Rock Island Lodge is located on the shores of Lake Superior at the mouth of the Michipicoten River near Wawa, Ontario. We have 4 guest rooms, each with en suite bath. All of our rooms are no farther than 50m to the water's edge. We operate bed and breakfast-style with additional meals available. Situated between Lake Superior Provincial Park and Pukaskwa National Park, our location is ideal for those of you who like to get outside and explore.
100% recommendation for Rock Island Lodge & Northern Superior Adventures! All the way from the amazing kitchen staff, to our guides: Wesley, Shayna and Lorelie. I did the weekend getaway, We kayaked from Rock Island Lodge and went up Lake Superior for about 3 hours. Along the way, we had a fantastic and yummy lunch at the light house! A must see along the way! After some more time on the water, we arrived at our camp for some beach camping overnight. I loved every minute of this trip; from being on the water, having great guides, meeting new & friendly people, the scenery and home cooked meals :) I started my trip in Burlington, just outside of Toronto. I drove up solo to Wawa and was once again stunned by the beauty of the North! I can't wait to drive up again next summer! Our guides were fantastic and very well prepared for the entire adventure, from providing dinner and breakfast and knowing where all the little gem spots were along the way while paddling. I can not recommend this get a way experience enough! I can say that I will continue to book with Rock Island Lodge & Northern Superior Adventures every summer from now on! Thanks for an amazing adventure and sharing your passion of the outdoors!…

We had reached out to the Lodge after our expected wedding venue had fallen through. Even before deciding to work with Rock Island Lodge for our event, David spent so much time with us over the phone and through email to send his recommendations. His willingness to share his time and his expertise in the area and the local amenities was above and beyond. Without his help, our dream wedding would never have come to fruition. The location is an experience unlike any other. Lake Superior, in our opinion, is one of the most beautiful places in the Country and Rock Island Lodge is the place to enjoy it. We had rented the Voyageur canoe for the day and our guide was a lot of fun and a joy to be around. We can't wait to go back!

We had an amazing stay and experience at Rock Island Lodge!!! The landscape is unbeatable as you have beach access to both Lake Superior and the Michipicoten river. Fire pits every night and a clean quiet room to go back to. We had the most amazing guide for our kayaking adventure. Callie was able to assess our groups skill set and take us on a perfect day adventure. The food was great, accommodating a vegetarian diet. I would highly recommend this place to stay, enjoy and explore the beauty of a Northern Ontario. Can't wait to go back!

We thoroughly enjoyed the Lodge, the area and the hospitality. It was such a wonderful find in beautiful northern Ontario. We arrived later in the evening and our Geoderm tent was ready for us as well as a bonfire. The next morning we went on a scenic canoe ride down the river. We would love to return post Covid when more of it is open but we still enjoyed what we had.

When we first arrived, we were greeted by staff who gave us a full tour of the property. The scenery is stunning and the lodge itself is built into the rock on the shore of Lake Superior. We went for Wilderness First Aid and were provided with delicious meals throughout the course. David (owner) shared some stories with our group about Lake Superior and Michipicoten Island. It is a beautiful location at the mouth of the Michipicoten River. Staff are friendly, helpful and make you feel like you are at home. We cannot wait to go back.

The setting is gorgeous! The lodge is very comfortable. The food is basic, but good. A really lovely pot of tea in the morning, and very good oatmeal. Reading lamps on both sides of the bed would be an excellent addition.

Booked for Monday,Thanksgiving weekend as told they were full in September. Had to book for 2 nights. Reserved 2 lunches for 2 days. Owner asked if we wanted kayak rental and when we went to book, told they were stored for winter. No lunch, no kayak, no dinner. Mice in room.

I was very surprised with the overall experience at the lodge. Will be brief. Stayed 4 nights. Waste basket not emptied. Towels not replaced. No soap for shower other than shampoo. Bathroom sink extremely slow to empty. Faucet difficult to pull out. No place to hang your clothes. We spent $27.50 plus tax for dinner for one night. Was told chicken would be served. Well if you call 3 pieces of slivered chicken in a tasteless sauce chicken then I need to go back to school. No water or beverage was offered. Then for an encore we were asked to empty our own food left overs into a bowl ourselves. If this was a commune I wouldn't mind but no where on the web site or when we checked in we were told of the unusual procedures for the guests. Other guest quietly complained amongst themselves. This is not a low end/cheap lodge. I will not go back and definitely do not recommend this place.…

This small lodge offers the only accommodation on the water between the Sault and Wawa. The weather was marginal so we were not able to enjoy the kayaking and canoeing offered by the lodge but we did throughly enjoy sitting by the wood fireplace in the main room looking over the water. There is Also a beautiful deck and fire pit overlooking Lake Superior and it’s a pretty magical place. They have done a great job during the pandemic and we felt very safe. For a 5 star rating they need to improve their towels - sounds silly but it costs nothing to have a decent quality towel for your guests. Other than that it is charming, lovely and we would definitely return. It’s perfectly located next to Lake Superior National Park with amazing hiking.

Awesome stay. Beautiful place/property on Superior with amazing 270 degree views. Very comfortable and fantastic hosts. Will be back again to canoe/kayak next time (was pretty cold and wet when we were here - we chickened out!)!!
