Do not believe anything they they claim in their website. The place is tired, musty and in desperate need of some upkeep. Their hot tub is out of service and apparently has been for sometime yet it remains advertised as an amenity. Their so called onsite pub is closed and has been for sometime. Their claim of welcoming appetizers every Friday night doesn't exist and hasn't for sometime according to the woman on the front desk. In fact when we asked about it she had no idea what we were talking about. In our so called upgraded suite the fireplace was ridiculously hard to start and even the person who came up to help get it started commented it shouldn't be that hard. My wife refused to shower in our unit because of mold in the shower stall and an employee commented she didn't blame her. When I confronted the manager (Maria Jose Diaz Gomez) about our concerns she gave lame excuses about how hard it was to find good help, and that they didn't control what their website said because people in India maintained it. I was flabbergasted by her actually saying this. She did give us a discount on our room and promised a free stay at a future date if we'd try them again. Just another lie. Look elsewhere when looking for a place to stay in Orillia. They should be ashamed at the Stone Gate Inn of the lies they tell travelers online.

We have spent years going to this hotel, it was always so clean, classy and helpful. Things are not like that anymore. We were greeted by a young girl that had absolutely no people skills, hardly spoke and never smiled! We checked in with no problem, went up to our room and the door was propped open, we peaked inside and bed was made so figured the maid forgot to close the door. We closed the door and proceeded to unpack some food and drinks into our kitchenette, OMG is all I can say the fridge looked like it had not been cleaned in months, sink was full of dirty dishes and cupboards were empty! We called the front desk from our room to express our disbelief and no answer! (They never answer their phones) Long story short the overworked maids were called away by the manager to do something else and didn't finish cleaning the room. Huge SHOUT OUT TO NORMA whom came quickly to the room apologizing for the mess, she was great as well as a blonde lady from the front desk that came to apologies for her co-workers attitude. There was not one thing about staying that was good. We had two hand towels and one bath towel for three people, there was black mold on the mattress of the pullout sofa, breakfast is served to you on a small side plate of cold eggs, cold frozen hash browns and two balls not even sure what they were but could not bite into them! I am extremely saddened they have taken over this property to just let it go

Things missing in the hotel since new owners takeover a few years back. Ice bucket, Ice cube trays, plates and matching coffee cups, clock radio in bedroom, door that opens to let fresh air in. Door is there but will not open, flower boxes on balcony. Bar in lounge not stocked anylonger, no booze available. No hor'derves on Friday nights. Floors in kitchen not cleaned, stick to floor, glass windows in room covered in dirt smeers, desk have sticky finger prints, hair floating in jacuzzi. This room was not cleaned or disinfected dispite covid regulations. Had waffle maker and batter in breakfast room but now only eggo waffles to toast. No bagels or danish either. Since the hotel takeover there are no staff from Stonegate any longer, cleaning staff does not speak english, only spanish and if you complain to manager she does nothing but say I will take care of it, then does nothing. Swimming pool was 67F. 2 days later, same temp. even after complaining. Its one thing to try and save money as a hotel owner but don't call yourself a luxury hotel when you basically rate a #2 rating. If no improvement over the next few years this hotel will either go bankrupt or turn into a no tell motel. Lounge used to be full on FRIDAY nights from 5-8pm with guest eating and drinking. No drunks or problems just guests enjoying the hor'derves and drinking and making the hotel money.

I think this hotel was once a more classy place to stay. It is tired and not well maintained now. Our room had a small fridge and microwave which we wanted since we were staying 4 nights. However the fridge freezer had such a huge ice buildup that the door was open and we couldn't fit anything into the freezer until we let it defrost for 12 hours and removed the ice. There were various things left under the beds. A picture over one of the beds was missing. I had to rehook the curtains so they hung properly. The pool is small and kept at 21 degrees - very chilly. The gym was in a dark hole that looked like it was never used. The 'restaurant' did not serve meals - it was basically a bar, I assume. I was there with my granddaughter who was going to a summer horseback riding day camp so the location was good and the beds were comfy. It just wasn't luxurious. The staff were pleasant. The continental breakfast was decent. Make sure you notice the sign on the door saying that eggs and sausage are served in a different room. The first day I was there the muffins were small hard lumps but they improved the next day.

