Nestled in a picturesque setting, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort is celebrated for its tranquil sea views and an array of leisure activities nearby. Accommodations at the resort are known for their cozy charm, with select rooms offering fireplaces and spa-like features. Guests consistently commend the resort for its cleanliness and the professional demeanor of the staff, although some have noted instances of subpar service. While the rooms provide comfort and modernity, critiques have surfaced regarding noise levels and dated aspects. The spa is a highlight, yet opinions are divided on its value, with some deeming the Grotto and other amenities as overpriced.

The resort is in a beautiful, location, views of the sea and a mix of tasteful cottages and buildings 2 or 3 storey. We were in one of the buildings overlooking the Salish Sea and rooms are very comfortable, enjoyed the gas fireplace. They are very thoughtful with not using plastics and recycling (important to us). Also have destination chargers a total of 9. Dinner at Cedars restaurant is lovely and in room coffee very good, plus a small but very important detail, fresh cream in the fridge. They don’t just put out coffee mate which is so unhealthy. Staff are very pleasant and you can walk down to the beach, long ramp sidewalk. Definitely want to return and stay longer. Mary

I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend in this beautiful and cozy little corner of Parksville. The entire atmosphere was so serene and soothing, that all my cares in my life suddenly disappeared. The courtesy and kindness displayed by all the staff enhanced the joy of my stay. A visit to the GROTTO was a wonderful experience that I highly recommend. I hope to visit Tigh-Na-Mara again in the not-too-distant future.

We are Island locals and have stayed in an ocean view room almost yearly for about 30 years in spite of many other Island resorts to choose from. The ambience of Tigh-Na-Mara is unique and never varies, even in bad weather there is a sort of summer camp vibe with guests seeming happy and relaxed. There are very few if any rules posted in the rooms and there is sense that you should just have a nice time and enjoy yourself. Amenities in the ocean view rooms (which are always clean) are plenty and thoughtful with little luxuries (e.g., heated towel rack). Staff are reliably cheerful, resourceful, and willing to go out of their way. In all our stays has there been the occasional problem? Yes, but only once was it not resolved to satisfaction.

The Grotto spa and tapas experience checks all the boxes for a pampering and memorable day particularly with recent extensive upgrades. Like the rooms, there are thoughtful touches throughout for a seamless experience. The well-placed water machine is a first, with choices of water type (e.g., sparkling), flavour (e.g., strawberry papaya), and temperature. The change room is incredible which includes a 10 second bathing suit dryer. The cedar saunas are well set up with towels and outdoor showers. There is a higher fee structure than before this renovation but for us it was well worth it, best spa day ever.

The Treetop tapas menu has undergone an upgrade as well with more contemporary and exact cooking techniques (e.g., sous vide), spa-forward fresh but satisfying selections, and a more refined approach than in days gone by. (And no, Tigh-Na-Mara did not offer a free night for this review 😊)

Definitely not worth the expense. We called ahead of time regarding early check-in to do their “Dine and Dip” at the Grotto. They said they can’t guarantee what time we could check-in but that they’d prioritize cleaning our room. We scheduled the Grotto experience for 4:30pm, thinking a 30 minute early check-in would be a safe assumption. It was not & we ended up being over an hour late for our experience (which is not cheap!). The front desk basically said it is what it is & the hotel’s communication isn’t great so housekeeping probably didn’t even get the memo… If they had been honest about not doing early check-ins, we wouldn’t have wasted our money on an experience that we could only go to half of.

The Grotto experience was nice, albeit a bit rushed with us not being able to get there in time. The mineral pool area had a community pool atmosphere, and is much smaller than it appears in photos. Also, there is a mandatory tip on the Grotto experience (on top of the $95pp). Their saving grace is the restaurant in the Spa (NOT Cedars), which was incredible but expensive. Staff there were lovely and the food was just perfect. Maybe stay elsewhere and just go for the food at the Grotto’s restaurant.

As for accommodation, cabins are also smaller than they appear in photos, VERY warm, & not at all private. We had to keep our blinds closed almost the entire time as otherwise everyone walking by could see in. We did have to open them at night due to the warmth though, leading to a bit of a restless sleep with being able to hear people going by just outside. Our cabin was clean at least.

Also heard multiple other guests complaining of other issues at check-out, including the reservation and the A/C not working.

Had always heard good things about this resort so my girlfriends and I were excited to book a spa weekend. The grounds and beach are gorgeous and the staff were very friendly especially at the spa and Cedars restaurant. The spa itself is amazing and clean but was very busy when we attended with 24 other people in the grotto.
With that being said, I would not go back to this resort simply because it caters to spa guests and family guests as well. All 3 of us were woken up both Saturday and Sunday morning by the two rooms of families next door who were crashing around and whose children cried all weekend. When you’re travelling 20+ hours from off-island and paying over $1000 for a relaxing weekend of 2 nights hotel, the use of the grotto, a massage and one tapas dinner, being woken up at 7am by screaming children is not acceptable.
If you’re looking for a relaxing spa weekend look into booking at Sparkling Hill in the Okanagan where breakfast and the spa pools and sauna are included, there’s no automatic gratuities and you’ll get a good night’s sleep.

