We were disappointed with our stay. Doris the proprietor is nice but this is a tired property that bills itself as a lodge and spa, which is not the case. We stayed in the main building and I would call it a cross between, a motel, B&B and a rooming house, if that is possible. The furnishings are old and they use rugs in the bathroom as a way to minimize cleaning. The lodge and spa is supposed to have a restaurant but Doris was tired the night we were there, and did not feel like cooking. Lights in the main lodge space were turned off so it was not welcoming. Kids toys were left out in public spaces. No key was provided for our room... We ended up paying $312 Canadian for one night. This place needs a huge infusion of money if it wants to come close to the description the owners provided on Trip Advisor.…
We came to golden after 2 days of hard hiking and we got the perfect reward - the most welcoming owner Doris and her family, and a nice, clean, warm wooden cabin, which had 2 bedrooms and one sofa-bed - exactly what we needed. The living room was quite large, the kitchen was equipped and if we needed anything else Doris was glad to help. The town of Golden was great to wander especially on a rainy day. To sum it up - an amazing country-side homey cabin
FYI The hot water heater for the lodge is a wood fired boiler which means there is always smoke!! A TV is supplied but it’s up to the guest to figure out what to watch on it somehow as there is no cable or satellite! The owners mean well but it is what it is!
We were only able to stay with Doris and family for one night in late August on our way to west coast, but I will ALWAYS stay here when in Golden again. Most accommodating folks, and their beautiful lodge. The food was outstanding. Can't wait for another visit.
The Glenogle Mountain Lodge is an absolutely beautiful property, that’s tucked away in the mountains near Golden, BC. We called later in the evening, and our reservation was extremely last second, but Doris accommodated us nonetheless and was extremely polite, kind and helpful to make us feel at home on her beautiful property. The rooms are nice, clean and spacious, and with the king size options it makes it a very comfortable stay. I highly recommend the Glenogle Mountain Lodge to anyone who’s passing through Golden/staying for a longer period of time, or who’s looking for a more interesting and unique option versus that of a traditional motel/hotel (or both!) Thanks again Doris!
If you are looking for a true rustic style mountain getaway, away from being plugged in, from noise and from everyday busy, this is one of the best places we have ever been. The views from the lodge were breathtaking and so peaceful to enjoy morning coffee. The lodge room was very spacious, clean and so quiet. The hosts made everything very comfortable and relaxing and were so kind. The food in the lodge was truly the best we’ve ever had. Made fresh from scratch. We wish we could have stayed longer!
A perfect place away from the noise of the main town. The wonderful smell of the wood burning fires which heat the water and the building, topped off with the crisp mountain air are to die for. We stayed in a pet friendly cabin which was spacious and comfortable. This cabin would benefit from some love and care and maintenance - cobwebs, window sills and doors could use a quick sanding and refinish, and the kitchen counter was well loved, and a few other things needed some attention, but otherwise a very cozy cabin. The grounds are beautiful but the gardens also needed some loving attention. Doris was so gracious and made us feel so welcome that it makes me want to consider staying again.
It might be a little off the road but you will be rewarded. The couple that runs the lodge are warm, friendly and will go the extra mile to accommodate you. This is not a typical hotel. It’s much better. Old world charm and very homey. We arrived after dinner but Doris prepared a special dinner for us. The rate (compared to the others in the area) is exceptional. It was a large clean room- just what we needed. Do yourself a favor and stay here. You will not be disappointed.
My wife and I had a great stay with Doris and her family. The lodge is wonderful. It was the perfect relaxing 4 night stay that we needed. Doris was waiting for us on our arrival and greeted us both with big hugs. We rented one of the cabins on the property, and it was a cute little cabin, perfectly clean with a small kitchenette and patio that we could sit out on. The property is nestled back in a canyon next to a pretty little creek and is remarkably quiet. It very much has a quaint country bed and breakfast feel to it. Doris offers the service of cooking breakfast or dinner for guests, which I strongly recommend. She is originally from Germany and makes a phenomenal schnitzel, but the dinner was even nicer as she and her family sat down next to us and ate too. It was very special and welcoming, making us feel like part of her family. We both had salads with the meal that are largely made from her own garden! We chose the spot because we wanted to do some hiking in Yoho, Banff, and Glacier National Park of Canada. The weather was not cooperative the first day so we spent the day in Golden, which has a neat little downtown with some good food and pretty scenery in the valley. The next day we drove a little less than an hour to get to Emerald Lake, and did the 18km emerald triangle (check out alltrials for info and pictures), which was spectacular. We also took walks around the property. It is near a bear habitat, wolf habitat, and about 45 mins away from radium hot springs. My wife and I travel quite a bit, and places like this are why. Really getting to know nice folks that live in the area, stay at their home, and enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the world within an hour's drive.…
This hotel was extremely expensive and not worth it. The main lodge was covered in dust and grime and the tables were not cleaned between guests. The cabin we stayed in was grimy and outdated. Wifi is spotty. The grounds were unkempt. Left early and was charged more than the agreed upon rate. Awful.
