We booked our stay at this hotel in Jan/Feb 2011. It appeared to have what we were looking for with a group booking. After our booking it was discovered there was a big bike rally in town that weekend as well. When we got to the hotel we were informed that the continental breakfast that was part of the booking was NOT included d/t the Bike Rally. We did not receive any refund or discount but a 10% off coupon for the restaurant across the street. No one in our group of 24 was impressed with this additional cost. Others in our group received larger rooms at a lesser price - not consistent at all.

All the rooms all had a smell to them. The room was clean, very basic, air conditioner was loud, shower was pitiful with minimal water out put. Asked for a later check out and was told we had till 11 AM to either be out or book another night. Location for the venue activities was excellent - all within walking distance.

Merrit claims to the country music capital of Canada. Stopped here enroute to Whistler using the more scenic route (Route 99). Hotel location was ideal for Merritt historical town centre. No food outlets at the hotel but there was an A&W next door and a 7-11 and a subway across the road. Check in was painless and fast. Had misbooked one of our rooms but they were happy to change.

Rooms were clean and quite spacious although it could have been improved. The air conditioning was a bit noisy and walls were a bit thin. The shower in the bath was a bit of a letdown and the bathroom door couldn't really shut properly. Apart from these relatively minor items, the stay was fine and suited our purpose.

It was a pretty average Inn to stay at. Great for a 1 night stay and move on. Wouldn't recommend longer than 2 days. If you stay here, please ask about the other side of Merritt. We weren't aware of it until we found mcdonalds......then we discovered timmies and a few other good places. There are actual hotels as well on Merritt, not just inns and motels.....

The mattresses were the absolute hardest I have ever slept on, my back and hips ached all night. The pillows were similarly hard and lumpy. I was so desperate I ended up tearing off the pillow case in the night to use as a pillow instead and found the actual pillow was filthy, covered with disgusting yellow sweat stains. The AC was set so high in the wall it couldn't be reached unless you stood on a chair. And since it was probably 30 years old there was no remote for it, all manual dials.
The bathroom was dirty, and the shower switch on the faucet was jammed so I stead of adjusting the temperature and then turning the shower on you just got a blast of cold water the second you turned the tap on.
I would have discussed all of these issues with the front desk, but they are only open from 4PM-7PM.
Overall, one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. For $170/night they could provide at least the bare minimum of comfort and cleanliness.

I seldom write negative reviews but after paying $134 for the room where we stayed, that is my recourse. The linoleum and laminate flooring (there was no carpet in this room) had not been mopped or was mopped with dirty water. Shoe prints all over, Microwave was disgusting. Counters had a film that showed someone had tried to clean, but certainly wasn't effective. 2 of 3 lamps did not work and were very dusty. Bed sheets had lint and hair on them. Bathroom floor had hair on it, and the towels didn't look clean. I had to work hard to get the shower diverter to put water through to the shower, which finally, was disappointing too. The woman who helped us said this was her lowest priced room, but that's not what we saw on all the ads. Check this one off your list.

If you like filthy rooms, and a high price this is the place to stay. Wanted to plug the clock in on the night stand, and would not even put my hand behind that table.
The room smelled musty.
Bathroom had mould all around the baseboard,
Main door did not fit, light coming in around the frame.

3.00 am had to call police to quiet a noisy wedding party. The landlord should have done something about this long before we had to resort to calling.

Never, ever stay here again.

We had to come to Merritt for a weekend for and event. A committee booked for us so we had no choice. Upon arrival we were a bit sketchy. Our room was a double bed and a pullout sofa. The sofabed had a 2" thick mattress. Horrible! The double bed was in a renovated closet. We went to the front desk and the clerk said he 'found' a room for us which seemed odd. We took it and stayed against our better judgement. The room was not clean and had a funny smell. Oh well we thought, its only for teo nights and close to our venue. Later that night an odor came through the adjoining door from the next room. It was the smell of Marijuana. We called to complain but the young fellow at the desk did nothing. All four of us staying in the room were coughing, had headaches and sore throats. There was no way I was putting my feet on the floor so I wore my shoes at all times. The air conditioner barely worked and the window didn't open. The breakfast was some cereal and milk from the desk clerks fridge. That was it! We checked out and found a much nicer place at a lower cost! Sorry Econo Lodge, never again!