Beautify setting right by the water. We went for our anniversary and were given chocolates as a welcome gift. We stayed in the Oceanside studio. It was nice but pricey compared to what you get - small pool/hot tub, no room service unless requested and no special amenities. Would have liked bottle water in the fridge as refilling my water in the bathroom just seemed unappealing.

Spent 3 nights there relaxing after a 2 week trip across Western Canada, so nice to unpack and rest in our lovely ocean view suite. Very cosy room with a wonderfully comfy bed. Lounge and kitchen pleasant and well equipped. The fire effect gas fire was welcoming when the weather wasn’t kind to us, but we snuggled in our wonderful soft warm robes and just watched the ever-changing natural beauty outside our balcony.

We were not informed that the room would not be serviced each day and there was no safe in the room. Also the vending machines were unreliable – tip: if you want a can of coca cola, it’s actually cheaper to buy at the hotel bar than in the machines! Those are the only slight negatives.

We enjoyed the large pool, jacuzzi and sauna which were very quiet. Much is made on the hotel website about the expensive Grotto Spa, but the pool facilities are available to residents as well and are included. There was a small gym and 2 outdoor terraces for sunny days.

We enjoyed dinner at Cedars restaurant which was split between a noisy sports bar and a more quieter area for other diners, so book ahead to get a good table – good choices of food and wine. Staff were helpful in accommodating our friend who is a wheelchair user.

Hotel is made up of multiple log cabins and log-effect low rise blocks = located out of town, so you need a car to get to the nearest restaurant or supermarket.

We've stayed at Tigh Na Mara plenty of times and usually have a wonderful stay. However, this time was different. Arrived to find out there were not one, but THREE weddings the same day. That being said, it was very loud and busy,
and there was almost no parking. We were afraid to leave because we might not get our spot back.
Checked into our room to find that they had neglected to place anything in the room for our anniversary (I had mentioned it on the phone when booking). Last time we came, we were given a nice card, wine and a box of chocolates. This time, not so much.
Anyway, the room was dark and fairly small. We've stayed in the studio room before, but I think the new renovations caused the room to look smaller. There was no jacuzzi tub, but instead a shower with a regular bathtub inside it. The bathroom looked nice, but felt like a downgrade from the larger tub they used to have. However, I was happy to see they now have a nice AC unit added.
Unfortunately, when we went to turn the TV on, nothing worked. It kept searching for a signal. I called the front desk and was told to check the HDMI connection and the cable box. Sure enough, the last guest had unplugged the cords.
The room was fairly clean and the bed was comfortable. However, there were two large cobwebs on both corners directly above the bed and a dead bug in the bathtub.
We opted to call to order food from Cedars for take out, but their phone went directly to "We are unable to take your call" every time. So I found the online ordering system and walked to pick it up. The food was pretty good, just kind of pricey for what it was.
We went down to the beach in front of the resort and it was very nice, except all you could hear was a lot of noise and yelling from the wedding guests up near the gazebo. The noise radiated across the beach.
The room was quiet from about 9pm until 6am, but otherwise, you could hear the other guests crashing around. We were woken up multiple times by the guests above us. When housekeeping showed up to clean the room next to us around 9:30am, we decided to leave. It was LOUD.
This most recently trip left us feeling uncertain if we'd return or not. There were more cons than pros this trip, and didn't feel like the high price point was worth it anymore. Might be trying different accommodations along Resort Drive next visit, sorry.

Responded Jun 16, 2024
Dear Tessa, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent stay at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort & Conference Centre. Your feedback means a lot to us, especially as someone who has been a loyal guest over the years. It deeply saddens us to hear that your most recent experience did not live up to your expectations. Firstly, we want to apologize for any inconvenience caused by the weddings that were taking place during your stay. We understand how important a serene environment is for a relaxing getaway, and we regret that these events impacted your stay. Regarding your room, it seems there was some confusion about the type of accommodation you expected. Our Deluxe Oceanview Studios offer additional amenities like a jetted tub and more space, which may have better suited your needs. We apologize if this distinction was not made clear when you made your reservation. We also regret the oversight in not recognizing your anniversary. Celebrating special occasions with our guests is something we strive to do exceptionally well, and we are sorry we missed the mark this time. The issues you encountered with the TV, room cleanliness, and challenges with ordering from Cedars are certainly not up to our usual standards. Please know that your feedback has been shared with our team so that we can address these issues promptly and ensure they do not recur. We are pleased to hear that the new AC unit provided some comfort during your stay. Your feedback on this is appreciated. Lastly, we apologize for the disturbances caused by noise from other guests and housekeeping. Providing a peaceful environment is important to us, and we regret that this was not your experience. We sincerely hope that you will give us another chance to provide you with the exceptional stay that you have come to expect from Tigh-Na-Mara. Please feel free to reach out to us directly for any future bookings so that we can ensure a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for you. Thank you once again for sharing your feedback with us. Your insights are invaluable as we continue to strive for excellence in guest satisfaction.

