools in BC had reopened under the advice of the health authorities. When we arrived with children who were hot and hoping for a swim we found out that the pool was not open and was told by the front desk that the pool is actually indoor pool. In fact the pool has an open roof but sides around it. When I told the front desk how upset I was that the website said it is an outdoor pool so we assumed it would be open the front desk was less than interested in offering us anything to make up for the misinformation. I have stayed at hotels before that have a closed gym or pool and have always received a courtesy call ahead of time to let us know of the closure and apologize. Even a small token of apology like a free kid’s dinner or a round of drinks in the hotel restaurant would have smoothed the situation. Instead I was told by the front desk that he would be happy to cancel our reservation if I wanted him to. After spending the day travelling and paying $150 to take a ferry to Vancouver Island! The room was adequate but there wasn’t even enough cups in the room for 4 of us. In the evening the hotel front desk was more cooperative and friendly when we requested extra coffee and cream and some cups for the room. Unfortunately, the next day when we arrived back at the room after a day at the beach ( 5pm) and with kids needing baths, the room had not been cleaned which meant there was also no clean towels! When the cleaning staff came in while we went for dinner they had to leave a note to apologize that they had run out of clean wash cloths. We did enjoy the view and the restaurant and the restaurant staff were very nice when we arrived and the reservation we had made was still written on a piece of paper on the desk rather than being added into their computer and so there was not a table available for us. They did manage to get us seated within 15 minutes so it was not too much of a long wait for our hungry children. I did try to locate the hotel manager’s email address to deal with my complaints directly but it is not listed on the website and when I requested it be sent to me via the reservation email address I did not get a reply back. Beautifully located hotel but lacking in customer service and the efficiency of the staff is underwhelming.

First off we want to thank both management and staff for their very conscientious effort of taking precautions to minimize possible exposure to COVID 19.
Our room on the front had a super comfortable king size bed with lots of pillows. The hotel is set well back from the road and was very quiet. The room was spotless and roomy and the coffee maker was a Nespresso model and the selection of coffees were perfect. Quite a change from the insipid coffee that usually comes in a room most everywhere else!
The restaurant offered up a very good supper and their breakfasts were very good as well. Prices in the restaurant were reasonable.
Unfortunately due to COVID the pool and gym were closed but the beach which stretches for at least 1 km. was only a 4 minute walk away out back of the hotel. Our dog loved that!

The only recommendation we would give to management is to put a small inexpensive microwave oven in the room.

Just returned from a three week vacation, Vancouver Island to Calgary. Most of the hotels we stayed at were high end/ highly rated hotels.
On a tour of the island we spent on night here. This hotel was the least expensive of all the locations but had what we were looking for. It is clearly a renovated version of an older hotel but has most things you might want. Our room had an ocean view, was clean and had a good bed. The bathroom was small and still a bit dated but fine for our one night there. We had dinner and drinks on the patio in at the restaurant and also walked along the beach accessible from the hotel. Hotel staff were courtesy and friendly. We would happily book here again if we were on the island again.

We've been coming here off and on for years and this year decided to make Bayside the focus of our 50th anniversary stay.
Boy, we're we right on the money.
This was everything we expected and more.
They have been constantly upgrading and redecorating so they have maintained the highest standards. Witness the new outdoor pool.
The dining room was outstanding for both breakfast and dinner. Those guys in the kitchen really have it together.
Every staff person has even gracious and accommodating to a person.
It's unreal.
I cannot find one criticism.
Do yourself a favor and book this place but please don't make it so popular that I can't get in next year.

Wonderful experience, from front desk greeting to ocean view room to outdoor spaces to onsite cafe and restaurant. Professional, welcoming, friendly and efficient staff. Room seemed exceptionally clean. I started relaxing the moment I entered my room, looked outside at the waterfront view, and heard the soft instrumental music playing. Likely the most comfortable and nice outdoor balcony chairs ever! Fascinating to sit in or out and watch the tide flow in and out. The cafe turkey sandwich I had one day for lunch was house made, I think even the bread made on site, and was a treat. One evening I had an appetizer of hummus with the best- ever house made pita chips, sipping wine, while seated at a beach view window table in the restaurant. Thankful for such a pleasant lodging environment to come back to after spending the days hiking waterfalls, exploring the area, walking among giant evergreen trees, and more.

Not sure if it's the results of listening to customer suggestions over the years or new ownership - or both, but oh what a wonderful resort this has become from the resort of just a few years ago!

We've stayed at this resort a few times over the years and the location has always justified the price of the stay.

Since our last visit, however, this resort has undergone a complete makeover. It's almost unrecognizable from its past self. The lobby looks amazing now, the restaurant is fantastic. Grounds, which were once rugged and unkempt are now clean, manicured and befitting the million dollar view of the bay. Rooms are wonderful too!

