We are seniors who had to travel to help a family member. At Castlegar Sandman, we were welcomed at the front desk and offered an affordable rate in the "Summer" promotion and received a clean and comfortable room. The clerk found us a room within steps of the pool which was scrubbed and inviting. The pool towels were wrapped for individual use in plastic bags to limit contact.

We asked about restaurants and suggestions were provided. Great staff!

The Sandman is the hotel of repute in Castlegar, with a BW spinoff also in town. This hotel is 'old school' for sure- a big interior courtyard with a huge pool and hot tub anchors the residential wings. Great for gatherings and just a soak alike. Clean and inviting. Their in-house restaurant closed a decade ago, which is too bad.

Room was also clean, bed was good, front desk staff very friendly. The so-called continental breakfast was anything but...they had quiches, omelettes and other warm items, in addition to the cereals, yoghourt, juices etc and nice coffee. Rate was around $110 plus taxes with an affinity card, which was more than reasonable.

I truly have trouble reading some of the negative comments. The Sandman is a 3.5 star hotel, and delivers amply in that category.

Overall the experience was good, however the hotel did not feel the cleanest. We had issues with our first room being quite dirty and needed to switch to another, which was indeed properly cleaned; the desk clerk was quite helpful in that regard.

The room chairs are definitely in need of replacement and pillows were really lumpy/uncomfortable.

Otherwise, we did enjoy our stay and managed to get a good rate, which factored in to our overall impression of the hotel!

We had a hotel booked in Golden last Sunday night (Mar 17th) after finding out during a stop for lunch at Sicamous that highway 1 was closed for Avalanche control from Revelstoke to Golden. It was either wait 8 hours or get a ferry to Castlegar. We got the ferry to Castlegar after cancelling the hotel at Golden for free. Sandman saved us as now we needed a room asap. We got a first floor (111) pool facing room that was right behind the pool. Small but it worked for one night and $113 plus tax Stay at Golden next time. We are mad at BC highways as a 4 hour trip turned into a 6 hour trip.

The hotel is easy to locate. Our room was equipped with king size comfortable bed, a bar fridge and micro wave and dishes, exceptionally clean and cool considering it was 37 degrees outside. The pool area is like an oasis. Check in was efficient. We were made aware of the easiest and quickest access to our room from the parking area which offered lots of shade. Special thanks to the Manager Lynn and GM Jane for the last minute accommodation and “ special treats” we found in our room.

The staff are nice the place is a three dressed up as a nine. Whats worse is that you have to give them your email in order to get their wi-fi and agree to them sending you advertising. During the Covid virus they offer less services but, still charge the same rates. Their way of doing their part? This is the final straw in whats been a slow decline to their chain. The new hotels they build are expensive. There are better rooms for less $$ in Castlegar.
Good luck

Thank you RND307 for your comments. I am sorry you did not seem to enjoy your stay. Our wifi does require you to submit your email but you can opt out if any advertising does come through to you. Your email is not distributed to any advertising companies and strictly stays with Sandman. On the positive side I am glad that you found our staff nice these are trying times during this pandemic and we just want to ensure our staff and guests stay safe. If you would like to discuss your stay with me further I would be happy to speak with you I can be contacted directly at the hotel. Stay safe and stay healthy

After a long drive we arrived at the hotel late at night and were greeted by Jasmine as if it was a sunny spring afternoon. So very nice and friendly. We have two big dogs and she gave us a spacious corner room close to the back entrance which made our life so much easier when handling the dogs. Room was spacious and clean, bed super comfortable. We fell into bed and slept all the way through till the next morning. Would have stayed another day or two but we had to continue our tour. Whenever in the area again, we will be back at this Sandman location.

We usually stay in Trail with friends on the way out to Cranbrook BC 2 x a year for therapy appointments in Jaffray and Cranbrook after driving out from Kelowna BC on the Sunday to break up the drive and make it a shorter 2 hr (3 hrs to Jaffray) drive on the Monday morning as it is a 6/7 hour drive out for us. We stay the Sunday/Friday night with them. Due to a few of their neighbors bring scared of Covid May 2020, and one across the street eye view to their house my dad and I stayed in at this Sandman in Castlegar the Sunday night coming out and the Friday night return from Cranbrook as it is our halfway point. He was tired after his last appointment so it was overnight in Castlegar again.
We were given 2 key cards at the front desk to 114 on the Sunday night for $98 ($106) taxes in through my dads Expedia account
Room 114 (2 oversized Double beds) faces the main street going through Castlegar and the parking lot. It was too loud for my dad. We fixed this by closing the blinds. Castlegar is only a 3.5 hour drive for us. This was May 17 and 22 2021

The return trip through Castlegar for $83 the return Friday night we were back on 1st floor and got Room 157 (another 2 double room) which faced the pool/hot tub courtyard this time and had a sliding door going into the pool area. We liked the pool on the way there but on the return it was freezing! And liked we could access our 1st floor poolside hotel room through a sliding door by the 2nd bed in 157. We also liked that 114 was right across the hall from the door going into the pool area.

We want to return as this Sandman was the cheapest in Castlegar on Expedia again but was sold out for our dates this fall when we needed a hotel overnight in Castlegar for our return trip Friday Aug 30. We are staying at the Super 8 in Castlegar as they had rooms available for our return trip through Castlegar.

Rooms are spacious with a nice placement of the microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Front staff are friendly and helpful. Had two issues with my room cards which was a pain and when I walked into my room, I noticed the recycling and garbage cans were full. Not a terrific thing to deal with during COVID. Air conditioner worked great but they need more channels on the TV, not a lot to choose from. The beds are super comfy and pillows are so nice and lots of them on the bed. I normally stay at the Super 8 but would stay at the Sandman again.

Positives: Dogs allowed in rooms, 24-hour check-in, microwave, TV, mini-fridge, free parking and good location.
Negatives: stained bed linens, dirty bathtub, dirty bowls and cutlery, dusty desk. Outside empties were scattered all over the hedges in the parking lot. Cigarette butts outside the doors. Front counter staff were not always very approachable. The continental breakfast was far from stellar. The bread was stale, the yoghurt was over a month past its best before date. Very, very, very loud on the first floor (pool side).
If you want quiet, ask for a room that is not poolside and on the top floor. Check your linens before you get comfortable. We had blood stains and other mysterious stains in our bed!

Hello, there is 1 door to the front desk and 1 door skipping the stairs there’s a ramp aswell and back doors from the parking lot. I just want to let you know that you might have to walk quite a ways to reach your room depending on how far it is.

we do not have a restaurant attached but there are several restaurants in very close walking distance. We do have a premium continental breakfast available in the hotel but cost does apply.
