Bugs in shower, bathroom. Poor bedding. Burned coffee of most awful taste at the breakfast station. On top of that - a rude management who refuses to follow BC Privacy regulations which is a big concern for me. Unless its all changed, never again I will be a customer there.
When we phoned the hotel to let them know we were going to do a late check-in, they said "OK". When we arrived at the hotel, they had already cancelled our reservation and charged us a new reservation with a holiday rate!! That's Not OK!
My friend and I stayed at this motel in September 2022. We checked out early, but my friend accidentally locked the rental car keys into the trunk, the button to release/ unlick the trunk did not work, even the tow truck driver only opened up the locked door, but could not open the locked trunk (side note: why do rental car companies give us two key fobs and use a metal nondetachable wire, so that they cannot be separated for both drivers/travelers?) The front desk staff allowed us to use their rest room after check out, use their electrical plugs to charge up our cellphones, in order to call rental car company, tow truck, and finally the locksmith.
THE GOOD: CCQ -- Clean, Comfortable, Quiet. Even the beds surprised me. Despite being firmer than I'm used to, they worked out pretty well. Staff was friendly enough, parking OK. THE BAD: Positively TINY rooms! As for the bathroom, well... I've been in bigger aircraft lavatories. In no way is this place ADA-compliant (no elevator, narrow halls, narrow doors). As for their alleged "continental breakfast," the facts were not a good match for the description in the property's guest guide (see photos below). There were no donuts or muffins... Just some half-used loaves of store-bought bread, a bunch of granola bars from Costco (which are, largely, little more than refined sugar), something which wanted to be coffee (and more closely resembled burned hydraulic fluid), and a jug of room-temperature orange juice. THE BOTTOM LINE: If you need a place to stay in an emergency, and nothing better's available, you'll probably do OK with this place. Outside of that, look elsewhere. Even if you end up paying more, look elsewhere!…
Staff very helped get out stuff to the room, very clean room, good location. Room was very small with only a double bed. Biggest problem was that the parking lot beneath our room was a meeting place for airport taxis so there was a minimum of 10 drivers having a get together in a very raucous manner & the management knew about because I saw a screen full of security cameras covering the outside of the building.
Happy Day Hotel needs to be closed. It is unsafe, and likely can’t be renovated. Room 310 has live wiring exposed. The floors are filthy. Paint is needed everywhere, but wouldn’t make much difference. This place needs to be condemned, and Burnaby should be ashamed to allow this place to remain open. The “kitchenette” room cost $40 extra and was frightening.
I will not be dealing with them again. I have had to contact them several times and still do not have a satisfactory answer. I should have read all the reviews which are not complimentary. Booking.com cannot find reservation and I have not received any paperwork.
Literally, of all the places I've been the worst place I've ever stayed in my entire life. Please do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else. You'll thank me, this place is a disaster, Dope smell filtering through the air con. No actual breakfast area. Everything was broken and run down.
If you like hot showers, this is the place to go .Water is set so hot, it will scald you if you don't turn cold on first. There were dirty handprints on the walls of our room,. carpet throughout the motel is stained beyond belief. Black curly hairs all over the tub and shower walls on checking in. Toilet ran all night. Tub faucet leaked. free breakfast consists of a standing only area with cheap baked sweets, coffee, orange juice if you get there first, and oatmeal ( no milk). No microwave, as advertised. Old stove that could only power one element or the oven at a time. Handle was broken off the oven door, so you risked burning your fingers to open it when cooking. Wiped the front of the oven down when we first went in. Watched go from cream to kind of white. It was that dirty. Bed is as hard as a rock. Staff allowed children to scream and run up and down the halls until 10 pm. first staff member when we got there was polite..but we never saw him again, and the 2 ladies working the front desk after that were far from friendly. Old heater, dial is very difficult to turn and set. TV has an extremely loud program that yells " power on. power off," and channel changes. They charge $25.00 for leaving dirty dishes , fridge, stove...but I had to clean under the rings on the stove before we could use it. And i'm far from a neat freak. All in all, a very dingy, run down place…
The room size is pretty standard. The disappointing part is the beddings. Beddings were not washed , found nail clippings under the sheets. It was disgusting! The bathroom is clean, though. But I wouldn’t use this hotel again for sure.
