Chameleon Hotel, located downtown Castlegar. We like to keep it a nice and quiet place for you to enjoy your stay with us. The hotel includes a small European style restaurant with mostly German cuisine, but we also serve French, Italian, Russian and of course North American dishes (see under Chameleon Restaurant on TripAdvisor). The Hotel is not too far away from Rossland’sfamous Red Mountain ski area(about 30-35km) and Nelson’s White Water Mountain ski area( about 50 km). It’s paradise for outdoor lovers here. Beside skiing there is lot more to do ,i.e. rock climbing, white water rafting , mountain bicycling, canoeing ,swimming, hiking , and so much more.

Old hotel, but clean show her age. Rooms are small but reasonably priced. Right on Main Street, Beds are comfy, good service. For reservation go direct not to expadia because you pay about 20 bucks more. I stay there again

Such a disappointment! Shabby hotel needing repair work and re-decorating inside and outside. Restaurant not functioning for 2023. Breakfast was an insult, food passed sell by date by weeks. Fire-escape was blocked off at outside stairs!

My husband, 2 cats, and I were moving from Vancouver to Alberta, and booked a room at the Chameleon. They offered the best price (almost HALF what other hotels were charging), and didn't charge extra for our kitties (which the other hotels did). We arrived after dinner and were welcomed by the very friendly Marina. We were feeling a little out of sorts, move & all, but immediately relaxed in our room - it was very clean and comfortable. Marina opened up the break room for us, and told us to eat, drink, whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted. They were also very accommodating and let us park our vehicle, loaded with our valuables, in their parking spot so that they could hear if anyone tried to mess around with it. We had a great sleep. *It must be noted that we left before sunrise, and Hartmut was kind enough to let us back into the room to grab the forgotten hat & jacket (you need a key to gain entry into the hotel).

I definitely recommend staying here - support the local business because they're really trying to change the face of this hotel, and they definitely deserve the business. Best in Castlegar!

(PS: I am originally from Castlegar so it's awesome to see the Chameleon changing the face of downtown.)

If you are on a budget, your wife wants an upgrade from camping, then consider this place. Parking is excellent but there is no elevator. The service is excellent but this is owned by a hard working couple who may run the front desk, cook in the restaurant and then clean up so you may have to hunt them down. The rooms are large with big windows. The beds are reasonable, shower large with plenty of hot water. This place is ideal for an overnight stop but not a place for a romantic weekend. Subway restaurant across the street.

Did NOT stay due to smell. Owner STOLE visa prepayment.
Did have a meal in the restaurant which was very good. Service in the restaurant was slow, but well worth the wait. The food was really tasty. FOOD - GOOD hotel - BAD

Usually I don't charge for the late cancelation, but this time I had to use my rights to charge just to commpensat the unpleasant experience in dealing with you.

I stayed at the Chameleon Hotel for one night during my recent visit to Castlegar. Harmut and Marina are an amazing host and hostess. I instantly felt welcome and their easy going nature made me feel at home, from our evening visit on the patio to Marina asking what time I would like breakfast and serving fresh, warm, homemade buns. Their hospitality goes beyond anything I have experienced. Definitely staying there for my next visiit.

When we got out of the car in the parking lot my wife said, "This looks like a dump." Appearances are deceptive! Agreed that the hotel is getting on in years but the owners are updating and renovating. We were welcomed very warmly and the owners could not possibly have done more for us. The room was small but squeaky clean with a comfortable bed. The Wi-Fi connection was iffy occasionally and there was no telephone in the room but those are minor matter. The hot buns that Marina provided for breakfast were great! We wanted to extend our stay for another night but, unfortunately, there were no rooms available. If/when we are in the Castlegar area again we will be happy to stay in the Chameleon.