This property was very clean and close to downtown and surrounding areas we wanted to visit. The staff were all very courteous. There are some surprising updates to the property that is not up on the website. Will definitely return. Thanks

Tried to book a second stay at the hotel. Called in February to book for august. Did not receive any confirmation from the desk clerk. I called continuously for months trying to get the reservation confirmed. Never received a call back after leaving several messages, Emails via their website. Even Expedia could not contact them after I had to rebook at a different hotel. Get a call at 11:00 pm on check in date from the hotel. Finally. They called. To tell me they are charging me for a stay that I never received confirmation from and still no call back after calling them on July 11th to cancel the booking if it was even booked!? No call back after 3 calls.. no problem calling me to tell me they are charging my card. Cannot answer a call about the confirmation or the cancellation… Good luck reaching the front desk. Manager Maria no help. Told me they don’t check their emails sent through their business web site 🙄. Asked me to send proof of calls. Sent. Nothing back from them.. shocker.

I try not to leave poor reviews for businesses that are working hard to provide a service, but there were too many issues to ignore. We were staying in the area for one night only. Upon arrival the couple ahead of me was dealing with a complaint about non-working A/C. While waiting I noticed that the lounge/restaurant (clearly discussed on the website) was not open. I also noticed a number of hand written "notices" about lost room keys and breakfast trays... not exactly customer friendly. Upon receiving our room I discovered that none of the trash bins had been empty, and the one under the sink was over-flowing. We also could not find a remote for the TV. When I went downstairs to discuss there was a couple with kids asking about using the pool... they were refused as the pool is still on a "reserve a time" plan. The girl at the desk was very friendly, and the garbage was removed, but upon returning to the hotel from dinner I had to ask a second time for a remote for the television. Also, while late check out is not anything I should expect, I did enquire if we could have a couple of extra hours the next day to help with our schedule. The friendly girl told me it should be fine and I should check back in the morning. In the morning the girl at the desk told me absolutely not because a wedding was coming (which is interesting considering another review on here). She did not even ask which room I was inquiring about, just brushed it right off. I prefer to give my support to independent businesses, but this isn't a place I would stay again, and I definitely can't recommend it.

Thought I would treat myself because this hotel used to be awesome years ago, wondered why there were only five cars there when I checked in! It is really beat up, A/C did not work, sink plugged, one bath towel had huge obvious stain on it, no-name coffee pods for Keurig, etc. Bath tub was not cleaned to normal hotel standards. Hassle to change rooms the next day, manager forgot to look after that so I sat in my room and waited. BTW when you call their reservation line it is a third part company that charges you $20 extra to make the reservation! Breakfast was bread and some eggo waffles on a tray with plastic wrap on top!

This hotel was terrible. The AC did not work, nor did the WIFI, and the TV in the bedroom had a black stripe through it so we could not watch it. They ran out of coffee and there was dirty bedding, towels and laundry left in the hallway all night. We told the front desk about these issues and nothing was done. False advertising, as the lounge advertised was not even open. The breakfast was absolutely horrid. The only saving grace was that the bed was comfortable.

I got a call from Stone Gate this morning, telling me my room for THIS weekend was cancelled due to A/C not working in my room. Then the story changed to they were overbooked, due to a wedding. I would be very careful booking here if they are so careless to overbook and then call at 7am 3 days before my booking to let me know. We are going to Orillia for a concert this weekend, and there's likely very few hotels to choose from left since it's Ringo Starr! We were looking forward to going back to Stone Gate, but will certainly not go in future. Aside from the cancellation, the lie about the A/C was adding insult to injury, because I said it's fine, we're ok with no A/C but they said sorry we have to cancel anyway. Irresponsible and frustrating.
