If you are seeking a place to stay with spectacular mountain views and a little peace and quiet, the Cedar House Restaurant & Chalets is your place. We stayed in the Sunflower Chalet which is a very clean cablin with 2 bedrooms, large kitchen and living room with a great wood burning stove. We stayed during a major heatwave the hot tub turned into a welcomed cool pool. The air conditioning in the cablin was also very welcomed. The in cabin laundry would be perfect for longer stays. A great return visit.
Our three-night stay in the Adventure Cabin at the Cedar House Chalets was the perfect getaway for relaxation and exploration. Despite the frigid temperatures, the cabin was cozy and warm thanks to the wood stove. We had everything we needed to prepare our meals, and used the barbecue on the deck to grill steaks for dinner. The space was well laid out, the loft bed comfortable, with lots of room to spread out and relax. The hot tub struggled to hold its heat in the -25° temperatures, but it was still a treat to watch the stars from the tub on the private deck. The chalets are central to many adventures in Yoho Park, Banff, as well as Radium. Our stay was perfect in every way, and even our late night arrival was handled flawlessly. We can’t wait for our next visit!
Cedar House Chalets are a relaxing quiet getaway. We stayed in the Moiuntain View, it was wonderful, it has everything you need. The Chalets was very clean and spacious. Jannis was very friendly and helpful with booking my stay. There is a lot of options in Chalets sizes, to fit couples, families or groups. We will definitely return to stay again
We spent 3 nights at the Cedar House Restaurant & Chalets to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We stayed in the Adventure Chalet which offered great views from the hot tub and deck as well as the rustic charm inside the cabin. The cabin came with all you need to enjoy your time in the mountains. Highly recommend this place for a few days away.
We stayed at Cedar house to celebrate our anniversary August 16/2020 This property is spectacular The peace and quiet and tranquility was exactly what we were looking for nestled in the trees and the viewpoint with some thing that we sat and enjoyed For a long time Our cabin which was the garden chalet was neat and clean (and sanitized) the kitchen was well stocked We had all the amenities we could ask for including a barbecue and air conditioning (because it was hot) Our only recommendation to anyone who stays in this area is to make sure that you’re prepared for some mosquitoes if you’re out walking the grounds or taking a hike up the back mountain Highly recommend
We feel very mixed writing this review for Cedar House Chalets in Golden. There is much about the place, the cabins and the surrounding area that are wonderful, but sadly our experience was anything but wonderful. We stayed for five nights (we booked for six but left early) at the very end of July in the Adventure Cabin. This cabin is small and great for two people. The bed is a mattress on the floor under a low curved ceiling and up a short ladder, so there is definitely something adventurous about the place. Outside on the deck there is a great barbecue and hot tub (take bug spray and light the mosquito coils provided as the mosquitos are ferocious!). However, very sadly, we didn’t enjoy much of our stay there (and not because of the mosquitos). We chose Cedar House (and paid a premium in comparison with many other options we shortlisted) because we were sold on the promise of a quiet sanctuary marketed on the website. I quote the following: “The Cedar House is geared for peace and relaxation. Please refrain from playing loud music outdoors so it doesn’t interfere with the serenity of other guests. Any loud or disruptive behaviour will result in eviction from the premises without reimbursement of payment.” Unfortunately a peaceful sanctuary it was not. The first two nights were good. Quiet. Calm. The outdoor decking area felt very private despite its proximity to other cabins, and we really were in the romantic honeymoon / anniversary zone we expected having read other reviews prior to our arrival. But on the third night a large party of young people arrived, booking out The Green Lodge (a combined booking of the Sun Suite and The Green Chalet) just a few steps down from our cabin. This combined booking creates accommodation for fourteen people, and this fourteen were clearly on a mission to spend their time at Cedar House partying and drinking - from the moment they arrived to the moment they left. That’s three nights and two fulls days of loud music outside, beer pong, screaming and cheering games, chasing around the grounds, and all running late into the night. It was invasive and completely destroyed the natural beauty of such a wonderful retreat. On the first night we put in ear plugs and tried to sleep, hoping that Cedar House would enforce their own set rules. They didn’t. Day two it was worse. We rang the owner (who doesn’t live on site so we realised she had no idea what was going on). Sadly the owner was ineffective and nothing changed. On day three