A true piece of history from the exterior to the old style lobby. We stayed in the newly renovated Rattenbury Room and it was wonderful. Great view of old architecture across the road - the only downside is that the road was Highway 3A which meant traffic was pretty constant. Fortunately the air conditioning worked well so we could cut... More

This hotel is one of a kind in Nelson. Good atmosphere, clean and beautiful rooms, great food and service. Even got a free upgrade when we checked in, because the person at the desk saw that we hadnt got a aircon in the one room we had booked.

This is great to hear after the last review, Karen! Thanks for saying so. The Rapunzel Room is definitely a gem. If you do come back, I would suggest trying the Barrister's Suite next. It is on the same corner as the Rapunzel Room and we just completed it last month. It has an amazing soaker tub and much larger... More

Great location in Nelson with a friendly staff. Limited on-site parking. There's a pay garage next to the hotel. Cost for an overnight in the pay garage is C$5 (time period for overnight parking ends at 6:00 am). We overnighted our car in the pay garage and moved it to a single open spot on-site just before 6:00 am. Renovated... More

We are sorry to hear that you did not get a good rest. We do try to mention to our guests that we can't always guarantee quiet rooms due to our downtown location and possible bar noise. Our showroom will be featuring more live music which should not be as big of a disturbance to our rooms as electronic shows... More

Just seeing the outside of this hotel does not prepare you for the inside! It is a step into Nelson history. The rich wood, the beautiful carvings, and the layout of this place just awestruck me! We had the Rapuzel suite with corner balcony windows that had views of the river and the town. The pillows were to die for!... More

On a recent trip to Nelson, BC we stayed at The Hume Hotel, an historic gem in the heart of Nelson BC. Despite beautifully modern renovated rooms, the decor of lobby and bar has been pleasingly kept in a style faithful to the age of this grand dame (1898), and the walls are filled with fascinating photos of life in... Thanks for the wonderful detailed review of our establishment and for kindly mentioning the quality of our staff and food. You are certainly right about our parking situation. We do not have enough stalls to satisfy all of our guests when we are busy. Luckily we are next to the City Parkade and metered spots are free from 5pm until... More

We stayed at the Hume last year (2014) and loved our stay - we stayed on the 4th floor then, and loved the room. Quiet, newly renovated and gorgeous. Separate air con units in either side of the room (two beds separated by the bathroom which is a lovely layout) and two TVs - one per bed. We stayed in... More

We are sorry to hear there were a couple of deficiencies with your stay. You were one of the first people to stay in that brand new room so we are still working out a few of the finer details. Thanks for bringing the blackout blinds to our attention. We have now fixed that. I have also advised that the... More

And is old - so what!? If you don't appreciate a bit if history, then yeah, perhaps you may wish to pass. However to my way of viewing things, this hotel has been lovingly restored with excellent quiet modern rooms terrific staff in beautiful downtown Nelson! Also price reasonable - for what you get. Very pleasant stay.

I have been to Nelson several times for work and though I have enjoyed the Lounge at the Hume Hotel with all the rich wood and sense of nostalgia, along with the Spirit Bar downstairs, where we caught two incredible shows on a random weekend in November, I have not stayed there until this passed week. I checked in at... More

We were on the fourth floor and were only told that the elevator wasn't working after we'd paid. They did offer to help with the luggage though. Our room was fine albeit with the bland features that all hotels seem to be aiming for these days. But right outside our door was the ice machine. We should have realized something... More

Old? Definitely. We were built in 1898 which makes us one of the oldest properties in the province. We apologize that the elevator was getting modernized when you were here. It was down for nine weeks but it is back up and running now and she is one smooth ride. It's too bad you didn't simply let us know that... More

The rooms were spotless. The rooms were renovated keeping in mind the historic aspects of the hotel and they were beautiful. The complimentary breakfast was exceptional. The staff members were considerate and helpful and seemed to enjoy their jobs. We will definitely stay again if we are near Nelson.
