Easy booking with booking.com, good direct communication with the motel prior to arrival and lovely greeting upon arrival. We were given Room #8, an upstairs queen room at the end of the building closest to the water with ocean view from the side windows. Very pleasant - the bed takes up most of bedroom but that's okay as there is a good size living/dining/kitchenette space as well! And a shared deck with small glass table & 2 chairs. Through the garden there are wooden stairs leading straight on down to a lovely rocky beach with campfire pit and nice water access for a swim. Don't forget your sunscreen though 'cause it's 105 steps back up to get it! The only really negative thing about this motel is that the Island Highway is a stone's throw away and therefore lots of noise from cars whizzing by in both directions. Free wifi, free off street parking, friendly owners, good linens, good towels, pretty garden, good value, ocean views and ocean access - pretty sweet. Located in Oyster Bay about 10km south of Campbell River.

As always with these small motels you are unfortunately subjected to the good will (or lack there-of) of your neighbours especially those that check-in late and believe the entire grounds and every other units' balcony front is there's to exalt in and even peer in through your closed screen door to ask you, a complete stranger, asinine questions. But I won't hold these bozos against the motel...you find them everywhere.

The motel is a bit retro but has some amazing features. It is spotlessly clean. A regular room has a stove, oven, fridge and microwave. There are enough simple dishes to heat up and eat a meal at a cute little wooden tables with two chairs. You can control the thermostat. There is lots of water pressure and hot water. The bed is comfy, the towels are fluffy, the decor is tasteful. You are right on the ocean. If you are looking for opulence you will be disappointed. If you want practical comfort you will love the simplicity.

We picked this hotel because of the price and were impressed with what we got. We booked four of their 8 rooms for a weekend and were shown all the rooms so we could decide which one we wanted. We had an Ocean View room with a separate bedroom and a kitchenette. The room was clean as was the bedding(it all looked new) The family that runs the Motel is very friendly and will do whatever they can to make your stay more enjoyable. We would stay here over the Oyster Bay Resort any day!

My boyfriend and I prefer to pay in cash, as I am a server, I always have plenty of it on me. When I presented my cash to pay for the room it was refused and we were told the room could no longer be held, but that they would for $200 in CASH (which she knew I had because she could see it). We went back in to campbell river to take care of some things, and when we went back to the motel and paid her using a credit card, she then refused to give back my cash until the next day when we checked out, and she had gone through the room. We had to stand there as she went through every inch of that crap room. Im sorry, but I have NEVER before had trouble booking a hotel room with a credit card and then paying in cash. NEVER.

She told us that #8, the room we were staying in was the "nicest room". There were no curtains, only blinds, and you could not open the windows. We woke up to blinding light, in what felt like a furnace. The place was clean enough but the furniture was cheap, and uncomfortable. The bed felt like a bad futon.

I am still angry about my trip and the way we were handled.

The Edgewater Motel was our choice because it was one of the less expensive places in the area. But we would go there again for the fantastic garden view, the nice beach (great for a small campfire) and the very nice & helpful woman from the office. The rooms itself were very clean and well equipped. We got the OceanView room, which was awesome. Definitely a place to go!
Don't stroll along the beach after dark - we met a bear ;-)

There is not a whole lot of low price accommodation along the water in Campbell River, so the price of this motel was what attracted us. The view from the edge of the property is amazing. (Why they built the motel in such a way that you get no view is a bit of a mystery to me) The rooms are clean, and the owner was very nice.

Unfortunately there were a number of little things that were negatives and will keep us from returning. Things like the circuit breaker for the microwave popping every other time you used it, Minimal coffee and tea supplies so we had to go to the office and ask for more, toilet paper ran out and we had to ask for more of that. The bed was not made, and the tub not cleaned between night one and night two of our two night stay. Bedroom so small there was no room for the TV, so we couldn't get in bed and watch it, had to sit on a hard sofa instead.

My son and I decided to see the east side of Vancouver Island, starting in Campbell River and head back to Nanaimo.
We had 8 days and 1 to stay in Campbell River.
we stayed 3 . Just enjoyed the town the people the fishing and the Edgewater motel. Its a 70s style motel which has been kept up very nicely. Operated by a very nice couple who couldn't be more helpful. It has a great hike down to the beach 97 stairs , well worth it. Can hardly wait to go back next year for a week.

Sandy & I originally booked 3 days here via booking.com but then changed our minds and decided to cancel our trip just hours later. Unfortunately, when we tried to cancel we were stung with cancelation fee of $89 which is the cost of each night to stay. The thought of the Edgewater owners taking our money (with tax just over $100) without lifting a finger really got to us. So we decided to stay the one night.

As we had seen from other reviews we got to stay in the room with the best view which is #8. The view IS pretty decent. They also had a freshly mowed backyard where we could relax at a picnic table and enjoy the view.

The bed was very comfy. We had a good sleep. The floors and windows were clean. The kitchenette was well equipped with a microwave, small fridge, stove with an oven and coffee maker.

That was the pros; here are the cons. 1.The B&D coffee maker leaked. For some reason, when the coffee comes out of the bottom to the pot, it tends to drip from three places which ends up making a mess.

2. The toilet would fill after flushing but then constantly run/drip after the tank was full. I was able to fix the running by adjusting the float.

3. The shower was nice and clean except for a few hairs in the tub presumably from the last tenants, but there was black mould around the window. There is also a horribly rusty shower rod mounted just under the window; if you grab onto it while showering you will get a fistful of rust particles. Yuck!

We were not sure what to expect on this place - we were very happy. The value was excellent, the position right on the ocean a super bonus. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room clean and had all we needed to sit on the deck and watch the bald eagles swooping over the water as we sipped on some delicious BC wines. We will stay there next time we need a bed in Campbell River.

We booked this for the price and also because it had a kitchen in the room.

We arrived in the middle of a heat wave on the island and didn't make sure the motel had air conditioning before booking. They don't. We were very hot the first night. We borrowed fans from family we were visiting in the area. We saw another guest retrieve fans from the owners, so there are fans available.

The motel is dated, but we expected that for the price in the area. The owners are updating little things as they can and it was clean. It served our needs well.

Our daughters enjoyed the onsite park, yard, and venturing down the long stairs to the beach. The stairs freaked me out a bit, but my husband went down every night for some peace on the secluded beach before bed.

This is a family-run business and the family is very lovely. I would recommend it if you're looking to stay close to Campbell River or Courtenay/ Comox, but don't want to be directly in town.
