Merritt was the first stop on our Gold Country Geotourism trip. Prior to checking into this RV Park, my sister and I searched for and found a couple of geocaches. Run by the city of Merritt, this RV Park is located near the Coldwater River. Our assigned site had a picnic table and was spacious, grassy as well as shaded by large trees. The grounds were well maintained. Large pots filled with colorful flowers dotted the park. After setting up our unit, we explored the campground. A few tenting areas are located along the fence near the river. Free internet reception was good. We were pleased that it was very quiet in the evening hours and throughout the night. Because our experience was so positive, we stayed at Claybanks on our return trip. We were pleased to be assigned the same quiet spot. During both stays, good covid practices were evidenced by the staff.

Located within walking distance of downtown and the many lakes in the area this makes a wonderful basecamp. The grounds are clean and the sites are mostly generous enough for any size trailer. The roads inside the park are easy to navigate for any size trailer.
Water, power, and sewer all available at most sites. Water pressure is particularly strong so bring a regulator.
We were able to get satellite service quite easily.
We had to move to another site because we extended our stay. The second site wasn't as nice because we backed up to a residential area and unfortunately had more noise to deal with.
Overall, a very good place to stay if in the area.

We arrived at this campsite and were told we could either set our tent on a gravel pad or we could camp in the overflow “a nice large grassy area” according to the reception. We opted for the grassy area and paid for the site. After paying we were informed it was across the road. I drove over there and it was very rocky and had public trails through the campground. We decided that crossing the road to get to the washrooms with a 3 year old and camping in a public, unsecured area wasn’t a good idea so 5 minutes after paying we asked for a refund so we could look elsewhere and we were told no, we couldn’t get our money back.

We camp here every September with an RV group. The campground is located within walking distance of downtown Merritt. There is a walking trail for dogs. Management is very accommodating to our needs. Our meeting and end of the year barbecue are held in the club house. Washrooms are kept very clean. Sites are cleaned up after a unit leaves.

We stayed here on our way both up into the interior and back down Hwy 5 towards the lower mainland. Hosts are very nice and extremely accommodating (we had to alter our reservation date on short notice and they made it work for us). Washrooms are clean, keyed lock access, lot’s of hot water. We had a back in, full service site and our 29 foot motorhome fit in very nicely.

We again stayed at this RV park with our family for the August visitation 2020. This park is maintain to best of their abilities. Very busy with Rv's coming and going all the time. The facilities are clean and maintain to the highest levels. The fees are very affordable. Staff are very friendly and professional. I sure hope they stay on for next season. The only thing I would recommend to the city is to upgrade their wifi. Not a strong system . We will be back again next year !!! Thank you Claybanks. !!.

This Campground is a 55+ only. Kids were not made to feel very welcome and were yelled at for “riding their pedal bikes too fast”, for laughing “too loudly” MUCH BEFORE the specified quiet time. (11pm - 7am)
Avoid this campground.

Being very well traveled, we aired on the side of caution for the long weekend and made reservations at "Jack and Rosemary McNeil's" (as per web page) camp ground 4 days in advance of our stay. We arrived in the morning of our reservation date, were told we were far too early, and minutes later directed to park at our site because there was an oversight and in actuality we were not too early. Our initial interaction was very abrupt, confusing and we had the impression we were imposing. We were recited a plethora of rules and expectations. Rosemary seemed quit flustered with our arrival & very overbearing with regards to assisting us to park, later we learned that the esthetics of the site was her number one priority. Jack paced on the back deck, arms crossed, glaring and had numerous negative verbal outburst towards our family - yelling out where to park, yelling out rules, etc. My last interaction with the owner Jack was extraordinarily prejudice towards our young family, rude and threatening - I elected to warn my family not to approach him as I was feeling very violated and somewhat threatened by his verbal outbursts. The last verbal exchange with the couple was when I rosemary and inquired if it was a preference we didn't book at the site again, before she could answer Jack interrupted proceeded to exchange vulgar words and closed with calling me a "stupid b___h" , Rosemary promptly hustled him inside because he was evidently acting inappropriately. The owners of this site could not convey any clearer that they do welcome families, do not have regard for the comfort of their guests, and clearly are much more preoccupied with the esthetics of the site than the guests they host. The majority of our camping group were first nations, whether this had a bearing on our treatment or note is speculative, but it was extraordinarily obvious we were not welcome. In closing, We promptly left 2 hours before checkout time in order to avoid further confrontations. I would strongly advise exploring other options before resorting to the Claybanks RV Park.
