We visited Fern Resort on a company get together in November 2022. We loved it and would highly recommend any other companies wanted to do the same. The staff were a delight to work with. We hope to visit again one day!

At first when my wife told me she wanted to book a vacation here with some friends I was not sold. But I got a surprise when we arrived. It was actually better then I expected. Kids had a great time with there friends and enjoyed all the facilities over the Labour Day weekend. I even had a round of golf with some friends. Only thing that I might suggest is working on getting orders correct and speeding up meal service in the dining room a bit as it was slower then expected. We normally arrived right at open and it would take 45min to an hr to get all our food out and some meals were missed and had to be reordered. Aside from that we had not complaints. We were in a cottage by the main pool area and it was great. The view across the lake from the back deck was amazing.

Absolutely one of the best family holidays we have taken. The children were entertained for hours on end, made lots of new friends, and there was plenty for adults to do too (axe throwing, anyone?!). The food offered was a good range to cater for all tastes, with the breakfasts and lunchtime poolside BBQ the highlights. My only criticism here is that the kids' menu (always a challenge) was the same every day, but I realised that if you wanted to ask for something else (e.g. Pasta and cheese), you should just ask and they will try to accommodate you. Also, adult dinners could do with a few more veggies on the side, although, again, I probably could have asked for more! The facilities offer a wide range of activities which you can either do at organised times, or to fit in with your own timings. We did the fishing trip as a paid for extra and my son loved it. Don't expect luxury accommodation as you'll hardly be in your room, but sitting on the deck with a lakeside view of the sunset or by the firepit is priceless. The rooms are cleaned every day though, even if they could use a spot of updating. A small fridge is provided to keep drinks cold or snacks etc. This resort is not all inclusive in the common understanding of the word - alcoholic and specialty drinks are not included, and be prepared to bring cash for tips which can add a bit to your bill. The staff earn every penny though, but it was not something we had planned for. Evening entertainment is not something we had accounted for either, but there is something on every night to cater for most tastes Most of the guests are returning visitors and it's not a surprise why.

We returned to Fern after a great trip in 2020 for a special family event with 11 people. To us, first impressions are important and Thursday was our first night. That meal was an unmitigated disaster. The salads arrived with old slimy lettuce and chunks of core. Then my daughter's chicken fingers were beyond dry and completely inedible. Her fruit cup was also so old that the melon was also over-ripe, slimy and gone off. These issues are not just about preference but food safety. We were shocked that this was the first food brought to the table and these quality issues should have been caught before the food left the kitchen. Most of our table ordered steaks for dinner. Unfortunately, they were either burned on the outside and barely cooked or so overdone that they were inedible. They also had no flavour and were like shoe leather. The folks that ordered the asian chicken fared slightly better but it was also very dry and together with the rice needed a sauce of some sort so it wasn't all so dry. Finally, my father, the one hosting all of us on the trip, ordered dessert and found steel wool in it. This was a terrible end to an already challenging meal. We spoke to the Manager on duty and he said he would speak with the kitchen but didn't seem to register the gravity of what was happening. I let the Owner of the resort know about these specific issues and never heard back. This was surprising because we previously had raved about our experience in 2020 and recommended our whole family spend a special birthday weekend together at Fern. As the one who made the recommendation I was embarrassed and had to apologize to everyone for the meal. I assured them this had not been our experience in 2020 and really did feel that the kitchen let you down. I am sorry that things didn't improve much over our stay although after the owners arrived on Friday things did improve marginally. There were still consistency and flavour issues with dinner mainly. For the most part, breakfast was a little better (especially the eggs florentine) but the pancakes were dry and the french toast barely had any egg at all. The best meal we had was actually at the grill outside. The hamburgers were great and the chicken in a wrap with the choice of toppings was a hit. I wish that I had gotten a response from management and hate to write this review but feel proper should know how things were for us before booking.

I must commend Fern Resort on their handling of our extremely large family reunion this holiday weekend … we were 105! I did not see other rooms, but ours was neat and clean and did not seem run down at all, although the blanket had seen better days. Overall, the grounds are quaint, picturesque and well cared for with lots of activities. The pools were clean and well supervised. I loved the special touch of the campfires lit at night with smore kits and extra wood on hand. The entertainment building Mary Loo’s is beautifully decorated with snack and drink bars, games and a theatre. Matt, the activity manager, was super helpful and friendly. I was impressed by how quickly our group was served in the dining room. The food was hot and plentiful, and quite good enough …. we were not there for a 5 star restaurant. The roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dish was excellent (the cooked pear dessert “poire belle Hélène” needs lots of attention though). Best of all was the wait staff (including the robots), who were exceptionally accommodating, patient and friendly with our family huddles. From reading some of the other reviews, I think that improvements have been made in certain areas and eventually the resort will catch up by the time we return three years hence…if they will have us!

Staff were very accommodating, incredibly professional and friendly. Location is beautiful. Food in the restaurant met the needs of a variety of eaters, and the restaurant staff were flexible with last minute birthday or meal substitution requests. Housekeeping and front desk staff were very helpful.

Tired, dated resort with mediocre food, but good staff. We stayed over the may long weekend. As other reviewers have mentioned the resort is very dated. All public areas and the rooms need to be brought into the 21st century. The food is ok, but not great. Don’t expect Toronto restaurant quality food. We travelled with our daughter who is in a wheelchair and stayed in an accessible room with a roll in shower (I believe they only have one of these). This worked out fabulously for us. Meal times are odd - breakfast just until 9.30 (this is a vacation- until 10 would have been better), lunch at noon (we would have preferred the option of a later lunch time) with dinner at 6. Meals took a long time to come and perhaps it would be better if they staggered the guests meal times more so the kitchen could cope better.

In March of 2022 we spent three days at Fern. Our room was very comfortable with a lake view and a fireplace. Meals were good with several choices of mains. We booked an hour in the indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Wish we could have had longer but due to Covid restrictions that was all we could book. Management placed adults in a separate dining room from those with children and we appreciated the quiet atmosphere as the families were a bit noisy. Staff were most pleasant and helpful. Loved having Irish coffee by the fireplace in the cosy lobby after dinner.

We attended a bridge workshop. The resort did a great job. The facilities seem all new and modern and the food was excellent. It does have the feel of Ontario cottage country which we found charming. Probably wouldn't go in the summer because of the children.

The resort is old and needs some updating; however, the food was very disappointing. Most of it had no flavour, particularly the soup. And no butter on the toast? Definitely not a four star resort. Food was often cold. Huge mix up in bills - so if we weren't on top of the expenses, would have ended up paying a lot more. Very expensive - particularly for this time of year. Very disappointing.