We do understand your concern from your stay and appreciate your comments to help us better our hotel and service. However, we would like to clarify a couple of points you have made for future guests. As this guests room was booked on short notice (one week before arrival) during an extremely busy event for our hotel due to vicinity of the venue, availability was limited. While they needed two beds, the closest room available for the required accommodation at the time of booking was a one-bedroom suite with a pull-out sofa bed. Once the guests arrived it was obvious this was far from satisfactory so we made some changes in order to free up a room with 2 double beds to better accommodate their needs as there was 4 guests in total. There was no mention of a lack of cleanliness in the room upon arrival, while there would have been no other alternatives due to availability that weekend, we would have gladly allowed them to seek out another hotel better suited to their liking, as we have no intent in forcing somebody to stay in a room they are not satisfied with, if this was brought to our attention it very easily could have been resolved. The phone call received complaining of the smell of marijuana was approximately between 11pm-midnight. We notified the guest who was the cause of the problem immediately, he was compliant and understood (obviously), and was charged accordingly the following morning, unfortunately, once again due to availability there was not much more that could be done for the guest at that time. In any other circumstance the guest would have been offered an immediate upgrade. In anticipation of a very busy week, we prepared by ensuring all air-conditioners were in good operation by running them for a day to make sure they weren't freezing and were in fact cooling down the rooms, any air conditioners that were a problem were swapped out with new ones. The room this guest stayed in had a window that is fully operation with two safety locks on the window, I am assuming if they did in fact have problems opening the window it was due to the second safety lock being in place. We should point out however to future guests, we do have rooms that are in breezeways, so due to fire code, these windows are not able to open. Our breakfast area is held in our conference room, which is outfitted with it's own full-sized fridge, as there is a door that separates the fridge from the conference room, it may have appeared to be in the manager-suite. However, this conference room and all supplies for breakfast are kept entirely separate from the manager-suite. We do offer a continental breakfast, which consists of cereal, as well as, assorted fruit, coffee, juice, bread and muffins. We are sad to hear this guest had a less then satisfactory stay. However we are proud to have hosted a full-house for several nights that week with no other complaints, as well as a couple of compliments! (Best Econo Lodge one lady had ever stayed at even!) We welcome this guest to try our property again in the near future as we are confident this was simply a one off scenario that would not occur again.

I recently stayed at this hotel for two nights October 16-17, 2015. This is the first time I have ever had to clean a hotel room. We were there for hockey and everyone had to clean their rooms. It was absolutely gross. It was really disappointing as this place has so much potential as it's location is directly across the street from the rink and you couldn't get a better location and if they would do a breakfast as so many places do that would be awesome. Everytime I tried to put in the wifi password, it said it was incorrect. Others were able to get wifi but we determined that some rooms just don't get service. The only bright spot was that the bedding was clean and the bed was well made. I would never recommend for anyone to stay here unless things change!

We stopped in Merritt only because it was half way to where we were going.

We booked into the Econo Lodge because it had two beds and a pull-out sofa and the price seemed okay. Of course, you get what you pay for.

The room had a strange odour but otherwise looked okay. I got to sleep on the pull-out sofa and it wasn't the best but my two companions complained about the very hard bed they slept on. Both said they got backaches.

There was a sign above the sink that said "TO OUR GUESTS Please Leave $5.00 or do your dishes Thank-you."

That really pissed me off. How does Econo Lodge monitor this? What if the person before me is a slob and only rinses their plates, cups, etc? Am I supposed to use a plate with some dried bits of egg? Some folks may consider that clean but I certainly don't. This is just plain bad practice that no hotel/motel should ever encourage. Because what's next? Will we have to clean the toiled bowl or leave $10.00???

The continental breakfast was equally disappointing. It is in a cold, unwelcoming, mini-meeting room. The coffee was as weak as I've ever seen and the yogourt was one day short of 'best before date.'

Not recommended.
