Detailed Reviews
We had a wonderful stay. The hosts are very friendly, informative and hospitable. They have great rooms, an amazing grounds and the breakfast was delicious. The location is very quiet and you have to drive about 10 minutes to dine. All Covid protocols are in place. Would definitely recommend this property!

This is a tasteful, well designed and comfortable B&B in a central rural location in the Kootenays. The hosts are graceful and urbane. The elegant breakfasts are timely and made from simple fresh ingredients from their large fruit and vegetable garden. My excellent omelet was made from eggs from their own chickens. I especially liked the idea of a thermos of fresh coffee served in the morning in the foyer before breakfast. This is country living at its best.

This wonderful B&B is located in a rural setting - a short distance from downtown Castlegar.
This 1940’s era house has been lovingly enlarged and upgraded by its current owners over the past 28 years. The results are so comfortable and pleasing.
The back yard deserves a walk- about to see their numerous raised beds, fruit trees, grape arbor and hen house - the source for their beautiful breakfasts. [See attached photos]
And if you have time to linger and visit, Gordon and Todd have a wealth to share about the surrounding area. As an American visiting this area for the first time, this just added to the charm of their place.

Beautiful home, room and breakfast...all means nothing if a proprietor can not treat guests with respect. I mistakenly parked in the wrong spot one night and the front door flew open and an owner shouted, "Don't think for one minute you can park your f...ing car there!" Don't ever park in front of a garage door at a private home A---hole. Then slammed the door closed. There is no excuse for this behaviour.

Response from Genelle House, General Manager at Genelle House B&B Guest House
Responded Jan 16, 2023
A recent guest alerted us to this review, who had a chuckle over it. After reading it it certainly had the same effect on us, so much so we were compelled to respond, since as policy we normally don't reply to reviews. The more than embellished veiled profane superlatives imagined in the above guest statements are pure fiction. This was the second day of guests' stay; further the guest was directed on arrival where parking was available and not to park in front of the garage doors because of safety, fire marshal and emergency concerns. However, when politely confronted at the time to move the vehicle the guest ignored the request and continued to walk away. On the second request to move the vehicle to a safe designated parking area, the guest became indignant and was asked not to be a "dumb a*s" and to move the vehicle. Which at that point the guest did finally comply. We had been more than accommodating with the last minute room booking changes due to this guest's spouse and child being unable to travel to attend an event the guest was officiating. We are quite shocked and appalled with this behavior from a guest who purports to be from management of a major hotel chain. At the time we had a full house so above all our primary concern was and is to create a safe, inviting environment and experience for all guests.

Great breakfasts. Jams, syrups, all made by our hosts. Super clean and comfortable. Would stay there again and hopefully will return. Beautiful garden, great place for a stroll in the morning. Quiet location.

Stayed for 1 night en route back to the Island. Gordon and Todd were excellent hosts and cooks. Our breakfast was to die for. Fresh fruit salad and homemade preserves with ingredients from their garden. The rooms are clean, comfortable and all the furniture is beautifully handcrafted by Todd. His attention to detail rivals that of Gordon on his breakfasts. I don't eat eggs and Gordon made me an eggless omelette that was just delicious. The garden is worth an amble round to see all the love and hard work that has gone into it. If you want a 5* B&B with quality service then this is the place for you. Highly recommend.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Genelle House B&B. Our family of four rented the suite and found it to be clean and spacious with comfortable beds. Breakfasts were excellent and our dinner on New Year's Eve was superb! The food was hearty, locally influenced fare served family-style. Happily, Gordon and Todd joined us for dinner. They are generous, entertaining hosts. We felt like we were dining with friends. The home-made preserves are not to be missed - pickled cucumbers and green beans at dinner, specialty syrups and jams at breakfast. Quiet, dark nights... thank you Gordon and Todd

Enjoyed our second stay here as much as the first. Gordon and Todd are so very hospitable and the house is both unique and impeccable. Wonderful breakfast with lovely touches such as homemade preserves, fresh apple juice, and fresh tomato from their garden. They serve my favorite coffee too!

I stayed here recently on my way to AB, and liked it so much I stayed on the return also.
This B & B is truly the gem of Genelle, which is just a few minutes away from Castlegar. The hosts have renovated a grand old house and have built up beautiful gardens, with a great eye for design and detail.
The room was impeccable - clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated with furniture hand-made by one of the hosts. The private washroom was spotless, had all the amenities, and a roomy shower. A comfortable bed and a quiet street meant a great night’s sleep.
And in the morning, I enjoyed coffee while chatting with the hosts, watching them serve up a fantastic gourmet breakfast.
The hosts are very friendly and welcoming, and have created a relaxing and luxurious oasis here. If you’re in the area, this is the place to stay!

I save my 5 star reviews for only the best, and this wonderful place to stay more than qualifies! Dittos to past reviewers in terms of accuracy; nothing I can add there, except perhaps the breakfasts: you won’t be able to get a breakfast like what they serve anywhere in Castlegar, for any price, I venture to say!