We loved the resort as a whole and the cabins look lovely from the outside and are well spaced out with lovely decks to sit on.
But we were disappointed with the standard of accommodation/furnishings and cleanliness for the price we paid in the 1bedroom dog friendly cabin.
We realize dog friendly accommodation is never quite as good as the rest and understand that, but for the price we paid we’ve had a much higher standard elsewhere.
The cabin was very basic and cramped. It was hard to sit around the dining table because there was no space, the bathroom is absolutely tiny, and there is no space around the bed to even open a suitcase without putting it on the bed.
The sofa/futon was very loudly creaky and very uncomfortable (to the point as someone with a bad back I couldn’t sit on it), and although things looked clean at first glance (i.e freshly vacuumed, mopped, clean toilet etc) if you look closer deep cleaning is really needed under and behind things, for example there were piles of saw dusty looking dirt and cobwebs on the cabin walls behind the toilet and very large black ants crawling around.
I also feel like there should be full size glasses, mugs, and soup/cereal bowls instead of teeny tiny almost kid-sized ones which were inconvenient to drink/eat from.
Overall we and our dogs enjoyed our stay because of the location but we probably wouldn’t stay here again because of how basic the accommodation was.

Dear S3521RFmelaniem, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent stay at Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort & Conference Centre. We genuinely appreciate your kind words about our resort's overall ambiance and the well-spaced, lovely decks of our cabins. We're thrilled to hear that you and your dogs enjoyed the location and surrounding environment. We are truly sorry to hear about the aspects of your stay that did not meet your expectations, especially concerning the standard of accommodation, furnishings, and cleanliness in the one-bedroom cottage. We understand how important these elements are to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, and we take your comments seriously. We would like to inform you that we are in the process of making significant improvements. The double futon in the cottages will very soon be replaced with a new sofa bed, which we believe will provide a much more comfortable seating and sleeping option. Additionally, the cabins themselves are scheduled for a complete renovation in the very near future. We also appreciate your feedback regarding the dining space, bathroom size, and the need for thorough deep cleaning. Your observations are invaluable as they highlight specific areas where we can focus our efforts to enhance the guest experience. We will ensure that our housekeeping team is aware of the need for more detailed cleaning, especially in often overlooked areas. Regarding the size of the glassware and bowls, we will review this and consider providing full-sized options to improve the convenience and comfort of our guests. We regret that your stay did not meet your expectations, and we hope you will consider visiting us again in the future to experience the upcoming improvements. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we are committed to providing a higher standard of accommodation and service. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide you with the exceptional stay you deserve.

We stayed three nights in a partial ocean view main floor deluxe suite . View was pretty darn good ! And we even had a great view of northern lights !

Room was comfy as usual ( we have stayed before ) , and place was clean , however there were some weird stains on floor ( I wiped at them with white cloth and nothing came off so it wasn’t dirt )

We went for the Rockfest and enjoyed it very much .

We would have loved to do the endless tapas ( Dip and dine ) but it’s such a colossal rip off now I doubt we will ever go back to spa ( and over 3-4 years we have gone at least 5-6 times ) .
They are crazy if they think the spa pool and outdoor area is worth an extra 95 dollars each ( plus mandatory tip and taxes ) and that’s on top of 95 each for tapas ( plus mandatory tip and taxes ) - o they really think most people have -almost 500 dollars for a dip in that pool and some
Cucumber water ?

The pool is not that big . And unless you really want to sit in a barrel sauna that who visit alone wouldn’t be worth more than 40 bucks .

HOWEVER - you can not take ANY service there now without the MANDATORY 95 dollar fee ( on top of your massage or facial etc ) .

The Spa has gotten greedy - an they may be enjoying being busy now , but wait till
Slow season .

As I don't have a pet, I didn't ask if pets were allowed but it seems that the cabins do allow them. Two others have confirmed that.

Yes. Tigh.na.mara is oceanfront so most accommodations are only steps away and a endless beach for everyone ... including dogs. Accommodations are also pet friendly in certain units ... even a dog wash. Available when you return from your hikes and the beach ... remember to ‘wipe your paws’ to keep the units clean for housekeeping and future guests. Enjoy!

We spent four days in September in one of the spa bungalows and have no complaints whatsoever. It was very quiet and surrounded by trees. Our unit did back unto a road, but it was not that busy and you did not hear the cars. Also there was a lot of trees between the road and cabin. One thing though, because of the trees, the inside was always little dark. The bungalows are suppose to give a rustic feeling by using real wood logs for the walls. We had a king size bed that was very comfortable, The carpeting had a few ripples, but was reasonably clean. The housekeeping each day was excellent and there were an abundant amount of fresh towels each day. Honestly, we had a wonderful experience and would go there again.

I would look into the 2 bedroom spa bungalows. They are the farthest from the main part of the resort, but they are the newest, and being away from the main part of the resort they would be the quietest - plus they are close to the spa.