we spoke to the owner directly. She was defensive and said that the partying group were an AirBNB booking. She asked us what we expected her to do, that she couldn’t just kick them out. In short, she wasn’t remotely assertive or effective managing or dealing with the disruption, which for the record was also affecting those staying in another cabin nearby. In the end she did apologise and issued us a 10% refund on the cost of our stay and we left it at that, put our ear plugs back in and looked forward to our final night when the party would be leaving. How wrong we were. At check-in time the following day another large party arrived, screaming and shouting as they explored The Green Lodge and asking if they could play music outside. We couldn’t face another night of such frustrating disappointment so we packed up and left. Interestingly, on leaving at lunch we spoke to a local in Golden who knew the resort very well. They explained Cedar House has been a resort for for many years and told us that the current owners are new. They made it clear that nothing like this would have been allowed to happen under the previous owners. This suggested to us that the statement on the website about peace and quiet is a historic one and no longer applies. Later on that night we emailed the owner to let her know that we had left early and explain why. We also suggested that they amend their policy on their website to avoid an issue like this happening in the future. They didn’t respond to the email until we sent a follow up message a week later. I think that also says a lot about the new owners and their care for their property and their guests’ experiences. So based on our experience, go to Cedar House if you want to party with your friends. You’ll have an amazing time! It’s awesome. Do not go if you are looking for a quiet mountain retreat or a romantic getaway. We are left with such a bitter feeling after being cheated out of the much needed rest we were sold by Cedar House’s website.…
I can’t say enough amazing things about Cedar house, we stayed in two chalets during our stay the cedar and garden chalets and both are amazing! Christine and all staff are so friendly! Our whole family loved it, even our dog! We will be back!
We have been staying at Cedar House Chalets for about the last 7 years as a big family trip. We rent out 2 chalets and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, cooking our meals looking at the mountains and soaking in the hot tub after snowboarding/sledding. We normally love it there. This year we were sadly disappointed in our stay due to a mouse problem in our chalet (Mountain View Chalet). Upon arrival we noted mouse traps around the chalet and then were surprised when we found a dead mouse in the dresser drawer of our bedroom, while trying to put away our 8-month old baby's clothes. We received an apology from the staff, but had to deal with the mouse and dirty linens (that the mouse was deceased on in the drawer) ourselves. Later that evening and the next day, we continued to find signs of mice in the form of their dropping in our room, in the bathroom and the hallway. This was rather distressing, especially with our baby crawling around on the floor. We noted that the mouse traps throughout the chalet did not have any bait on them to attract the mice. We were shocked to then hear that the staff were well aware of the active mouse problem and they had rented the chalet out to us anyways. We proceeded to see 2 more live mice during our 4 night stay. Staff came to wipe the hallway with Clorox wipes when we asked for the mouse droppings to be cleaned up, however nothing else was done to try manage the problem and staff did not seem phased at all by our concerns of having a baby crawling around where there is mouse droppings. Although not all mice carry disease, Hantavirus and other disease/bacteria can be spread through their droppings. We appreciate that this is the mountains, and a mouse can get inside, but staff confirmed that it has been an ongoing issue in this chalet and we were greatly frustrated by the fact that nothing was done during our stay to help manage the concerns that we had. After many years of excellent, 5-star stays at this and 2 other chalets on site, we are disappointed to say that we most likely will not be back next year.…
For two years our family has stayed at the Cedar House Chalets. We highly recommend staying there. We have stayed in two different chalets each time with our dog. Everything is exceptional. They are also located a short drive from Golden where you can buy your own groceries and cook from scratch. We are definitely returning for our anal stay.
We stayed here end of November 2019. The adventure chalet was exactly that! inside there is a wood burning stove that was fun to keep going, and you definitely need the extra heat in the winter! The private hot tub on the deck was outstanding with mountain views. The upstairs loft bed fit us both comfortably, but tight, and felt like being a kid again climbing the ladder to go to bed. Oh ya, and we got engaged at the view point just steps away from the chalet! We will be back!