A special mention to the staff who are simply amazing. Cleaning staff seem to be constantly on the go, maintaining the cleanliness of the resort to the highest standards and the reception staff are terrific to deal with. Oh, and if you happen to be traveling with a four-legged family member, rest assured, the folks at Bayside love dogs almost more than people! Dogs are given to the absolute VIP treatment here! Also a shootout to whomever had the brilliant idea to add the beautiful outside pool to the amenities offered at Bayside. We didn't get to use it this time, but you can be certain we will on our next go round - and there WILL be a next go-round as this will remain our go-TO accommodation in the Parksville area! Top marks!

- Divine beach walk in enveloping nature
- 3 out of 4 desk attendants I met understand hospitality (usual average)
- Room, almost spotless but with strong (not bad) odor
- Cute balcony, motel-ish view of parking lot, hotel suites, town
- Bed sheets rough; bed, hard and lumpy
- Breakfast-in-bed (intended treat) drink & food, not served hot and barely lukewarm after inordinate wait for missing S&P — tiny yet consequential detail
- Indoor pool closed; heated outdoor pool, too cold for me
- Some really pleasant staff
- Restaurant (modestly priced) -- food & service, memorable. Hotel's biggest draw along with location.
- Poor value for stay — overpriced, not for the market but for what it is

My sleep -- bare minimum expectation from a hotel -- was rough. Poor bed quality PLUS loud construction clanging from the town side ALL night. When I reported this to desk, I felt my account doubted and dismissed.

Property has an aging-motel feel, wear in areas, juxtaposed with glossy renos in others (and website photos).

I now see that I inadvertently booked the wrong hotel by conflating too many properties as well as review/booking sites. Arrived with unrealistic expectations. Desk attendant handled it well.

Not a bad little place but I need a hotel with more/functioning amenities. It is, as rated, a 3-star hotel, with both amenities and CS follow-up not what I'd expect from a "resort".

Thank you for sharing such detailed feedback about your stay. It sounds like you had some mixed experiences, and we appreciate the honesty. We're glad you enjoyed the restaurant and some of our staff interactions, but we're truly sorry to hear about the challenges you faced, especially with the bed quality and room service. We understand how crucial a good night's sleep is, and your feedback will be reviewed to improve this aspect. Regarding the construction noise and the room concerns, I apologize if your experience at the desk didn’t feel acknowledged as it should have been. That's not the service standard we aim for. Your comments on the property’s feel, amenities, and overall value will also help us as we continue to make improvements. We hope you’ll give us another opportunity to offer a better experience should your travels bring you back.

My first trip since lockdown and it didn’t disappoint! Check in was quick and room was ready even though we were slightly early. The whole resort has undergone a Renovation and is brighter and more pleasing than ever. Room was spotless and though the mattress was not the most comfortable the oceanfront balcony and cozy balcony chairs made up for it. Tv and wifi were amazing! We ate dinners and breakfast in the on site restaurant and the service was incredible. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating with the food being so delicious I hate to complain but the fries were too salty. We never felt rushed. Breakfast opening is at 8:00 and being used to most restaurants having a 7:00 opening we arrived too early but we weren’t the only ones. Honestly I believe the customer service at this resort is the best I have ever had. Will definitely return and strongly suggest the extra money for ocean front.

I have selected this hotel for the oceanfront view to celebrate our 34th Wedding Anniversary, oceanfronts which i loved the most, whenever i travel with my husband, have been my priority, unfortunately when I booked due to misunderstanding with a third party agent assigned me to a standard room to my frustration and paying a less than 300 a night with a high expectation of a beautiful view, doubled my disgust. We requested at the Front Desk if there will be cancellations or early check out but was declined twice reasoning out that their hotel was fully booked.

Fortunately, I am just grateful that two competent and very welcoming staff at the Front Desk, on Day 2, went over and beyond their usual tasks of accommodating our second night with an Oceanfront view despite on a full house.

Kudos to Shannon and Stuart for the effort by making my husband’s Anniversary treat a meaningful one and for granting my request.

The hotel restaurant has wonderful staff too.

Totally grateful!

The hotel itself LOOKS amazing, aesthetically and the rooms are furnished well.

But it's just lipstick on a pig.

The internet is slow.
It's SO loud here. Mid week and all you hear is doors slamming in the hallway, the TV in the room next to you and the dog barking down the hall. Don't you dare open your window or you'll just hear the people outside on the balcony or in the restaurant or the smokers.

Did you notice the hotel parking lot was empty and think you'll check for a water view instead? That'll cost ya $50 extra with a free serving of "how dare you even ask me" from the front desk staff.

I honestly had a better stay across the street at the TL.

Also...what qualifies as a resort nowadays?
Wiki says "The term resort may be used for a hotel property that provides an array of amenities, typically including entertainment and recreational activities"

I saw an indoor pool and an overpriced restaurant.

There's also a steep gravel path that leads to the "beach".
Beach is in quotations above cause this is just a rocky area where transients hang out.
The parking lot is a gravel area where you will ruin the wheels on your suitcase.
But hey, there's an overpriced restaurant attached if you're hungry.

No thanks.
